This research study was mainly focus on performing dynamic cone penetration tests according to ASTM D691 - 03 with various relative density on different gradation (poorly graded and well graded) of sand. Sand samples were collected from different region of Gujarat viz. Khanpur, Sevaliya, Ahmedabad. Well graded sand samples were prepared by mixing in different proportions of sand samples collected from above locations. Dynamic cone penetration tests were carried out in Plexiglas tank (60 cm × 60 cm × 75 cm) on three different poorly graded and three different well graded sand at different relative density of 30, 50, 65, 75 %. Relative density of sand samples was determined according to IS: 2720 (Part 14) – 1983. Dry sand has been filled in tank up to 70 cm height of tank. Tamping was done with rammer (30 cm × 30 cm × 1 cm) of 9.5 kg weight to achieve desired density. Desired depth of penetration is 60 cm. Dynamic cone penetration tests were performed according to ASTM D6951-03.

Relative density is an indicator of compaction level of any granular or cohesionless soil. Sand is preferred for filling work due to its less affinity towards pore moisture content as compared to cohesive soils. It is very difficult to obtain homogeneous sands practically during various earth work operations or other construction practices, resulting in heterogeneous properties in used samples collected from various sources. There are many studies on numerous sand properties but there aren't many studies relating relative density and fineness modulus of sand. The aim of this research is to carry out an experimental study regarding the relation between the density and fineness modulus of sand and to establish empirical relation between them.

The present paper is an investigation of the soil parameters of the given Aalborg University Sand No. 1 using the Flat Dilatometer Test (DMT) and the Cone Penetration Test (CPT). This clean sand type is considered to be similar to the sands found in the North Sea area. The research is mainly based on experimental laboratory testing, followed by computer assisted data interpretation. The mentioned tools are used in testing the sand properties in shallow depth and examining any occurrence of an effect induced by the limited size of the laboratory set-up.

Numerical modelling of the NGI-DSS test and cyclic threshold shear strain for degradation in sand2017 •
Sand is an important raw material in construction industry. It is the major fine aggregate. There is scarcity of natural sand in large scale because of increased sand mining in river beds leading to lack of natural sand reserves, urban expansion, local legislations and environmental constraints. The industry must find alternatives to meet the growing demand for fine aggregates. So an alternative of this, manufactured sand is produced by the companies to meet the demands. The natural river sand is the product of sedimentation and this river sand contains more impurities than manufactured sand. So river sand sometimes cannot be used for important concreting works. So suitability of manufactured sand is tested. Therefore suitability of manufactured sand is checked by conducting the tests related to physical properties of fine aggregates like 'fineness, bulk density and specific gravity. And tests on fresh concrete using manufactured are also tested. The results of the tests are compared with natural sand. This paper puts forward the suitability of manufactured sand to fulfill the unavailability of natural sand. Therefore manufactured sand can be used as an alternative for natural sand which maintains the eco balance.

Comparative Analysis of Natural and Crushed Sand2019 •
As the world is facing environmental crisis from last some years due to construction, so we have to find the alternative for the alternatives for cement, sand, aggregates. In concrete, Constant and abundant use of natural sand has already made it exclusive and expensive in our country. We casted Cubes of M20 grade, M30 Grade and M40 Grade respectively and test them for 7, 14 and 28 days of curing. On the basis of this collected data we will conclude whether crushed sand is suitable for 100% replacement of natural sand.

1,2Lecturer, Civil Engineering Department, Sunyani Technical University, Sunyani, Ghana 3Consultant, Mentors Ghana International, Tamale, Ghana ---------------------------------------------------------------------***---------------------------------------------------------------------------Abstract The satisfactory performance of road pavements built with lateritic gravel largely depends on the compaction quality assurance and control measures undertaken during the construction phase. The sand replacement method is a destructive in-situ test that has been widely used as a compaction verification method in the field. However, this method is time consuming, tedious and tends to weaken the pavement layers if not properly executed. The dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) is on the other hand, a simple portable device that provides a rapid, easy to operate, easy to understand and a non-destructive method for determining the strength parameters and profile of pavement layers. The compaction q...
