In June 2015 The Canadian Polish Research Institute organized a panel discussion chaired by professor Tamara Trojanowska called “Writing Change and Continuity: Culture, Languages, Generations.” The debate featured esteemed writers of Polish descent: Eva Stachniak, Andrew Borkowski, Ania Szado, Jowita Bydlowska and Aga Maksimowska. Although the writers in question do not belong to the same generation and do not share exactly the same emigration experience, nowadays they form a distinguished group of Canadian writers of Polish origins. The aim of this paper is to look at the selection of the latest texts written by authors of the Polish diaspora in Canada such as Eva Stachniak’s The Chosen Maiden (2017), Jowita Bydlowska’s Drunk Mom (2013) and Guy (2016), Ania Szado’s Studio Saint Ex (2013) and Aga Maksimowska’s Giant (2012) among others. This paper does not venture to repeat the conclusions drawn during the panel but rather to extend the exploration of the recent Polish diasporic, mu...

Lukács is widely recognized as being the first critical theorist to have explicitly developed the idea of a “standpoint theory”. According to such a theory, members of oppressed groups enjoy an epistemic privilege regarding the nature of their oppression. However, there is no agreement regarding what precise argument Lukács offers for his claims regarding the alleged epistemic privilege of the working class. Additionally, it remains unclear whether later feminist standpoint theories share any continuity with Lukács’s argument. In this analysis, I identify four arguments for the epistemic privilege of oppressed groups that could be attributed to Lukács. I argue that, although Lukács does not consistently endorse any specific argument, the most promising interpretation suggests that epistemic privilege arises from a contradiction between the norms that guide the self-understanding of such groups and the effects of the social practices they are socially obligated to engage in.

THE `PIGEON POTS´ OF TELL EL-GHABA IN THE EASTERN DELTA OF EGYPT DURING THE THIRD INTERMEDIATE PERIOD: TYPOLOGY AND CONTEXTS2023 •
Tell el-Ghaba is located on the Eastern Nile Delta (North Sinai, Egypt), close to the extinct Pelusiac branch of the Nile. It is an urban settlement that was occupied between the beginning of the Third Intermediate Period and the Early Saite Period (from the mid-10th century BC to the end of the 7th century BC). In this paper we will approach the study of a particular ceramic type within the group of objects found and analysed at Tell el-Ghaba: the pigeon pots. First, we will describe these objects, emphasising their morphology and composition; we will situate them temporally and spatially according to their discovery in other archaeological sites of ancient Egypt, and then we will summarise the various problems associated with their recognition and study. Finally, we will approach the Tell el-Ghaba pigeon pots in order to establish their typology, the contexts in which they were found and compare them with those from other contemporary sites -such as Tell el-Retaba, Tanis, Kom Firin, among others- for the Third Intermediate Period. In this way, we hope to contribute with additional information to the ceramic studies on pigeon pots already carried out in other sites in Egypt.
