Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES): A case reportPatients with preeclampsia or eclampsia may be associated with hypertension, seizures and other neurologic symptoms and deficits. A young female patient presented with a neurological and visual disturbance which included variable symptoms like visual disturbances, headache, seizures and altered consciousness or mental status with a history of postpartum eclampsia after an uneventful LUCS. She also gave a history of a two-bag blood transfusion one month ago. A neurological and ophthalmic evaluation was performed. Detailed history taking and clinical evaluation followed by an imaging study, potentially magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), helped to confirm the diagnosis of Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES). PRES is a clinico-neuroradiological disorder of neurotoxicity that typically involves headache, mental confusion, seizures, and occasionally loss of vision. The exact pathophysiology of PRES is still unclear and has not been thoroughly explained. Hypertension and end...

Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES): A reversible neurological disorder an analysis through case seriesBackground: Aim of the study was to analyze 3 cases of PRES, a relatively uncommon disorder which is completely reversible and presenting as encephalopathy during a period of two year in a tertiary neurological centre in South India. Material and Method: Total of 3 cases of PRESyndrome were analysed retrospectively in a period of 2 yrs during January 1, 2014 to January 1, 2016 to assess the various presentations of this rare syndrome and their outcomes. Cases were studied in detail including complete history, clinical examination and other findings were recorded. Result: out of f 3 patients diagnosed with PRES were females between age of 19-29 years and were 5-8 days post partum. 66.6% presented as GTCS. 33.3% had history of systemic hypertension while 33.3% had a history of PIH and GDM. Only 33.3% presented with very high blood pressures on admission. MRI was diagnostic and suggested sub cortical vasogenic edema in all. All of the 3 patients recovered completely without residual neurological deficit or else required long term treatments. Conclusion: PRES should be considered in patients who present with symptoms of seizures / convulsions, alter in consciousness, visual disturbances and or headache, particularly if associated with acute hypertension. PRES has commonly seen in patients with chronic and acute kidney disease, solid organ transplantation, and use of immuno-suppressive drugs. Typical MRI findings include reversible, symmetrical, posterior subcortical vasogenic edema. If recognized and treated early, the rapid onset symptoms and radiologic features usually completely resolve within days to weeks.
Background: It is one of the unusual cause of Ischemic Stroke. Severe HTN , eclampsia , sympathomimetic drugs and autoimmune condition like SLE are major causative factors. Objective : To identify clinical outcme associated with Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome. Material And Methods : The study was done on 3 patient who came with complain of altered sensorium and admitted in Rims Ranchi , in the study period of 6 months. Clinical study and investigations were analyzed. Result : 2 patients had blood pressure more than 190 / 110 mmHg and 1 patient diagnosed with SLE. All 3 patients were discharged and followed up. Conclusion : It has good prognosis if causative factors are identified and promptly treated .

Clinical, imagiological and etiological spectrum of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome2015 •
Objective Analyze the cases of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) admitted in a Neurology Department during an 8-year period. Method Retrospective observational study in a central hospital in the north of Portugal. Results 14 patients were identified, mean age 52.3 years. Precipitating factors included: eclampsia, isolated arterial hypertension, spinal trauma and autonomic dysreflexia, Guillain-Barré syndrome, sepsis, sarcoidosis and pulmonary cryptococcosis and drugs. Most patients presented posterior-predominant vasogenic edema lesions, however 64.2% presented frontal lesions and in 42.8% cerebellum was involved. Four patients also had acute ischemic lesions and 1 had hemorrhagic lesions. During follow-up 10 patients recovered fully, 2 recovered partially, 1 suffered a recurrence and 2 died in hospital. Conclusion PRES has many etiological factors. The terms posterior and reversible should be revised because PRES frequently involves other brain regions and it is n...
