Background Healthy lifestyle modifications can prevent hypertension, an early predictor of cardiovascular disease. Yoga is an effective way to manage stress-induced disorders, such as hypertension. Objective This study investigated the effects of yoga training on hypertensive individuals receiving routine treatment over a 12-week period, comparing and analyzing heart rate variability (HRV) parameters at and after the 12-week yoga training period (the 12th week) with hypertensives receiving routine treatment (the non-yoga group). Materials and methods A total of 132 hypertensive subjects between the ages of 25 and 45 were randomly assigned to control or experimental groups (N= 66), and 66 of these subjects were exposed to yoga therapy (N= 66). Before, after, and during the study period, HRV parameters were obtained. Results RM ANOVA was used to compare time domain and frequency domain parameters of HRV of the control group at pre, post, and detrain, and it was found that no significant difference existed between the groups. Test group mean values show a significant increase in time domain parameters compared with pre-training values after training. Test group post-training and detrain values significantly increased when compared to control group post-training and detrain values. Test group detrain values decreased significantly from post-training to test group detrain values. Conclusion: Yoga therapy increases the HRV values in essential hypertension at rest. An increase in vagal modulation, a reduction in sympathetic activity, and an increase in baroreflex sensitivity may be responsible for the harmonization of autonomic cardiovascular rhythms. The results of detraining from yoga did not result in an increase in HRV. As a result, the present study shows that regular yoga practice reduces hypertension, and deep rest keeps the body healthy.

Fatma BAGDATLI CAM, "ANCIENT SETTLEMENTS IN BARTIN PROVINCE: 2017-2019 RESEARCH RESULTS" in: From Paphlagonia to Parthenios I Barin Survey Initial Findings and Documents in 2017 2019, İstanbul, 2022, 13-113. The main purpose of the "Bartın Province Survey" is to identify, document and record the cultural assets that have been preserved within the borders of Bartın Province, and to establish a database for different fields of expertise that will conduct research in the field in the future. The research focuses on two different directions. The first is to determine whether the settlements develop depending on the suitability of the geographical structure and conditions. The other is whether it has developed and changed depending on factors such as climate, changes in geographical conditions, and administrative structuring that affect settlement mobility during the period. We evaluated our research regions as two main regions, thanks to the compatibility of the "coastal Paphlagonia" and "inner Paphlagonia" divisions determined by Strabo for this region, to the topography of Bartın. Although the region, which was called Paphlagonia in the Ancient Period, was evaluated within the borders of Galatia, Bithynia-Pontus provinces in the Roman and Byzantine Periods, we continued to name it as Paphlagonia, since the cultural dependence of the inner parts of the region to the Paphlagon culture has also been proven by the researches conducted in the surrounding regions. The importance of the Bartın/Parthenios River, as the largest river in the region, which has been recognized since the earliest times, in the formation of settlements is undeniable. Considering all these factors, our findings, including our three-year research results, covering the years 2018 and 2019 of the survey that started in 2017, are presented. In this context, the determination of the settlements that existed within the borders of Bartın Province, in the coastal and inner regions from the Chalcolithic Period to the end of the Middle Ages, was realized to the extent permitted by the climate and challenging geography. It has been proven with ceramics of İnönü Cave in Sipahiler Village in the Inner Region and Asartepe settlement in Şahin Village, as well as the quality ceramics of the Tekketepe of Amastris, Gecen Village, Kutlubey Village, that the settlements were similar in density in the coastal and inland areas and concentrated in the hilly areas during the period from the Chalcolithic Period to the Early Iron Age. It is seen that the period from the Archaic Period to the Roman Period still maintains its silence. Information about these periods comes from the written sources and from the Greek settlements in the coastal regions. The number of settlements, which increased in the Roman Period, being more concentrated in the coastal regions, has increased rapidly both in the coastal and inland regions since the Byzantine Period. The settlements that we have recently added to the literature indicate that they were concentrated in caves and hilly areas during the Chalcolithic and Bronze Ages. Sipahiler Village, which was one of the few settlements reflecting the Amastris influence with its quality workmanship and probably in the khora of the city of Amastris in the interior regions during the Roman Period, is important with its findings. In the coastal regions, the existence of Mugada and Güzelcehisar Villages as a port settlement in the Roman Period has been proven, but no settlement name pointing to the Güzelcehisar settlement has been determined. Saraylı Village, Arıönü/Mugada Village can be described as small demos in the Late Roman Periods. Probably the necropolis area and architectural fragments found in Kocareis Village in the inner part of the Bartın Bosphorus (Parthenios) were evaluated as the first clues about the city of Parthenia Kome, and important determinations were made in the area in 2021. The intensity of the cultural heritage of the region has been strengthened since the Byzantine Period, and it has been observed that the same increase in density and quality continued in the Middle Ages, both in the inner regions and in the coastal regions, from the Early Byzantine period. Güzelcehisar and Makaracılar Villages revealed important traces in the determination of early Turkish Period settlements.
