En este estudio se investiga el potencial de ahorro energético en el acondicionamiento térmico de viviendas y edificios mediante el uso eficiente de termostatos para calefacción y refrigeración. Se compara el comportamiento de calefactores convencionales, que funcionan a gas o resistencias eléctricas, con acondicionadores de aire frío/calor (bombas de calor), evaluando los Coeficientes de Performance de equipos disponibles en el mercado argentino. Se concluye que una reducción de 2 °C en la regulación de los termostatos en invierno puede reducir el consumo de calefacción en cerca del 30 %, siendo esta reducción aún más significativa en el caso de las bombas de calor durante el invierno. Por otro lado, durante el verano, un aumento de solo 1 °C en la regulación del termostato puede contribuir a una reducción de aproximadamente el 33 % en el consumo. Además, se muestra que las viviendas equipadas con bombas de calor presentan un consumo de calefacción considerablemente menor en comparación con aquellas que utilizan sistemas a gas natural, con una diferencia de hasta 7 veces en el consumo por metro cuadrado en el Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires y posiblemente en toda la región centro norte del cono sur.

The Translator, 2023

The Chinese translations of Ezra Pound, particularly those which feature his method of deconstructing individual Chinese characters, have frequently been criticised by scholars of sinology, and his translations have as such been classified as something 'other' (as 'poet's versions' or 're-creations') within translation studies. This paper attempts to reclaim Ezra Pound's 'etymographic' translations as translation proper, at the same time widening the scope of the near-defunct term 'graphological translation'. It will be shown that graphological translation can be performed when visual semantics are given priority over lexical semantics, and as such graphological translation cannot be judged by the successful (or otherwise) transfer of lexical meaning. It is easiest to approach Pound's treatment of Chinese (as a semantically charged 'motivated' writing system) using his previously ignored translations out of the highly visual Naxi script, a minority writing of southwest Chinese, that can be seen in his late poetry notebooks. Pound treats both character scripts as essentially ideographic and in translation highlights the graphological semantics of the source writing.

NHTSA recently published the final rule that upgrades the FMVSS No. 202 head restraint standard (69 FR 74848). The rule provides requirements that would make head restraints higher and closer to the head so as to engage the head early in the event of a rear impact. The rule also has provisions for a rear impact sled test option with a Hybrid III dummy that is intended in particular for active head restraints that do not meet the head restraint position requirements.

Mediating Historical Responsibility brings together leading scholars and new voices in the interdisciplinary fields of memory studies, history, and cultural studies to explore the ways culture, and cultural representations, have been at the forefront of bringing the memory of past injustices to the attention of audiences for many years. Engaging with the darkest pages of twentieth-century European history, dealing with the legacy of colonialism, war crimes, genocides, dictatorships, and racism, the authors of this collection of critical essays address Europe’s ‘difficult pasts’ through the study of cultural products, examining historical narratives, literary texts, films, documentaries, theatre, poetry, graphic novels, visual artworks, material heritage, and the cultural and political reception of official government reports. Adopting an intermedial approach to the study of European history, the book probes the relationship between memory and responsibility, investigating what it means to take responsibility for the past and showing how cultural products are fundamentally entangled in this process.
