LESSON PLAN Session title Email Writing Date August Location VI Learner group 12 years Duration 2 Units Group size 31 Learning aims A statement which provides the scope of the subject and the overall intent of the course This lesson plan is aimed to provide a platform to students to explore the components of a well-written email and revise the rules of writing emails in English by studying the differences between formal letters, and informal and semi-formal emails. Learning objectives What are learners expected to learn after completing the lesson? These should be specific and able to be assessed. Students will be able to: identify the five main parts of letter/email writing compare and contrast the format of letter writing to that of writing emails proofread a draft of an email Time Content and teacher activity Learner activity Formative assessment Learning materials and resources How are you explaining and illustrating the topic? What are the learners doing to help them understand the topic? How do you plan to assess learning as it is happening? What resources will you use that will support the teaching and learning activities? 5 mint → Teacher will ask the students what factors are important for them when they are choosing a holiday (e.g. weather, accommodation, activities, costs, culture, food, history etc.) → Teacher will Ask students where they usually get information about a holiday destination (e.g. guidebooks, Internet, recommendations from friends) Student responses would be taken by the teacher. Student’s understanding. 20 m → Teacher will ask the students if they are habitual of writing emails or letters. → Teacher will divide the class the group of two. Group A would consists of the students who are already aware about emails and using them. Group B would consists of the students who prefer to write letters instead of writing an email. → Turn by turn each group would be asked to share their opinion regarding the way of communication (email or letter) they prefer to use. → After the discussion teacher will play a video. → Students would be sharing their opinions. → Students would be watching the video. PPT 15 m →Teacher will discuss the Do’s and Don’t’s of an email. → Contents of writing an email would be reviewed by asking some random questions. → Student’s responses would be taken by the teacher. Students understanding would be judged. 25 m Writing Task Task 1(Formal) You are a project manager and you took the help of Billy, an additional resource, to complete the task in time. Write a "Thank You" email to Billy appreciating his timely help including the below phrases in the email. Task 2 (Informal) You are invited for your best friend's wedding but you are traveling onsite on the same day. Write an email to your best friend congratulating the couple and apologizing for not attending his/her wedding.  Use as many rows in the table as applicable – add rows if necessary H.W: Students would be asked to write an email to your teacher in order to share the difficulties they have been facing in online classes. Note: Teacher would be replying to the received email. Lesson Evaluation: Include what you feel went well and what you would like to improve.
