The fort of Ad Mures (Ács, Komárom-Esztergom County, Hungary) New investigations on the northern section of the ripa Pannonica2023 •
The Roman auxiliary fort of Ad Mures (Ács-Bumbumkút, Komárom-Esztergom County, Hungary) has recently been studied intensively using geophysical surveys and a planned excavation by the team of the Institute of Archaeological Sciences of the Eötvös Loránd University. The paper presents the preliminary results of these investigations, focused on the layout of the fort and the relative chronology of the site, based on the data collected during the 2023 excavation. Results indicate several analogies with the fort of Ad Statuas (Ács-Vaspuszta).

Medieval Culture in the Albanian Territories
Kultura mesjetare në hapësirat arbërore (Medieval Culture in the Albanian Territories). International Conference2024 •
Through this conference, it is intended to encourage and enable new research by Albanian and foreign researchers on the medieval history of the Albanian lands, focusing mainly on culture, but also on economy and politics. The international scientific conference "Medieval Culture in Albanian Territories" is a direct commitment of the Department of the Middle Ages and Renaissance of the Institute of History, Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Albania, and the Institute of History "Ali Hadri" - Pristina, Republic of Kosovo. Although numerous publications have been devoted to medieval studies by Albanian and foreign researchers, starting from documentary sources and monographs to scientific articles, etc., there is still much to be done, and we hope that this conference will contribute itself in this direction. This is precisely the purpose of the conference: to provide the latest news on the subject in question. The period on which the lectures will be focused is The Middle Ages, from the 4th century to the end of the 15th century. So the topics of the presentations will be strictly confined to the medieval period. Pra temat e kumtesave do i përmbahen strikt periudhës mesjetare.

The Filipina Women’s Movement is just one example of how the women from third-world countries have organized and fought to find their place amidst oppressive regimes, patriarchal systems and limited rights. In fact, the role of women in Philippine society was shaped by the Filipina’s demand for social justice, equality, freedom and democracy...Unfortunately, literature and information about this movement remains barely visible. This leads me to believe that there is a lack of attention in social movement literature paid to third-world women’s movements with particular attention to Asian societies.
This paper is available open access. The paper considers different ways of conceptualising the settings in which research takes place into children’s everyday uses of digital technologies at home. The terms ‘ecology’ and ‘context’ are widely used to describe such settings but may be less appropriate as the boundaries between ‘home’ and ‘technology’ become less distinct. The paper traces associations between ‘ecology’, ‘culture’ and ‘context’ and outlines some of the ways in which the increasing omnipresence and invisibility of technologies in the home prompt different ways of both thinking about the research setting and suitable methods for exploring children’s everyday lives. Using the Internet of Things as an illustration, it contests default understandings of context and discusses the need to reconsider our use of terminology so that it takes account of the methodological implications and its theoretical provenance.

Servi poenae: Were Roman emperors free to determine the fate of those condemned to the arena2024 •
Hollywood productions portray Roman emperors using a seemingly spontaneous thumb gesture to seal a gladiator's fate in response to an amphitheater packed with howling spectators baying for blood or clementia. This has reinforced the widely-held assumption that Rome's princeps could wield his power of granting life or death with little or no other input. But, Aglaia McClintock, Associate Professor at the University of Sanno in Benevento, Italy points out this could not be further from the reality of governing a Roman world defined by complex laws in which the fate of individuals often involved consideration of their position within the social hierarchy and the circumstances leading to their participation in the spectacle.
