In the past, most iconographical studies on slavery and similar phenomena focused on specific regions, cultures and periods. The aim of this conference is to look at a broad range of dependent and marginalized social groups and 'others' and to compare the results of iconographical studies on different pre-modern societies (prior to 1800 CE) around the globe. Therefore, we invited scholars from a wide variety of disciplines (Near Eastern Archaeology, Egyptology, Classical Archaeology, European Art History, Asian Art History, Anthropology of the Americas) in order to gain new insights by using diachronic and cross-cultural comparisons.
Cronica Cercetarilor Arheologice din Romania, campania 2023
Cercetari arheologice la Ocnita-Buridava, campania 2023, CCAThe ancient site of Ocnița, Vâlcea county, came to the attention of researchers starting from the 60s of the 20th century and became, thanks to Professor Dumitru Berciu, the best-known Dacian settlement from south of the Carpathians. The resumption of systematic research at Ocnița, in 2016, had as its central objectives the clarification of the site’s chronology issues, as well as the role and relationship of this power center with the Roman world, the necropolis issue being considered a secondary one. Research in 2023 continued on Terrace V. New graves were discovered here. Remarkable is M9, grave of an unburied child. The archaeological discoveries from this campaign confirm the existence on this terrace of a Dacian necropolis belonging to the classical era.1st century BC - 1st century AD.

The production, distribution and use of copper objects and the development of metallurgical skills in Neolithic Northern Central Europe and Southern Scandinavia are linked to early centres of copper metallurgy of South East Central Europe and Southeast Europe. A total of 45 Neolithic copper objects, until now the largest sample of Early Neolithic objects from the Northern Central European Plain and Southern Scandinavia, were selected for new lead isotope analyses. They aided in the identification of the origin of the copper: These new analyses indicate that the copper ore deposits in Southeastern Europe, especially from the Serbian mining areas, were used for the Early Neolithic northern artefacts (ca. 4100–3300 BC). The most likely sources of copper for the few Middle Neolithic artefacts (ca. 3300–2800 BC) seem to be from the Slovak Ore Mountains, the Serbian mining areas and the Eastern Alps, whereas deposits of the Slovak Ore Mountains and the Alpine region were used for the Late...
