Öz Postmodern edebiyatın Türkiye'deki önemli yazarlarından olan Bilge Karasu, 1950'de başladığı yazın yaşamı boyunca roman, öykü, deneme, şiir, çeviri, eleştiri, mektup, libretto ve radyo oyunu türlerinde eserler üretir. Ağırlıklı olarak roman ve öykü türünde yazan; gerek kurmaca gerek kurmaca dışı eserlerinde yazın adına yapılabilecekleri araştıran ve uygulamaya koyan Karasu'nun yapıtı, dur durak bilmeyen bir arayışın bireyselden evrensele uzanan çerçevedeki sonuçlarıdır. Çalışmada, duygu ve düşünce dünyasını alışılagelmiş tema ve kurgulardan sıyrılarak özgün bir üslûpla dile getiren Bilge Karasu'nun romanları (Gece, Kılavuz, Narla İncire Gazel, Altı Ay Bir Güz) yapı unsurlarından olan zaman bakımından incelendi. Yazarın üstkurmaca nitelikli romanlarında, metinlerin biçim ve biçem özelliklerini de etkileyen zaman kategorisinin hem niceliksel hem niteliksel açılımlarıyla tespit edilip değerlendirilmesi, gerçek-kurgu düzlemindeki yansımalarının açığa çıkarılması amaçlandı. Abstract Bilge Karasu, one of the most important writers of postmodern literature in Turkey, produced works such as novels, short stories, essays, poems, translations, letters, libretto, and sketches during his literary life that started in 1950. Karasu, who mainly writes novel and short story, investigates and implements what can be done for literature in his fictional and non-fictional works. His works of art are results of this relentless search from individual to universal. In the present study, the novels of Bilge Karasu (Night, Guide, Ode to Pomegranate and Fig, Six Months One Autumn), which expresses the world of emotions and thoughts by using a unique style instead of usual themes and fictions, were examined in terms of time from one of structure elements of novel. It is aimed to determine and evaluate time category, which affects texts' form and style characteristics, with both quantitative and qualitative expansions and to release this category's reflections on a reality-fiction plane in Bilge Karasu's novels which have metafictional feature. Abstract: Early Modern Europe witnessed the emergence of more centralised states as a consequence of socio-political, economic and religious turmoil. Since Renaissance and Reformation, it has been commonly held that Stoic philosophy has offered much more solid solutions to the problems of the crises in Western societies rather than the other philosophical schools of the Antiquity. This paper argues that the discourses shaped by references to the thinkers identified with Neo-Stoicism steered the course of intellectual discussions as well as political and intellectual programmes in this period. Besides, the place and influence of Neo-Stoicism, as an ancient philosophical school, in the formation of early modern central states should be emphasized. Key Words: Antiquity, Neo-Stoicism, Justus Lipsius, Seneca, Tacitus, Renaissance, Reformation.
Anahtar Kelimeler: Bilge Karasu, Derrida, Konukseverlik, ev-metin, yazınsal konukseverlik Abstract: One of the ways to think about the relationship between philosophy and literature is hospitality. Hospitality, philosophically, developed by Jacques Derrida, passing through Emmanuel Kant and Emmanuel Levinas. Hospitality, defined / conceptualized by Derrida, is a thought that can exist in a possibility that is almost impossible. Ethics and politics are underlying thoughts of hospitality. This article, tries to think Bilge Karasu’s novels (Gece and Kılavuz) via Derrida’s thought of hospitality. The thought of hospitality can be handled with respect to both ethics and politics. The relationship between hospitality and Karasu’s novel can be examined on two levels. On the first level, traces of the thought of hospitality in the relationship between characters will be analyzed in Gece and Kılavuz by Bilge Karasu. This relationship will be examined both in its ethical and political aspects. On the second level, these novels will be evaluated according to literary hospitality, that is the novels will be examined by the relationships between the narrator(s), narratee, the writer and the reader. The ethical aspect of the hospitality will be thought related to Kılavuz and political dimension of hospitality will be examined via Gece. The main argument of this article is that Bilge Karasu have written novels that can be analyzed with the thought of hospitality and Karasu is a hospitable writer. Keywords: Bilge Karasu, Derrida, Hospitality, Home-text, literary hospitality
Metafiction which constitutes one of the characteristics of postmodern novel and means the use of process through which the text is written as the fiction of the text, draws attention as one of the main features of Bilge Karasu literary. The narrator can be easily seen in the metafiction in the text and s/he shows us the fictional side of the text by staying inside of the text. The main characters in four of Karasu's five novels is the writer of the novel at the same time and each of these characters writes a story, memory or novel in the narratives. The text written by the main character mostly constitutes the narrative in our hands. These characters in the narratives, who are writers as well, form the text on the one hand and on the other hand they share their views related to wri-ting/text/fiction. They use the technique of writing a novel as an input in order to make the fictional side of the text clear. Night is composed of the pieces written by four different narrators to a common notebook. By this way, the outline of the novel becomes the novel's itself. That is, Night gains existence by writing itself. Guide is also a book composed of the texts written by the main character. One of the characteristics that make Guide different from known realist novels is its metafictional aspect existing above the fictional side of the narrative. Karasu not only uses a piece from the sixth chapter of his novel named Six Months One Autumn with some additions in the ‚Introduction‛ part of the Ode to Pomegranate and Fig; he also stresses that he did this in the text. The frequent use of the fictions linked with writing and text is also seen in this novel. This study aims to analyze the novels of Bilge Karasu in terms of metafiction as a postmodern element by trying to identify metafictional characteristics in these novels.
The absence of unity in the place, the domination of eclectic understanding, the presence of hyperspace are the hallmarks of the space of the postmodern era. Especially the developments in the field of information and technology are the main reasons for the formation of this new space concept. The boundary between spaces disappearance with technological development. The invention of radio and television accelerates the intercultural transitivity. These social developments are directly reflected in art and literature. Postmodern writers do not establish spaces that have definite boundaries and can be defined by clear features. İnstead of that, They adopt a new concept given the name "collage space". In this new understanding, it is witness to the side of spaces that are not thought to be side by side. The concepts of hyperspace and cyberspace are other concepts used to describe the space conception of the postmodern era. Especially the invention of the internet makes the existence of such places inevitable. Postmodern time is not a structure that has its boundaries defined and flows in a row. On the contrary, there is a sense of time that can not be determined, spiral, intertwined. Bilge Karasu applies postmodern space and time in his works like Night, Guide, “İsland”, “Store”, “A Medieval Dervish”.
Postmodernizm, modern yaşamın bireyden aldığı değerleri sorgulama, elinden alınanlara uzanma, varoluş kaynaklarına dönme, büyüsü bozulan hayatta tutunmaya çalışma projesidir. Modernizmden etkilenen ancak farklılık gösteren bu proje, modernizmin insanı yok eden, ben’i ikinci plâna atan söylemine karşı ben’i ön plâna çıkarır.
