It opens with an outline of the history of the southernmost province of Egypt in Antiquity, in order to contextualize the funerary remains found in Qubbet el-Hawa. is is followed by a historic and archaeological description of the discovery of Qubbet el-Hawa by various scholars and of the research programme carried out by the current Spanish mission to develop its multidisciplinary project. e volume also includes subsidiary lines of research, focusing on the conservation of the site and the local development resulting from the valorisation of this heritage. One of the main contributions of the present work is the publication of the historical and archaeological results, updated and reinterpreted, together with the latest works produced by the multidisciplinary team. ' e publication of this new data is very important for the knowledge of this period and region of Egypt. … All specialists in the pharaonic period and in particular the Middle Kingdom will be interested.' Dr Gwenola Gra , Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD-France) ' e ten years of work carried out in the Qubbet el-Hawa necropolis highlight the use of advanced technologies at the disposal of Egyptology. … e multidisciplinary work of the Jaén mission … is an example to follow in the analysis of ancient Egyptian heritage. … e results of the epigraphic study shed a particularly new light on the political history of the Elephantine region, which is of great interest to the scientii c community.' Dr Gersande Eschenbrenner Diemer, Institute of Archaeology, University College London 'Previous publications [of material from this site] do not achieve the comprehensive and complete view adopted and o ered in this book. … [It] brings new ideas on the conn guration of regional power during the Twell h Dynasty. Such a re-evaluation of the political, economic, and social developments in the site will be welcome.' Prof. Antonio J. Morales, Universidad de Alcalá

The 2017–2018 seasons in Dra Abu el-Naga primarily focused on the documentation of all accessible architectural and archaeological structures in the so-called Area H, located in the middle of the foothills in the north-eastern part of the Theban Necropolis (modern name Dra Abu el-Naga). Area H is the location of two widely visible landmarks: the remains of the mud-brick pyramid of king Nub-Kheper-Ra Intef (late 17th Dynasty, ca. 1580 BC), and the large twelve-pillared ‘Saff’ tomb no. 232 (TT 232, early 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 BC). The surrounding area is characterized by an unusually large number of earlier, contemporary and later tombs and tomb shafts. For documentation purposes, both above and below ground, the structure from motion technique has been used.

The institute's archaeological work in the necropolis of Draʿ Abu el-Naga was temporarily concluded in 2017. The 2017–2018 seasons in the field primarily focused on the documentation of all accessible architectural and archaeological structures in Area H in Draʿ Abu el-Naga, the north-eastern part of the Theban Necropolis.
