Many aspects of the history of the Second World War have been studied in domestic and foreign historiography. The most understudied issue of such a difficult period is the problem of collaborationism. Military collaborationism in French means cooperation with the enemy, during the war, which was considered a war crime. This kind of cooperation took place in World War II. Among those who collaborated with Hitler's Germany were also Soviet citizens who were captured by the Germans. This problem was hushed up in Soviet historiography for many years due to certain ideological considerations. After the collapse of the USSR, historians began to study such a complex, at the same time interesting problem (Bishop, 2006: 192). The issue of prisoners of war to this day remains one of the debatable issues, about which there is no consensus among scientists. As you know, in 1939 the Second World War began, which took on a wider scale after the involvement of the USSR in this war. 62 states took part in World War II. Then, on the basis of the Rosenberg plan, it was decided to use the forces of prisoners of war for military-political purposes. Despite the fact that many people rallied against fascist ideology, people who collaborated with Hitler's Germany appeared on the political and military arena (Romanko,2014: 24-56). From among the prisoners of war of the USSR, the eastern legions began to form. Legions in Latin means to collect, recruit. During the Second World War, foreign formations were called legions, which were intended to conduct certain military operations. Eastern legions began to be created from Soviet prisoners of war. During the war years, the eastern legions had 86 battalions. The Eastern legions took part in the fighting in the North Caucasus. It should be noted that the main goal of Nazi Germany was to use the forces of foreign citizens for military-political purposes. For military purposes, the Third Reich wanted to achieve numerical superiority, which would also lead to a quick end to the war. The political goals were to demoralize Soviet citizens. The desire to demonstrate the failure of the communist ideology. Foreign citizens who collaborated with the Third Reich fought against communism. The prisoners of war did not show sympathy for Nazism, they pursued an anti-Bolshevik policy, thereby hoping for further granting them the right to independence.
