Since society began to develop rapidly, a person's life habits have also changed. Such a change has led to a change in the wording system of our language, as a result of which it has become a copy language that repeats the elements of a different language, which involves only the exchange of information. Therefore, it is important to show the norms and patterns of traditional wording, while maintaining the substantive nature of our language. Fairy tales are one of the oldest folklore genres, which has not changed, spreading among the population by word of mouth. Their influence on the development of a child's language and the maturation of imagination has been proven by scientists. The purpose of the research work is to identify traditional Kazakh wording patterns in the language of fairy tales. Kazakh fairy tales collected by A. Divayev were taken as the object of study. During the writing of the article, a linguo-stylistic analysis was carried out, sentence construction, transmission of complex phrasal integrity, internal/external relationship of the text, system were considered, as a result of which criteria were determined that serve as an example for the Kazakh wording in the fairy tale text. The scientific significance of the research work is the definition of traditional grammatical, ethical, communicative norms of the Kazakh language, practical significance is recommended as an application for students of philology, linguistics, journalism, Kazakh language learners.

Kazakh, who have Kipchak origin and date back to 15th century in historical documents, have some similar traditions to old Turkic traditions in terms of graves and grave stones. Because they live the steppe culture today, Kazakhs continue to do some old Turkic traditions that they have been able to integrate with Islamic rules and basis. The word “Kabir” (grave) is a word of Arabic origin that entered the Kazakh steppes in the process of spreading Islam and means the place where the dead person was buried. The word “Kabirtas” (grave stone) is a stone including many meanings and placed on the grave where the dead was buried. In Kazak language, these structures are called as “sıntas, sandıktas, koytas, kabirtas or kulpıtas”. As in the old Turks, the graves in Kazakhs are usually constructed in high places so that they are not damaged by natural events. In the Kazakh society, some graves were ascribed holiness. For example, the tomb of Hoca Ahmet Yesevi in the city of Turkistan has a very high spiritual value not only for Kazakhs but also for the whole Turkic World. In Kazakh society, some religious obligations that could not be realized are considered to have been fulfilled by visiting Ahmet Yesevi tomb, and visiting the Yesevi tomb three times is considered to be equivalent to pilgrimage. When some Kazakh Khans died, they bequeathed to be buried next to the saints in the city of Turkistan. The burial place was sometimes hidden in Kazakhs, as in old Turkic and mostly Mongo-lian traditions. For example, the place where Kabanbai Batyr, who gained great reputation for his heroism in battles against Kalmyks, was buried is not known exactly. The grave stone which is erected on the head of the tombs has many meanings for the Kazakhs who adopted a nomadic life style. The grave stone can some-times serve as a compass during the migration in the vast steppe and sometimes it can be the resting point of the tired. However, just like in the Kokturk, in the old Kazakh culture there is a tradition of drawing the face of the dead person on the grave stone. However, nowadays, it is possible to say that this tradition has been disappearing. In the Kazakh culture, graves and grave stones have a spiritual value as well as their daily functions such as sheltering and orientation. In our field research, it has been witnessed that Kazakh people often visit the grave of the person who is loved and adopted in the society in order to find out solutions for their problems, cures for their illnesses. In this study, historical graves and grave stones will be discussed, especially in the western region of Kazakhstan and around Almaty, and the similarities between some prac-tices related to the construction of the grave in Kazakhs and the old Turkic life and belief system developed around the steppe will try to be found out.

Extended Summary:
Since word-initial vowel deletion (or elision) is not a frequent phonological
phenomenon, and it requires, in some cases, etymological knowledge, it has been
studied on Turkology in a very limited way. The most exhaustive work carried on
the phenomenon so far has been the paper of Vahit Türk, “Türkçede Ön Seste Ünlü
Düşmesi (Aphaeresis, Aphesis) Örnekleri” [Word-initial vowel deletion (Aphaeresis,
Aphesis) examples in Turkish], which was published in 2003. The paper, however, lacks
earlier literature concerning the phenomenon. Therefore, our paper aims to complete the
gap in terms of literature around word-initial vowel deletion and share new observations
through whole materials including the ones that escaped Türk’s work.
The scope of this paper is restricted to diachronic (lexicalized) word-initial vowel
deletion (henceforth WIVD) instances in Turkic literary languages. In cases where the
references include dialectical materials, we’ve also considered them, otherwise we
have not, in order to find further instances, resorted to dialectological dictionaries of
the languages in question. The sandhi cases (e.g., cuma ertesi ‘Saturday’ > cumartesi),
whose phonological consideration is controversial in literature of Turkology, have
been ruled out. Early cases are shown only when we seek to indicate the diachronic
traces of modern examples. If we’ve determined a word base with WIVD, we have
not taken derivatives from the base into consideration. The word definitions elicited
from dictionaries have been curtailed to the extend to give basic meaning.
WIVD in Turkic Studies
Turkologists who have examined WIVD cases in Turkic languages or a given
Turkic language since XIXth century all come to the conclusion that this phonological
phenomenon not often occurs. Yet, Deny disagrees with them in case of Turkish, saying
“it occurs quite often than we think” (1995, p. 101). There are some explanations on
why this phenomenon takes place. Räsänen claims that stress on final syllable of
word causes reduction on the first syllable vowel, even deletion of it (1949, p. 44). In
Deny’s opinion, aphérèse principally happens on an open syllable and causes the loss
of that syllable (1995, p. 101). Tenishev et al. propose that vowels in initial syllables in
polysyllabic words transform according to following conditions: 1) quality of vowel,
2) stress, 3) character of syllable, 4) adjoining consonants, 5) influence of following
vowels (1984, p. 78). All the observations on WIVD correspond on following three
facts:
a) It occurs on unstressed and high vowels,
b) It occurs on open syllables,
c) It occurs before liquid or fricative consonants.
Nevertheless, we have also those instances violating first fact. Türk underscores
the fact that WIVD cases on low vowels go through raising before vowel deletion
(2003, p. 228). Our paper, involves, though a few in number, those which violate the
second and third facts.
As mentioned above the only mono-graphic work on WIVD in Turkic languages
belongs to Vahit Türk. Since this paper has unique position on the Turkology literature, it is worth mentioning. As he puts, he determined 89 words (some are nominal
phrases) with WIVD, yet it is 97 according to our calculation. A small part of the
instances are taken from early Turkic texts and Anatolian Turkish dialects, whereas
majority are elicited from modern Turkic languages. Some examples are but phonetic
variants in different languages, e.g., fat- ‘to crush, crumble’ (Gagauz, Ottoman) ~ vat-
(Bashkir, Chuvash, Tatar), lep ‘flame’ (Kirgiz) ~ lav (Kazakh, Tatar, Uyghur), sen- ‘to
trust’ (Kazakh) ~ şan- (Chuvash), etc. In addition to simplex and derivatives, phrases
or compounds are also considered in the paper: birisi gün ‘the day after’ (< ol birisi
gün), eşu ‘that’s’ (< ana şu), yıbar- ‘to send’ (< Old Turkic ıdu ber-) or oblique forms
such as yessi ‘owner’ (Anatolian dialect), yiliğe ‘for good’ (Anatolian dialect). Though
Türk devoted his article to word-initial vowel deletion, he also exemplified following
CV and VC elisions: çık- (< Old Turkic taşık-), nāk ‘cheek’ (< yanak), lak ‘yeanling’
(< ulak < ūlak < oglak).
Phonosyntax in the WIVD mechanism
As mentioned above, scholars agree on some points that induce initial vowel drop.
The whole material tells us that phonosyntax might as well be responsible for WIVD.
The phonsyntax VCV... dramatically preponderates on WIVD occurrences: alaçık >
laçık, ılıca > lıca, emekle- > mekle-, ınan- > nan-, ısırga > sırga, umutlu > mutlu etc. This
phonosyntax, however, include some exceptions, such as ıltam > ltam, ısmarla-
> smarla-, işte > şte.
Do Turkic linguistic sub-groups have peculiar patterns for WIVD?
Given the syllable number of each word in whole material, it is obvious that Oghuz
and Kipchak sub-groups dramatically differ from each other at syllable number in
any word with WIVD. In the Oghuz sub-group where Turkish and Gagauz instances
are significant in number, the predominant part consists of trisyllabic or polysyllabic
words, whereas disyllabic ones are in minority. As for Kipchak sub-group, even
though there is no preponderance on disyllabic or trisyllabic words, disyllabic words
are not restricted as many as in Oghuz sub-group.
Authenticity of WIVD instances
Some words, after several phonetic developments, might look like that they are
WIVD cases. What causes this as follows:
1) Word-initial metathesis as VCC... > CVC (e.g., ıslıh > sılıh, uksa- > kusa-)
2) Elision of prothetic vowel
The second condition lessens the genuineness of WIVD cases, since prothesis is
characteristic attribute of Turkic languages when they copy a lexeme starting with
/l/ or /r/. For instance, laçın ‘falcon’ is in every scholarly work regarded as a WIVD
instance (as, alaçın/ılaçın > laçın), yet the oldest version of the word is attested as laçın/
lāçın in 8-9th cc. Turkic texts (see Clauson, 1972, p. 763) or flamur ‘linden’ is thought
by Gülensoy (1987, p. 115) to be a WIVD as ıhlamur > flamur, but the word appears
as flamouri in donor language, namely Greek language. Thus, before determining a
word as WVID, one must make sure about each word’s past.

Akhmet Baitursynov, who had an important place in Kazakh intellectual and educational life at the beginning of the 20th century, focused his studies in the field of education and was influential in the restructuring of the Kazakh education system. In addition, Baitursynov, who made efforts to make Kazakh a writing language, studied the alphabet for illiterate people in this direction, prepared textbooks and wrote articles about education. Baytursınulı, who also wrote books on the grammar of Kazakh, was also interested in the topic of Kazakh term derivation. Baitursynov, who also participated in the Turcology Congress held in Baku in 1926 and gave his opinion on the alphabet, has an important place in Kazakh Turcology. The fact that he created a new alphabet by changing the Arabic alphabet according to the sound characteristics of Kazakh is considered to be his greatest service to Kazakh Turkology. The Baitursynov alphabet spread from 1912 onwards, began to be used in madrasas and Kazakh-Russian schools after 1913, and in 1929 it fell out of use due to the fact that Kazakh was written in the Latin alphabet.
Today, this alphabet, which was forgotten in Kazakhstan, is still used by Kazakhs in East Turkestan. The studies on the place of Akhmet Baitursynov in Turkology can be taken back to 1919. Although the first studies were conducted by Russian scientists, important studies on Baitursynov were also revealed in Kazakhstan and a discipline was established. Important studies have been carried out on Akhmet Baitursynov in Turkey as well. It is among the purposes of writing this article to introduce studies on Baitursynov in Turkey.

The National Library of Kazakhstan was established on December 31, 1910, and opened to the general public on March 6, 1911, in Almaty. Named after the Russian writer Alexander Pushkin in 1937, the library was renamed as the Kazakhstan National Library on December 9, 1991. The rare books and manuscripts department contains over 1,000 manuscripts in various languages. Among these, there are manuscripts written in Chaghatay Turkic. However, there is no catalog of the Chaghatay manuscripts within the library. The catalog information of 30 Chaghatay manuscripts registered in the rare books and manuscripts department of the Kazakhstan National Library is provided in this article, coupled with a brief description of these works. Chaghatay manuscripts can be classified as religious and sufistic works, literary works, historical works, and scientific works according to their types. The majority of manuscripts maintain the linguistic features of the late Chaghatay period. This study intends to guide researchers studying the works of the Chaghatay period in Turkestan.

This study deals with the etymology of the Kazakh word zertte- ‘to examine’, ‘to scrutinize’, ‘to evaluate’. On the evidence of the Karakalpak verb izertle- ‘to research’, it is argued that the verb goes back to East Old Turkic eδär- ‘to pursue’, ‘to follow’. Alternative analyses of the suffixes are discussed.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was closely interested in Turkish history and Turkish language. He also gave great importance to Turkish culture in general manner. Furthermore, he attempted to improve and increase culture. He paid attention to language which carries culture and is an important element of culture. He tried to bring specific features as individualism and personality to Turkish language- the features that he aimed to bring to his nation in a republican country which were founded under the name of “Turk” and of which basic element was “culture”. However, reforms about language cannot be reached to the solution with only a few legislations and in a short time. Language studies are related to culture and requires quite a long time. Being aware of the fact that language is the basis of culture, Atatürk extended language studies over a period of time by taking some steps. The steps taken by Atatürk in order to improve and modernize Turkish language are the followings: founding of Institute of Turkic Studies, accepting of New Turkish Alphabet, founding of Turkish Language Investigation Association, organizing Turkish Language Congresses, Sun Language Theory, founding of Language and History-Geography Faculty, reproducing Turkish terms.

The horse has had an important place in Turkish society since ancient times. In Central Asia, the findings from archaeological excavations and horse depictions in rock paintings have been remarkable in terms of showing the place of the horse in the lives of steppe nomads from time immemorial. It is known that the culture of horse riding and horse husbandry spread to different parts of the world from the Central Asian steppes. In the light of today’s information, the domestication process of the horse goes back about a thousand years. The horse was domesticated at a time dated to 2500 BC around the Botai culture in northern Kazakhstan. Horse breeding is extremely important in Kazakhstan, where horse is one of the main food sources. This article encompasses a bibliography of the studies carried out in Kazakhstan on horse breeding and horse culture. Besides the studies mainly in Kazakh language, the pertinent studies in Russian were also included in the study in order to guide researchers for further readings. The bibliography is listed alphabetically by authors’ surname. The article is aimed to guide researchers who will work on issues such as horse culture, horse breeding and horse training in Kazakhstan.

Kazakh, which is in the Kipchak branch of the Turkic language, became a written language in the second half of the 19th century. The first books of Kazakh written language were published with the Arabic alphabet in Kazan, Orenburg, Ufa, Tashkent, St. Petersburg. Kazakh was written in the Arabic alphabet until 1929, in the Latin alphabet between 1929-1940, and it has been written in the Cyrillic alphabet from 1940 until today. It is seen that among the first published Kazakh books written in the Arabic alphabet, the number of epics and religious texts is high. One of the first published books in Kazakh written language is called Kıssa-i Samrug. The book was printed in the city of Kazan in 1898 at the M. A. Chirkov Printing House. The content of the book was compiled by Ali Mahmuduly. This poetic work, consisting of 768 verses, is located at number 59 in the “Books in the Kazakh Language” section of the Rare and Manuscripts Department of the Kazakhstan National Library. The book is one of the oldest printed works among the rare Kazakh books in the National Library of Kazakhstan. The subject of the book is the story between the bird known as Simurg in Iranian mythology and the Prophet Solomon. Chagatay, also called Eastern Turkic, was the common writing and literary language used by the Turkic people in the geography of Turkestan from the 15th century to the end of the 19th century. However, as a result of the project to make each of the Turkic dialects a written language, which was carried out later under the leadership of Ilminskiy, various Turkic written languages emerged in the 20th century. Therefore, the first products of the newly formed Turkic written languages contain traces of the Chagatay. In the work called Kıssa-i Samrug, there are some language features peculiar to Chagatay. In addition to this, some grammatical aspects peculiar to Tatar language draw attention in the text. This suggests that the text may have been translated from Tatar to Kazakh. In this study, the binary usages seen in the work called Kıssa-i Samrug published in Kazakh written in the Arabic alphabet and the process of Kazakh becoming a written language will be examined.

The game, which is one of the oldest social acts of human history, has creative, educational, entertaining and social change triggering aspects. The game, which is older than culture, also laid the groundwork for the formation of culture. Games contribute to the development of mind and culture as well as physical development, allowing children to have a pleasant time. In addition, the game is among the factors that contribute to the development of children research, discovery, trial and error, acting together, analytical thinking and problem solving skills. Games played by children often help them to combine the inner world of the child with social life. Besides, with the help of games, children learn some information about life by doing and living. Games that have appeared in very ancient times reflect society's lifestyle. Early written sources of Turkic such as Divanu Lügati't-Türk and Dede Korkut Stories contain the first information about some children games that are effective in identity development of children and are still played in the Turkic World today. This is remarkable in that it shows that traditional children games contribute to the continuity of culture and establish a connection between the past and the present. There are also educational aspects of children games. For this reason, games are among the applications that are frequently used in children education. For example, nursery rhymes in children games make positive contributions to children's language development. Children comprehend the symbols in the language and the logical sequence of the language through nursery rhymes. At the same time, nursery rhymes, which are rich in terms of vocabulary, develop children's diction and vocabulary. Children games have been classified by researchers in different forms. The horse was the most basic means of transportation for the Kazakh,
who lived a nomadic lifestyle in ancient times and whose basic livelihood was based on animal husbandry. For this reason, Kazakhs attached special importance to horse harnesses. Whip in horse harness is considered sacred by Kazakh. There are many types of whips such as biyşik, selebe, jılanbavır, dırav, doyır, segiz ḳırlı ḳamşı which consist of three basic parts called sap, örim and alaḳan. Şokan Velihanov, considered to be the first Kazakh scientist, stated that the whip was also used as a war tool in ancient times. The use of words such as atjürgiş or atsoğar instead of the word ḳamşı in various dialects of Kazakh is remarkable. According to old Kazakh traditions, a man had to have a whip from the moment he entered puberty. Along with a whip, he should have had a horse and a saddle set. The whip, used as both a fighting instrument and a horse-riding instrument and attributed to sanctity, has had an important place in Kazakh society since time immemorial. In the vocabulary of Kazakh language, phrases related to the whip, word patterns also occupy a very large place. However, in the nomadic Kazakh society, other duties and meanings besides horse riding were also dedicated to whip. In this paper, the words about whip in Kazakh vocabulary, naming whip, traditions, customs and practices relevant to whip in Kazakh society will be included. The vocabulary related to whip was determined by scanning the dictionaries containing the existence of Kazakh words, especially the fifteen volumes of Ḳazaḳ ädebiy tiliniñ sözdigi (QETS), and was presented by translating to Turkish.

The cataloguing of rare and manuscript works in the library corpus and the transfer of these works to the digital platforms have changed the way that various researchers, especially scientists, access and research the information fast. With the developing technology, digitalization studies with cataloguing plays an important role in transferring the common cultural heritage of a nation to future generations. There are a large number of manuscripts and printed works written in various Turkish dialects and carvings in the Rare and Written Works section of the Kazakhstan National Library located in the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan. Among these works are the manuscript works written in Chagatai, such as various works of Ali Şir Nevaî, The Diwan of Saykali, Rahatu'l-Kulub, Tezkiretü'l-Evliyâ, various poetry magazines, and there are also printed Arabic-Ottoman works such as the letters of al-Cezire of Süleyman Nazif, Ahmed Cevdet's Kisas-ı Enbiyâ (and Tevârih-i Hulefa), Ahmet Cevdet's Belagât-ı Osmaniyye, Ahmed Mithad's novels. Some of these Ottoman works were published in places such as Kazan (Tatarstan), Cairo (Egypt), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Orenburg (Russia), St.Petersburg (Russia) and Istanbul (Turkey). There is no specific catalogue of the Kazakhstan National Library Rare and Written Works section, and no digitization work has been done on these rare works so far. In this study, the importance of cataloguing and digitalization in the transfer of cultural heritage from generation to generation will be explained, the unique qualities of the rare works in the Kazakhstan National Library, which we are working on, will be mentioned and the cultural heritage will be emphasized.

In this book, primarily the Kazakh dictionary of fifteen volume, Qazaq Ädebiy Tiliniñ Sözdigi, and the other dictionaries of Kazakh language were scanned, hence the vocabulary about horse harnesses in Kazakh was determined. These words were translated into Turkish and analyzed comparatively in terms of semantics, phonetics, morphology and etymology by using diachronic and syncronic methods. The vocabulary related to horse harnesses of Kazakh language classified as thematically has been compared with the periods of Old Turkic, Kharezmian Turkic, Kipchak, Chagatay and modern Kipchak dialects. The defined concepts are also considered and evaluated in socio-cultural terms. Etymological dictionaries of the Turkic language as well as etymology articles written on that concept were used in the etymological explanations about the words examined. The richness of Kazakh language vocabulary about horse harnesses can be considered as a manifestation of the nomadic lifestyle and steppe culture.

The subject of this study is the examination of astronomy with respect to language which appears to be one of the scientific resources of the Turkish society from the beginning up to 11th century. At the first step of the research, the astronomy terminology of Old Turkish (Kokturkish, Uighurish, Karahan Turkish) was determined; afterwards, these terms were tried to be examined with regard to Phonetics, Semantics, the ways used to form the terms and etymology. The aim of this study is to bring up the Old Turkish etymology terms by examining the Old Turkish period texts and to determine how these terms were formed, to evaluate the starting point of term formation, to examine the terms’ etymological features, and to contribute to the Historic Dictionary of Turkish Language, the studies on the history of astronomy, the struggles for replacing the foreign astronomy terms with the Turkish ones. In this study, the astronomy terms were studied not from the point of a science history expert’s view but from the point of a linguist’s view. In the research, Turkish terms and also astronomy terms quoted from a foreign language in the Old Turkish texts were included.
