A simple definition of education is how to improve the potential of human life adapted with our values and cultures. While multiculturalism many experts define a diverse or compound. Indonesia has got more than 300 tribes actually they have different cultures, values, languages etc that sometimes happening a conflict. in this way Islamic Multiculturalism Education expected can solve the problems in our state or communities, at least give some awareness that conflict is not good situation to developed. Education has to capable give the bids which a smart solution, such as designing material, method and curriculum that make the communities understood the importance of tolerance, honor each other, can live together with different background.
Basically education is an instrument for humans use to advance their civilization and culture. education is always running and developing in line with human life. Islamic education as an education actvity which is colored by the spirit and values of Islam will also develop during the life of members of islam comunity. Changes and developments in Islamic education seem so fast, whereas the life of today's society as if we live without division and distance as the impact of globalization. it gives the impression that the cultural differences of one society with others will be apparent. The apparent differences will be a time bomb that will explode in time, further leads to disharmony in society or cultural clashes. In the meantime Islamic education must be able to enter space building an educational model that develops multicultural values such as tolerance, fair education and education that uphold the value of equality. Therefore, to develop this educational model needs to touch the curriculum as the heart of education. as we know that in developing the curriculum requires principles such as theological, philosophical, juridical and sociological principles in order to the development is not uprooted from the basic values of Islamic education
Kekerasan atas nama agama, suku, etnis, dan lain sebagainya sering menjadi suguhan biasa di negeri Indonesia. Memang den-gan karakter negaranya yang berpulau-pulau menjadikannya rentan akan perpecahan antara satu dengan yang lainnya. Aga-ma Islam sebagai agama dengan pemeluk terbesar diharapkan mampu menjadi penganyom beberapa pemeluk agama dan per-bedaan suku yang ada. Telah jelas pada masa Rasulullah, Islam sebagai agama yang membawa rahmat, melalui piagam madinah, hak-hak pemeluk agama dan setiap orang dilindungi oleh Islam. Oleh karena itu, dengan beranegaragam penduduk Indonesia, di-perlukan sebuah pemahaman tentang kemultikulturan, agar ti-dak terjadi perselisihan antar mereka yang dapat menghilangkan nyawa orang lain. Untuk dapat memberikan pemahaman tentang kemultikulturan tersebut, melalui pendidikan adalah anternatif yang paling efektif, baik formal maupun non formal. Karena den-gan itu, mulai dari generasi yang paling kecil sampai generasi tua bisa tercover, tidak menitikberatkan pada satu generasi saja. Quran is life guidance and there is no doubt about it, it is also as a guidance of all human life problems in this world, including problems of multicultural conflicts which occur in the society. Quran which consists of 30 juz 114 surah has explored humanistic principles and values in the interaction to other humans both of in group and inter group interaction need to be studied in order to solve all problems occurs in the society. Problems of this research are: (1) How are main themes of multicultural education values in tafsir Al-Azhar by Buya Hamka? (2) How is the perspective of Buya Hamka towards multicultural education values in tafsir Al-Azhar. This is a library research. Data collection technique is by using documents, the researcher collected and reviewed books, kitab, journals, and other writing materials which are connected to multicultural education and came up with the description. Data of this research was analyzed by using linguistics, sociological, and theological approach. Buya Hamka in interpreting verses about multicultural emphasizes on the concept of unity and similarity. According to Hamka, diversity is a starting points of the conflicts in the life of society. Unity and similarity concept by Buya Hamka can be viewed from two points. They are: (1) Unity and similarity of human origins from the same father and mother. (2) Unity and similarity of aqidah to make human becomes brothers and sisters.
