Japan's capital Tôkyô and its airports: problems and prospects from subnational and supranational perspectives2003 •
This paper deals with air passenger traffic and airport competition in Japan and East and Southeast Asia. The focus is on the airports serving Tôkyô, and the question whether they will be able to meet the future transport needs of a ‘global city’. The concentration of the paper is on two topics: an analysis of the position of the capital region airports within the Japanese airport hierarchy and an examination of the competition between Tôkyô and the major metropolitan airports in East and Southeast Asia. The paper provides insights into the basic problems and perspectives of Japanese airport policies, the current conflicts concerning the goals and strategies of airport development in Tôkyô and the complex interests of key actors.

Japan's regional airports: conflicting national, regional and local interests2002 •
Globalization is currently a hotly discussed topic, and one of the most important means of linking modern industrialized and globalized societies is air transport. Since the late 1950s Japan has been expanding its airport infrastructure all over the country. The current peculiarities of the airport system cannot be attributed solely to natural and regional economic features, however. A particularly interesting and revealing question relates to the actors involved in Japanese airport policies and their strategies and interests. This paper will therefore focus on the politicians, ministerial bureaucrats and businessmen who form Japan's so-called “iron triangle”. We will look at airport policies in hopes of gaining insights into the networks of relationships between these actors, their power structures and how stable these networks and structures are under the conditions resulting from the recent political reforms.

The dissertation explains about capacity and flow inside terminal buildings in two regional airports in Indonesia: Minangkabau and Adisutjipto International Airports. Both airports have similar characteristics of passengers’ number and locations as tourism areas. Secondary data in the form of existing terminal layouts and air traffic numbers were gained from both airports authorities in Indonesia. The analysis was carried out using the formulas from Japan International Cooperation Agency – Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Indonesia(JICA-DGCA) studies in 1996 for significant areas in the terminal building, Ashford and Wright formula for calculating aircraft movement per hour, Microsoft Excel for calculating the 10-year passenger growth rate, and SPSS for determining the linear equation for domestic departure resulted in the forecasted saturation in the near 2020 for both of airports, especially on passengers’ handling areas such as boarding lounge (for departure) and baggage ...

The purpose of passenger growth analysis is to predict what we’ll do for the future. Some airports in the world have a long plan to use their airport with effective and efficient, but in this period, Indonesia has a significant increase of population. So, in developing country such as Indonesia, the country must have good politic and economic. It can be implemented and can be survived for a long time, the result is a lot of people have a good financial and economic in their life. To cover their want and need in aviation point of view, we must do preventive action like building up the new terminal to expand and accommodate the passenger or airport development. Even though we can predict and do action about passenger growth, we must improve our service and quality as airport management in all of the aspect. Airport management has also made airport master plan. This study case, we consider the airport terminal capacity, planning problem as a whole. We use Method Descriptive Research.
