Call for Papers International Journal of Tourism Cities Themed Issue: Sharing economy in a changing tourism ecosystem Themed Issue Editors: Dr. J. Andres Coca-Stefaniak, University of Greenwich, UK Dr. Sergio Moreno-Gil, University Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain Theme The Sharing Economy has arrived to stay. This breakthrough innovation has changed the tourism ecosystem and destinations. It has led to the arrival of new players, new relationships and new impacts. Accommodation platforms such as Airbnb, HomeAway, CouchSurfing, etc.); transportation (Uber, BlaBlaCar); reviews (TripAdvisor); Information (Wikipedia, Wikitravel); Travel guiding (Tours by Locals); Food & Beverage (EatWith); activities, etc. All these platforms have radically changed the concept of the hospitality and tourism ecosystem. The peer-to-peer phenomenon means people sharing and trading ownership, use, access, information, money, etc. This new scenario has major implications for tourism destinations where tourist and residents interact under different “rules”. The concept of sharing economy (Belk, 2014) has been widely accepted in the literature. Besides other labels have been very popular. Terms such as the collaborative economy (Dredge and Gyimóthy, 2015), peer economy (Bauwens, 2012), platform economy (Kenney and Zysman, 2016;), gig economy (Friedman, 2014), and on-demand economy (Gurvich, Lariviere, and Moreno, 2016) show the complex and changing tourism ecosystem we are facing in destinations. This Themed Issue takes a broad scope to analyze the changes generated by this phenomenon in the tourism ecosystem and cities. Theoretical, empirical and case study manuscripts are welcome as far as there is a contribution. The aims of this Themed Issue of IJTC are to: 1. Define and operationalize the concept of a destination under the new sharing economy paradigm. 2. Determine the relationship of impacts (positive and negative) generated in destinations by the sharing economy. 3. Explore the physical, social, economic and experiential dimensions of the sharing economy in destinations. 4. New entrepreneurs, new hospitality services, new employees and new tourists within the sharing economy. New regulations and guidelines for destinations and the relationships among their stakeholders. 5. The role of destination management organizations (DMOs) in this new scenario. 6. Analyze visitors’ destination images and changes therein produced by the sharing economy.
