cientists are increasingly called to apply a business-centric and dynamic approach in managing their research programs. Practical solutions for streamlining work can be found by staying in touch with informatics innovations. Web 2.0 offers useful applications for post award research management, a phase that focuses upon implementation of study protocol particulars. Applications include shared networking for document building, social networking and social writing for publication, research registry, and data management support. This article aims to describe the utility of and difficulties of selected Web 2.0 tools for grant post-award management and concludes with discussion of considerations. The evolution of Web 2.0 into Research 2.0 potentiates more efficient grant post-award management. S
E. Laflı (ed.), Archaeology of western Anatolia 1: proceedings of the first international symposium. Archaeology of Izmir and its close environs during the Middle Ages. November 18, 2022 / Izmir, Turkey., 2022
The purpose of this first international video conference was to create an analytical framework for understanding the archaeology of Izmir and its environs in western Anatolia during the Middle Ages, i.e. a period between the fifth and fifteenth centuries AD, with its social and material contexts. We intended thus to bring together researchers who can present especially new syntheses of archaeological, historical, numismatic and sigillographic data concerning Medieval Smyrna and its environs. In this online conference we have also included three papers on the archaeology of Smyrna in the ancient Greek and Roman periods which composed our first session. This video conference took place on November 18, 2022 in Izmir, Turkey with an archaeological excursion to the sites and museums within the city of Izmir on November 19. All the lectures and discussions in our e-conference were on Zoom and in English, and were recorded for later viewing on YouTube for participants who were unable to attend the live performance presentation. The symposium was first announced in May 2022. Between May and September 2022 there were more than ten paper applications from six countries, including – in alphabetical order – Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, Russia, Turkey and U.S.A., ten of which were accepted. Three speakers held their lectures both physically in Izmir and virtually on Zoom; the rest of the papers were presented on Zoom. Session 1 was organized in the Main Conference Hall of the Faculty of Letters in Tınaztepe Campus (in Block C), and Session 2 was organized in the office of Professor Laflı. This book was arranged mainly in November 2022 where papers were placed in order by speakers’ turns at the conference. It was constantly being updated in its online version on our Academia account. It is also published by the Press House of the Dokuz Eylül University in December 2022. This first symposium on the archaeology of western Anatolia is dedicated to the 20th death anniversary of Professor Ekrem Akurgal, founder of modern Turkish archaeology, who passed away on November 1st, 2002. Magnification and Miniaturization in Religious Communication in Antiquity and Modernity: Materialities and Meanings, 2023
The purpose of this paper is to reassess the potential role of pagan-mythological marble statuettes in religious communications at the end of Antiquity. I will start this paper with an assessment of our evidence for statuettes in Late Antiquity, followed by a discussion of basic but often overlooked and highly important methodological considerations. After, I will briefly describe two contexts in which pagan-mythological statuettes were still on display in the first half of the seventh century: the House of the Painted Inscription (Casa dell’iscrizione dipinta) at Hierapolis (western Turkey) and the colonnaded main street of Sagalassos (south-western Turkey). In both contexts, the statuettes were preserved by multiple generations of viewers and users long after many other statuettes had already disappeared. In attempting to understand what these statuettes were doing so late in time, in a final section I broaden my view to contemporary practices involving 3D depictions of human forms, from the very small to the large, and to practices involving pagan-mythological imagery more broadly.

De Ilipa a Munda. Guerra y conflicto en el sur de Hispania, 2021
With the study and reinterpretation of new discoveries of Roman Republican weaponry in Hispania, and also the re-study of objects exhumed years ago, research in recent decades is achieving a complementary vision in the understanding of the most relevant historical events (usually conflicts), which take place in the period between the conquest and the Empire. One of these cases is the second civil strife in Rome or the Sertorian conflict, and one of its main military sites is the camp of Cáceres el Viejo. As an emblematic site, a summary analysis is made of the objects identified as weapons after a century of excavations, in an attempt to reveal the army corps stationed there and its different units of intervention.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PILATES METHOD IN THE AGING PROCESS: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW (Atena Editora), 2024
Population aging is a global reality, affecting both developed and underdeveloped countries. In the Brazilian context, the number of elderly people has shown a rapid increase, highlighting the importance of approaches to promote active aging. The objective of this research is to highlight the therapeutic effects of the Pilates method on the aging process. This integrative review investigates the importance of the Pilates method for elderly people over 60 years of age, as an intervention method, mainly for the active aging factor. For this purpose, a bibliographical search was carried out in the Scielo, LILACS and Pubmed databases. Considering the continuous increase in the elderly population, the results indicate that the pilates method plays a fundamental role and is a valuable tool for each individual, carried out by trained physiotherapists, being beneficial in preventing falls, in addition to improving physical and mental conditioning, being a low-impact alternative that addresses several aspects, such as mobility, flexibility, muscular strength and balance, all of these physical capabilities are important to contribute to physical fitness. The regular practice of exercises, such as Pilates, shows us to have a positive impact on the quality of life, leading to global strengthening, bringing personal autonomy, in addition to contributing to knowledge and its implications. However, it is important to highlight that the research highlighted the need for more studies to understand these long-term effects and modality.
This workshop will explore the dynamic intersection between digital technologies and medieval studies, with a particular focus on medieval Italian research. It aims to foster an interdisciplinary environment by bringing together the rich traditions of medieval studies with the cutting-edge potential of digital tools. The event will bring together a diverse group of experts, including Dante scholars, specialists in medieval Italian literature, historians, computer scientists, palaeographers, and other professionals in medieval studies, to discuss and share insights on the use of digital methods in various segments of medieval research. The workshop aims to facilitate a broad dialogue across disciplines, breaking down conventional barriers and encouraging innovative collaborations. The term ‘beyond’ signifies not only the exploration of different digital techniques, but also the workshop’s aim to bridge Medieval Italian Studies with other medieval disciplines, potentially opening up new perspectives and methodologies that could enrich Medieval Studies as a whole. Each session will consist of 25-minute presentations followed by a 40-minute to 1-hour discussion period, allowing for in-depth analysis and exchange of ideas on each topic. This format is designed to encourage active engagement and networking among participants, enabling them to explore the complex implications of digital advances for medieval studies and beyond. The workshop aims to serve as a dynamic platform for discussing the transformative role of digital projects in medieval studies, highlighting the critical role of interdisciplinary collaboration and the exploration of new, innovative research avenues within the field.
