Dreaming, 2024
Dreams in the time of Covid-19 We live in a surreal reality during the time of Covid-19. The world erupting with dangers creates a through-the-looking-glass dreamtime says Deirdre Barrett, a psychologist at Harvard Medical School. Compounded, concerned dreamers create Covid-like symptoms, tidal waves, monsters on the loose, and bugs, bugs, bugs. How else can we explain Bill Maher's supposition that the heavily made up orangehaired ex-president is the offspring of a human woman and an orangutan. At the root of an epidemic there can be far worse complications when joined with issues of race, privilege, and language that have always plagued civilization. A textbook example of this situation began in the warm Medieval period in Europe. The success of the agricultural sector created an excess population from the 8th to the 11th centuries. In Scandinavia redundant males were encouraged to go "a viking" in summertime. A mega-drought brought it all down. The Malthusian tipping point was reached in 1301. Famine and starvation provoked an extravagant state of the dreaming as depicted by Coppo Di Marcovaldo. The Catholic Church declared such nightmares to be the work of the Devil. Someone has to be blamed. The presence of the Devil was completely believable with the arrival of iceage conditions along with a strain of bacteria that lived on fleas, that lived on rats, that lived on humans. To survive the cold forests were burned off for heat. People then turned to coal for heat. The Black Death caused a 33% mortality rate across Europe. It was no respecter of gender, race, or economic status. The People were paranoid, frightened, or mad as hell as seen in The Triumph of Death painted by Orcagna in 1348. The starvation incurred by overpopulation began to be paid by serfs, yet it was they who would gain an advantage in negotiations with land owners. Their wages went up. The death of monks isolated in their scriptoria provoked the invention and use of the Gutenberg Press. This empowered Martin

Is there anything coherently ‘European’ about a European archaeology – or rather, about the ‘archaeology of Europe’ – or is it simply a modern political construct with no meaning in the ancient past? This paper analyses European archaeology through a historical perspective, tracing developments in the areas of archaeo- logical conservation (heritage), thinking (theory/interpretations) and publication and teaching. It critically examines a perceived trend in archaeology from a national towards a European framework, and concludes instead that local and regional frameworks have become stronger in all three areas. To move forward, we should use our understanding of the relationship between ideology, politics and archaeology to promote a research agenda that actively contributes to the formation of critical knowledge about the conditions for heritage and research in contemporary society. There is scope for an archaeology that addresses fundamental historical problems and long-term histories of the various geographically and culturally interlinked regions of Europe.

In the 90's of the past century and the first years of the next, the Romanian authorities noticed how the archaeological sites were assaulted by all sorts of individuals, equipped with metal detection devices, some of which came from outside the country. In that transitional age when everything became gray, in which the "smart guys" started businesses in the fields in which they had been active during communist period, archaeology with its great treasures could not be left aside, but framed in a kind of local entrepreneurship, but a criminal one. In this setting, the sites in the capital of PreRoman Dacia are of particular interest because there was already information in the literature that important treasures were discovered here from the first years of the 19th century, treasures composed of gold coins (Koson and pseudo-Lysimach). The first that started searching were the locals, people who knew both the potential of the area, but especially who served as a day laborer the archaeological sites, and even offered accommodation to the coordinating teachers of these systematic research campaigns. Helped by relatives established abroad, where the legal regime of metal detectors was already established, or by well-informed guys from Deva, the first ones arrived on the Garden Valley, and thus the first discoveries are produced. The judicial authorities demonstrated during the criminal investigation that the first discovery of a large treasure (3000 or 4000 coins) took place in 1996 on Muncelul Hill at the point called La Fagii de Bodea. After that, other discoveries were made, monetary or orphevro-monetary ones with gold and silver goods. Also, during the criminal investigation, were picked up from locals, poachers and collectors, members of the criminal enterprise that was formed by the involvement of the interlopers, no less than 30 silver and bronze coins hidden at their homes or capitalized to individuals with apparent collector velleities. But as we could see during the doctoral research, Sarmizegetusa Regia, was not only the capital of the treasures, but rather the centre of metallurgical activity in the Orăştie Mountains, therefore throughout the terrace of the civil settlement on Piciorul Muncelului, poachers removed from the ground a huge number of iron artefacts which they probably could not capitalized, and in some cases they even carried them, abandoned or reburied along with the packaging of expensive cigarette packs or sweets they consumed. Around 1000 abandoned artefacts were recovered by archaeologists over time and deposited in the custody of national Museum of Transylvania in Cluj-Napoca and a close number at the Museum of Dacian and Roman civilization in Deva. In my opinion, the number of pieces of common materials (iron, copper and bronze) is high, because according to the statement of a witness actively involved in the removal of goods from archaeological sites because he was a good connoisseur of the area, at one point, he and others, wanting to earn profit in addition to what poachers paid him for the role of boiler-handling, they loaded a truck with such abandoned artifacts, which they capitalized at Remat Orâştie at the price offered for scrap! Whereas this phenomenon, generically called archaeological poaching, has had a fulminant magnitude. In this paper, I will mention an analysis of jurisprudence in the field of cultural heritage crime, highlighting the damage created to the Romanian state and the historical research following the criminal activity and presenting as measures of empowerment of the young woman Generations, sensitive to Indiana Jones syndrome, include in the pre-university and university curriculum modules ment to form a culture of protecting cultural heritage.

The main idea of publishing this guidebook in the Burmese language is mainly grounded on the confusion of Myanmar people around the world regarding the UN’s responses to the political crisis in Myanmar. On the other hand, many people have always criticized why the UN does not respond to the world's political turmoil based on the UN system's mandate. It seems very important to understand how the UN mechanism works and how the human rights mechanisms can help the UN human rights rapporteurs and diplomats influence the UN dialogue sessions

I have often wondered why Qatar mediates. They are a very small nation with oodles of money.
They also need protection to continue their dynasty; there is Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia... and thus they seek powerful and wealthy Nations like the UK and the US and give them a base as a footprint to ward off especially Iran...
And by doing so, they have to "give in" to whatever the UK and the US want. Take the example of their brokering the Taliban take over in Afghanistan. What did Qatar really achieve? What did the US under Trump/Pompeo really achieve? They wanted to withdraw. And, so they set the deal brokered by Qatar, to have the Taliban return to rule; which they did...
What will Qatar achieve in brokering Peace between ZAI, the Palestinian Resistance with input from the Arab Nations, the USA, the UK and the EU?
Qatar will achieve nothing. Its results will be the same as those with reference to Afghanistan and the Taliban...
Afghanistan to Biden, is a Muslim Country, filled with "Barbaric Terrorists". This is how Biden sees the Earth and its peoples (Huntington -The Clash of Civilizations; modern historians call it The Clash of Ignorances filled with Arrogance - see the Aga Khan Comments). AND BIDEN TREATS THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLES IN THE SAME MANNER
The ZAI/Abraham's Land is in the Middle East and must negotiate dialogue with the rest of the Middle East Nations. ZAI must sever its umbilical cord with the USA/UK/EU. And these three entities must sever the umbilical cord with the ZAI/Abraham's Land

Epiphytes represent a conspicuous component of the canopy of old‐growth forests, reaching biomass values of up to 44 t/ha. Forest epiphytes host a rich invertebrate community; however, the contribution of epiphytes to the richness and abundance of canopy invertebrates is still quite unknown, and has not been experimentally assessed in old‐growth forests. We studied the contribution of epiphyte loads to invertebrate species composition and abundance in the crown of large old individual trees of Eucryphia cordifolia (Cunoniaceae) in old‐growth forests from southern Chile. We accessed the canopy using arborist techniques and contrasted the invertebrate species richness and biomass inhabiting four large canopy trees (25–30 m high, 1.2 m DBH), two of them with intact epiphytes and two trees from which epiphytes were manually removed. For over a year (April, 2006 to May, 2007) we made monthly collections of invertebrates from each tree's crown using flight‐interception and eclector tr...

Analyze the content of documents used to guide mandatory fortification programs for cereal grains. Legislation, standards, and monitoring documents, which are used to mandate, provide specifications for, and confirm fortification, respectively, were collected from countries with mandatory wheat flour (n=80), maize flour (n=11), and/or rice (n=6) fortification as of January 31, 2015, yielding 97 possible country-grain combinations (e.g., Philippines-wheat flour, Philippines-rice) for the analysis. After excluding countries with limited or no documentation, 72 reviews were completed, representing 84 country-grain combinations. Based on best practices, a criteria checklist was created with 44 items that should be included in fortification documents. Two reviewers independently scored each available document set for a given country and food vehicle (a country-grain combination) using the checklist, and then reached consensus on the scoring. We calculated the percentage of country-grain ...

Cymbopogon martinii (Cm.Cr) is traditionally used in south Asian communities for the management of multiple ailments including gastrointestinal, respiratory and vascular disorders and the present study was undertaken to validate these folkloric uses. The application of a methanol extract of the plant (Cm.Cr) to isolated rabbit jejunum preparation exhibited relaxation through decrease in magnitude and frequency of spontaneous contractions. The Cm.Cr also exerted relaxant effect on high K(+) (80 mM) induced contractions in isolated rabbit jejunum preparations. The Cm.Cr and its dichloromethane (Cm.Dcm) and aqueous (Cm.Aq) fractions also caused concentration-dependent relaxation in spontaneous and K(+) (80 mM) induced contractions which are comparables to effects produced by verapamil. Cm.Cr caused shifting of the Ca(2+)-curves toward right, suggesting the presence of a Ca(2+) channel blocking activity. Subsequently, Cm.Cr, Cm.Dcm and Cm.Aq caused relaxation of CCh (1 μM) and K(+) (80 ...
