Renal lymphangiectasia is a very rare benign disorder characterised by dilatation of the perirenal and peripelvic lymphatics. The condition is commonly misdiagnosed for othercystic lesions of the kidney such as polycystic kidneys. The diagnosis can be made with near-certainty if classical imaging findings are recognised. We report a case of bilateral renal lymphangiectasia, diagnosed on ultrasonography and computed tomography based on the typical imaging findings and the laboratory analysis of aspirated fluid. The patient was managed conservatively.

Background Renal lymphangiectasia also referred to as renal lymphangiomatosis is a rare, but benign condition is characterized by the ectatic of lymphatic channels and is characterized by ectasia of peripelvic, perirenal and/or intrarenal lymphatic vessels. It can mimic the appearance of hydronephrosis or cystic renal lesions on imaging. As radiologists, to avoid therapeutic misadventure, it becomes critical to make an accurate diagnosis. Case presentation The clinical presentation of renal lymphangiectasia is typically asymptomatic, but it can be complicated by infection or bleeding. We report two cases, who presented with loin pain, diagnosed as hydronephrosis on ultrasound, one of whom had a nephrectomy done for a hydronephrotic and non-functioning right kidney. Conclusions Hence, this case series brings to light a short review of the literature on renal lymphangiectasia, including its pathophysiology, clinical presentation, imaging findings, complications and differential diagno...

Renal lymphangiomatosis is a rare developmental malformation resulting in the development of cystic masses in the peri-pelvic or peri-renal areas. We report our experience in the management of this rare anomaly. Herein, we also describe the successful laparoscopic ablation of an uncommon subcapsular variant of renal lymphangiomatosis, which failed percutaneous drainage.

ntroduction: Multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK) is the most common form of developmental abnormality seen in infants and children. It is almost always unilateral and slightly more frequent in boys and on the left side. The other associated extra-renal abnormalities include esophageal atresia, tracheoesophageal atresia, ventricular septal defect and patent ductus arteriosus. The routine widespread use of antenatal ultrasonography has led to early detection of this abnormality. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively assessed fourteen cases of Multicystic dysplastic kidney between January 2004 and December 2014. All the cases underwent total nephrectomy and the specimens were sent to the department of Pathology with their respective clinical details and pathological findings were analyzed. Results: A total of fourteen (14) patients were diagnosed with unilateral MCDK over a period of 10 years with no sex predilection. Majority were on left side and antenatally diagnosed. Some patients had associated hypertension, vesicoureteral reflux and ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Microscopy revealed renal parenchyma replaced by cysts of variable sizes lined by flattened cuboidal epithelium. Intervening fibrotic stroma with mesenchymal components, primitive glomeruli, nerve bundles and dysplastic ducts. Conclusion: MCDK is mostly a unilateral sporadic anomaly usually found on the left side, however can be familial. It may be associated with hypertension, vesicoureteral reflux and ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Most of the patients can be diagnosed antenatally and confirmed on histopathology.
