Abstract— The individual differences approach focuses on the variation of behavioral and neural signatures across subjects. In
this context, we searched for intracranial neural markers of performance in three individuals with distinct behavioral patterns
(efficient, borderline, and inefficient) in a dual-valence task assessing facial and lexical emotion recognition. First, we performed a
preliminary study to replicate well-established evoked responses in relevant brain regions. Then, we examined time series data and
network connectivity, combined with multivariate pattern analyses and machine learning, to explore electrophysiological
differences in resting-state vs. task-related activity across subjects. Next, using the same methodological approach, we assessed the
neural decoding of performance for different dimensions of the task. Classification of time series data mirrored the behavioral
gradient across subjects for stimulus type but not for valence. However, network-based measures reflected the subjects’
hierarchical profiles for both stimulus types and valence. Therefore, this measure serves as a sensitive marker for capturing
distributed processes such as emotional valence discrimination, which relies on an extended set of regions. Network measures
combined with classification methods may offer useful insights to study single subjects and understand inter-individual
performance variability. Promisingly, this approach could eventually be extrapolated to other neuroscientific techniques.

This paper examines the issues of internal control viz., fraud prevention in the banking industry, adopting both primary and secondary data. Primary data was used to test internal control while secondary data were employed to test fraud prevention. The main primary variables were separation of duties, monitoring, and staff qualifications while the main secondary variables are bank profit, regulation, technology and M2. In both cases regression techniques were adopted. The results show that internal control on its own is effective against fraud, but not all staff are committed to it, while the secondary data is quite supportive of the primary data but more exemplifying in that M2, staff qualifications and technology were significant throughout the various dependent variables. It is also clear from the regressions that technological based fraud is significant. The paper recommends the continuation of the cashless policy of the Central Bank to reduce available cash and improvement in e...

Keywords: Indus Fan turbidite system Quaternary stratigraphy sea-level pull-apart basin megaturbidite The Indus sedimentary basin forms one of the largest " source-to-sink " systems of the Quaternary and extends over 10 6 km 2 offshore. It is characterized by a complex tectonic setting marked by the Himalayan active orogenic belt in the source area, and the active strike-slip India-Arabia plate boundary (Owen Fracture Zone; OFZ) in its distal reaches. This paper focuses on a Late Quaternary channel–levee system from the Indus Fan captured by the recent opening of the 20°N pull-apart basin, located at 850 km off the present-day Indus Delta, along the OFZ. In this area the channel-mouth deposits consist of a set of up to 23 m thick megaturbidites trapped in the basin. These deposits form " ponded " lobe deposits in a tectonically-active confined basin. Age determination from radiocarbon dating and extrapolation of local deformation rates show that the older deposits observed on the seismic profiles are up to 358 ka BP old (MIS 10). The origin of these Late Quaternary deposits are investigated in the context of the Indus " source-to-sink " system and their significance is placed in a sequence strati-graphic framework. Integration of the stratigraphic architecture of the 20°N Basin megaturbidites with previous work in the area suggests that the Indus Fan evolved from a delta-fed turbidite system with several active canyons and channel–levee during the forced regressive conditions of the last falling stage of sea-level (122– 25 ka BP), to a point source turbidite system during the sea-level lowstand (Last Glacial Maximum) and early transgressive stages (25–12 ka BP). This work sheds new light on the recent evolution of the Indus sedimentary system and illustrates the importance of the delta/river evolution during the fall of sea-level (e.g., incised valley formation) on the timing of sedimentary transfer and sediment distribution at the basin-scale.

How can the harm caused by waves of fake news or derogatory speech on social media be minimized without unduly limiting freedom of expression? I draw on an eighteenth-century debate for thinking about this problem: Hume and Smith present two different models of the transmission of emotions and ideas. Empathetic processes are causal, almost automatic processes; sympathy, in contrast, means putting oneself into the other person’s position and critically evaluating how one should react. I use this distinction to argue that the architectural logic of social media should be improved to prevent cumulative harms and to facilitate sympathetic processes.

Background Caesarean section and associated factors require detailed investigation globally. This study aims to determine the rate and associated factors of caesarean deliveries in urban areas of Vietnam. Methods A cross-sectional study using questionnaire answered by women who had infants aged under 30 months was conducted from March to May 2021. Data were collected in 18 commune health centres in two cities during the day of routine immunization. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to assess factors associated with caesarean section. Results The overall caesarean section rate was 49.6%. The caesarean section rate in private hospitals (57.8%) were significantly higher than in public hospitals (49.1%). Caesarean section rate in first-time mothers (47.1%) were as high as this rate among mothers who had given birth before (50.6%). Factors associated with higher rate of caesarean section include increasing in women’s age, pre-pregnancy body mass index, gestational weight ga...

I begin with a series of spiritual visions I had in my mid-twenties. Next, I explore how they might fit into a wider mystical tradition. Then I connect one vision with descriptions of what is called spanda in the Kashmiri Shaivic tradition, and a scientific corollary in physicist David Bohm’s term holoflux. Next, I contextualize these experiences within old and nascent western metaphysical schools such as mainstream physicalism, dualism, panpsychism, and agentive cosmopsychism. I then adjudicate such experiences vis-a-vis western philosophers who deny the possibility or veridicality of transcendent experience—specifically Kant and Nietzsche, utilizing the metaphysics of American logician and scientist Charles Sanders Peirce. I end by suggesting that, within the agentive cosmopsychism I posit, as such agency is unlimited there might be a way (as suggested by Bohm) to heal humanity and the planet—an immodest proposal if there ever was one!
