16th International Conference in Music Analysis and Theory (GATM), Rimini, 10-13 October, 2019
A closer comparison between the major composers of sacred music in Venice during Antonio Vivaldi’s lifetime opens up new perspectives for a historical contextualization of his sacred vocal work from the 1720–1730s. The main argument of this paper is that a group of composers in the im- mediate context of Vivaldi pursued a modernization of the stile antico through Palestrina in different ways. Antonio Lotti’s stile concertato and stile ecclesiastico are said to not entirely follow the previous dichotomy of stile antico and seconda pratica. The question arises, if a concept of stile ecclesiatico could be applied to other associated composers. Two issues of major interest are: 1. The editions of Palestrina’s works that were respectively used by these Venetian composers – under consideration of dating, origin and scoring of these arrangements. 2. Fran- cesco Antonio Calegari’s accompaniment and notational practice for Pale- strina. Recent literature on Vivaldi, Lotti, Calegari and Benedetto Marcello shows then how their sacred work was concerned in different ways with ‘Roman’ features and the study of Palestrina. My current research deals with three selected work groups, built around three of Vivaldi’s double- choir pieces (RV 594, RV 610/610a, RV 597). A collection of printed (Tevo 1706, Bruschi 1711) and manuscript sources allows me to investigate a transfer of theoretical-practical knowledge within the Franciscan Order from 1690s–1730s. Main points of discussion concern: 1. Which requirements should be generally fulfilled in order to build philological-historical “source families” or empirical-statistical “corpora”? Can a “mixed method” be constructively applied to the cases at hand? 2. What is the relationship between vocal score and organ accompaniment? In terms of counterpoint, between mod- ules or Satzmodelle and disposizioni? In terms of style, considering tonal sys- tem and work chronology? Both the extensive catalogue of Vivaldi’s self- borrowings as the computer-assisted research on counterpoint will be taken into account.
Modern Law Review, 2019
Governments around the world are deploying automation tools in making decisions that affect rights and entitlements. The interests affected are very broad, ranging from time spent in detention to the receipt of social security benefits. This article focusses on the impact on rule of law values of automation using: (1) pre-programmed rules (for example, expert systems); and (2) predictive inferencing whereby rules are derived from historic data (such by applying supervised machine learning). The article examines the use of these systems across a range of nations. It explores the tension between the rule of law and rapid technological change and concludes with observations on how the automation of government decision-making can both enhance and detract from rule of law values.

Global Journal of Foreign Language Teaching, 2018
The present study aimed to examine the ways in which drama and drama techniques and practices, as implemented in the English language classes and combined with pedagogical practices, can create the appropriate conditions that promote learning environments conducive for learning English conversations. The participants of this study were 30 undergraduate male and female students who had studied English at the secondary and high school levels at the public schools in Ardebil. They were classified into control and experimental groups and. were administered a test-retest evaluation to measure the targeted language skills that was to be taught to them. In order to collect the necessary data, two modern plays were taught and rehearsed in classroom context and then, a retest were administered after the practice of these two modern dramatic discourse in the classroom. The different data-collecting techniques used for the current research were participant observation (direct and indirect) and interviews. After analysing the data, the results showed that there was no significant improvement in English competence of the control group but the experimental group revealed a tremendous achievement in their abilities in English conversations through the use of dramatic discourse.
