Socialisation is a processes with the help of which a living organism is changed into a social being. It is a process through which the younger generation learns the adult role which it has to play subsequently. It is a continuous process in the life of an individual and it continues from generation to generation. Socialisation stands for the development of the human brain, body, attitude, behaviour and so forth. From the point of view of society, socialisation is the way through which society transmits its culture from generation to generation and maintains itself. From the point of view of the individual, socialisation is the process by which the individual learns social behaviour, develops his 'self.
ABSTRACT Name: Fernandez, Dianne L. Title: Perception on Gender Identity of Confused High School Students of Los Baños Community National High School, School Year 2011-2012 Key Concepts: Gender Identity and Perception Degree: Master of Education Specialization: Guidance and Counseling Adviser: Dr. Priscila B. Dizon Statement of the Problem The main purpose of this investigation is to study the perception on gender identity of confused high school male and female students. Specific Objectives 1. To know the perceptions of confused high school students about: a. Rights of a Person b. Feelings c. Relationships d. Attitudes 2. To determine the factors that influences their perceptions. Methodology The researcher used a mixed of quantitative and qualitative method to determine the factors that influence the perception on gender identity of confused high school students of Los Baños Community National High School S.Y. 2010-2011. This method is a combination of analyzing statistical treatment and interviews and for questionnaires answered by the respondents. The study was conducted at Los Baños Community National High School, where the researcher is a teacher and assistant guidance counselor. This school is one of the two national high school found in Los Baños Laguna, with 1577 high school students. Most of the students are from Calamba and other barangay in Los Banos. It is situated in Brgy. Timugan, Jamboree Road, Los Baños, Laguna. The researcher used three instruments in knowing the perceptions of the confused male and female high school students. The BEM Sex Role Inventory, Self-Made Questionnaire and Interview. Frequency and percentage were computed to determine the occurrence of responses. Frequency as defined by Lane (2007) as the number of observations falling into each of several ranges of values. Percentage as defined by Lane (2007) is a value out of one hundred FINDINGS Based on the study the following results were established: A. Rights of a Person 1. Right to discrimination did not experience from parents. 2. Right to privacy did not experience from siblings and friends. 3. Right to security as a person did not experience from classmates. 4. Right to freedom of speech wanted to experience from parents. 5. Right to privacy wanted to experience from their siblings. 6. Right to discrimination, right to life and the right security as a person wanted to experience from their classmates. 7. Right to freedom of speech and right to privacy wanted to experience from their friends. B. Feelings 1. Most of the respondents were hurting whenever people were making fun of them. C. Relationships 1. Most of the respondents were accepted by their family and schoolmates. 2. Most of them did not know the opinion of the society about them. 3. Most of them were both close to their both parents. 4. Most of them liked books and puzzles as their toys. 5. Most of them chose dolls and it’s clothes were the toys they wanted to keep. 6. Most of them were not choosy in playing with their friends. 7. Most of them were with female and male cousins as their buddy. D. Feelings 1. Most of them thought that when two males or two females were together they have a relationship. 2. Most of them answered that they were not scolded because of being a confused adolescent. 3. Most of them answered they did not know, if they were a homosexual or not. 4. Most of them answered they believe that will change because their present status is not permanent. 5. Most of them answered that they can change as their perception in gender identity. 6. Most of them answered that they knew they have a relative who were homosexuals. 7. Most of them answered that the environment was the factor that influenced their behavior. CONCLUSIONS Based on the findings the following conclusions were made: 1. The right of every individual is very important in dealing with other people. 2. Sensitivity to the feelings of an individual shall be taken into consideration. 3. Confused high school students were close to their both parents. 4. Gender identity can change in due time. 5. Gender identity can be hereditary. 6. Confused high school students were accepted by their family inspite of the patriarchial society. 7. Confused adolescents cannot directly say that they are homosexuals or not. 8. Gender identity can be affected by the environment. RECOMMENDATIONS After a thorough analysis of data, the following recommendations are hereby made: 1. Respecting the right of every individual can be a great help to all confused adolescents and homosexuals in expressing themselves freely. 2. A good guidance program like gender development can be of help to all confused adolescents to guide them in deciding who they really are. 3. This study can help gays and lesbians in realizing that gender identity and gender role can be transitory. 4. Judging a confused adolescent can be avoided by understanding their feelings and insights. 5. This study can also begin future researches about homosexuals, specifically to the confused adolescents by trying to figure out what components of the environmental factors really influenced the behavior of a confused individual.
