The Cell Potential

The cell potential is the measure of the potential difference between two half cells in an electrochemical cell. The potential difference is caused by the ability of electrons to flow from one half cell to the other cell. In this article, we derive the cell potential by a direct application of the chemical thermodynamics. In this derivation, law of mass action, the chemical thermodynamics, and the electrochemistry concepts play central roles.
