An introduction to Hans Peter Duerr's severely neglected classic, Dreamtime (1978). German anthropology is finally receiving much-needed attention; hence, the present work is partly intended as a contribution to these ongoing efforts to explicate it for an Anglophone audience. But more than this, Dreamtime's challenging argument critically engages with themes of major importance to contemporary anthropology more generally-among them, the interrelated issues of ontology, translation and transformation. I attempt to explore this and trace out the significant affinities and resonances of Duerr's argument with the work of an eclectic collective of others, including Evans-Pritchard, Sahlins, Stengers, and Deleuze.
Palliative and Supportive Care
Psychosocial palliative care: Patients’ preferred intervention medium, target domains, and well-being prioritiesObjectives Although psychological distress in palliative patients has at least an equal or greater impact on the quality of life compared to physical or spiritual distress, there is limited research on contextual factors associated with psychosocial intervention accessibility and relevance. This is the first published study to explore patients’ views on psychosocial intervention delivery medium preferences, key biopsychosocial target domains, and well-being priorities during the palliative and end-of-life (EOL) phases. Methods Eighty-one palliative patients from a Specialist Palliative Care Service completed a questionnaire, which collected quantitative and qualitative data on preferred mediums for receiving psychosocial interventions, priority biopsychosocial target domains, and well-being priorities during the palliative and EOL phases. Results Results showed that an individual in-person was the most preferred medium for receiving psychosocial interventions. Improving quality of l...

Production and Logistics of Crossbow Bolts in the Early Renaissance. Florence and the War Against Lucca (1429–1433), in Tools of War, Atti del 7th Scientific Conference Faces of War (Łodź, 9-10 giugno 2022), University of Łodź, 2024, pp. 125-144.2024 •
ENG. In the autumn of 1429, Florence declared war on Lucca, to complete its domination over the north of Tuscany. The siege began in December and continued until the mercenary chief Niccolò Piccinino defeated the Florentine army outside the walls of Lucca, but the war continued until May 1433. In this period, although firearms already existed, the use of crossbows was still very important. To satisfy the requests of Florence, the men of Montefioralle, a small town in Chianti, specialised in the production of crossbow bolt heads. In this village of about two hundred inhabitants, every man was a blacksmith and together they produced on average 100,000 metal elements every six months. The shafts for the crossbow bolts were, on the other hand, produced by other specialised craftsmen in the mountains of the Casentino, and were assembled in other places. The Florentine war office, the Dieci di Balìa, took care of the logistics both to connect the different artisans and to send the ammunition to the battlefields and fortresses. Thanks to the documents kept in the State Archives of Florence, it has been possible to reconstruct the entire network of artisans, the management of shipments, and the quantity and expense for these ammunitions. PL.
Throughout history, honey has been used for many different purposes and due to its medicinal properties, has been one of the products marketed by traders. The figure of the bee first appeared in drawings on rock with the history of humanity, then on statues, as a logo, on money or stamps, and also in movies. Beekeeping museums, which present the historical process of beekeeping, also reflect an important culture with their ancient hives, documents, beekeeping materials, and historical antiquities. The contribution of bees to the sustainability of natural life is very important and has a history of 100 million years. The importance of bees and their by-products is increasing day by day, and the demand for the beekeeping industry as alternative income determines the emergence of new products and activities. Based on its health properties, apitherapy is the basis of activities such as api-air and api-diet. In natural regions (i.e., mountainous areas, forests) where beekeeping is carrie...

Cloud computing is a type of computing model in which resources are accessed from a centralized pool of resource. The cloud management software has to manage the resources at large scale. Cloud represents ubiquitous computing means that it found everywhere. Cloud computing has become an alternative means of internet for this computing world. Cloud user and the cloud service provider are the two main units involved in cloud computing. Since a cloud is the set of many nodes, which can support a variety of application which is used by the clients on the basis of pay per use. By its pay per use characteristics cloud computing is very popular now a days. However, there are issues and problems in regarding of cloud computing security which is becoming a competitive boundary among various cloud service providers. In this survey paper, we introduces in depth analysis of security issues in the cloud computing environment and challenges which are focusing on the types of cloud computing. We show cloud trust protocol which is a solution approach to limit these challenges and issues.
