Abstract
On October 15, 1922, Mary (born Princess Marie Alexandra Victoria of
Edinburgh; October 29, 1875 – July 18, 1938) and Ferdinand I of
Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (August 24, 1865 – July 20, 1927) were crowned as queen and king of the unitary Romanian national state of the Romanians.in a purpose-built cathedral in the ancient city of Alba Iulia, in an elaborate ceremony, with great pomp, in a specific Orthodox Byzantine style that reflected their centuries-long status.
Queen Mary was a great leader. She brought Romania invigoration and
modernism, in all fields. As queen, she was very popular, both in Romania and abroad.
After the coronation in Alba Iulia, on October 15, 1922, alongside King
Ferdinand, as sovereigns of Great Romania, or alone, or accompanied by
Princess Ileana, Queen Maria made official visits to Western Europe, the
United States of America, Egypt and Levant as a true „diplomat-queen”.
The synchronicity made that only two weeks later, on November 4th, 1922 has started the archaeological excavations of what will be the greatest
Egyptological discovery of the 20th century - that of the tomb of the pharaoh Tutankhamun -, by two well-known British personalities (just like Queen Mary!): the Egyptologist archaeologist Howard Carter and Lord George Edward Stanhope Molyneux Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon, an Egyptology enthusiast and the sponsor of the final excavation campaign of to Howard Carter. Eight years later, these two international historical events with tremendous significance would be united by two of the main royal characters of the moment - two "ambassadors", the living Queen Mary of Romania and the late pharaoh Tutankhamun - who would meet and united Romania and Egypt in eternity.
Between February 26 and March 21, 1930, Queen Mary will travel along
Egypt, where, invited by the archaeologists of Harvard Camp, will be
photographed in the company of some illustrious personalities, including the well-known archaeologist George Reisner.

Proceedings of the Conference Held 25-27 September 2020, Hyperion University, Bucharest, Romania Journal of Ancient Egyptian Interconnections June-september, Vols 38-39 Edited by Renata G. Tatomir, Kei Yamamoto, Pearce Paul Creasman From the Introduction: "The mission of this international conference was to unite, on the one hand, specialists of international stature in the field of Egyptology as well as interdisciplinary fields (archaeology, Classics, architecture etc.) in order to present through their research a successful model of the ancient Egyptian civilization for the current European civilization; and, on the other hand, to create the premises for new and rare university and research programs that are not found in other universities in Romania, to stimulate among young people scientific curiosity and research, according to the model of current developed Western states, and, as such, to contribute to Romania's integration in the European and Western academic and university structures." https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C87QQDM9?ref_=pe_3052080_397514860

Perspectives of Research, IKSIOPAN, Harrasowitz, 2023, pp. 165-182; plates 242-246
Abstract: This paper deals with the presentation of the amulets section of the Egyptian objects fund belonging to the former Museum of Antiquities of Bucharest, currently the homonymous sector within the "Vasile Parvan'' Institute of Archaeology of Bucharest, Romania. The paper begins with a brief history of how the National Museum of Antiquities (NMA) was founded in 1864 by decree no. 1648 of the 25th of November 1864, issued by the Prince Alexandru loan Cuza of the Romanian Principalities. Then, enriched by numerous and various private collections and field investigations, the NMA evolved and was developed as an important archaeological institution. Currently, the NMA is a sector within the "Vasile Parvan" Institute of Archaeology of Bucharest of the Romanian Academy.
The sector houses prestigious collections of antiquities ranging from prehistoric, ancient and medieval artefacts, to those of the numismatic cabinet. Of these pieces, there are about 151 Egyptian antiquities mostl acquired through the donations of well-known Romanian private collectors (such as Papazoglu Ma ros, Butculescu, Len§, Solacolu etc.) during the second half of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century.
A short chapter is dedicated to the collectors-donors and their collections of Egyptian antiquities, which today constitute the Egyptian objects Fund of the institute.
The following chapter is dedicated to a detailed presentation of the sub-collection of amulets o·f this fund. Among the artefacts of the Egyptian objects found there are 45 funerary amulets mo tl dated to the Late Period. The chapter begins with a general presentation of the amulets and continue b providing a preliminary catalogue of them. It contains a detailed description of each type of amulet a well as of each piece in the sub-collection.

The ‘Vasile Pârvan’ Institute of Archaeology in Bucharest, through its integrated sector, the National Museum of Antiquities, has a small collection of 151 ancient Egyptian artefacts. Between the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, the collection was established and developed through donations from Romanian private collectors. The study of this collection will provide a more in-depth insight at issues such as: the stages of its formation, the interests of collectors regarding the purchase of Egyptian antiquities during the above-mentioned period, the types and categories of Egyptian artifacts.

Here is my contribution (my point of view) - the English version - regarding the controversial new Netflix production about Queen Cleopatra of Egypt, who is portrayed as a warrior African queen. Which has nothing to do with the true origin of Cleopatra. Cleopatra VII Philopator was NOT of Egyptian origin.
I express my gratitude to the renowned Egyptian journalist, Mr. Ramy Nawar, (recently appointed Golden Globes international voter at Hollywood Foreign Press Association) for providing me with the opportunity to historically correct the new image - a false one! - about Queen Cleopatra VII Philopator of Egypt;
an image that the producers of Netflix want to induce to their public, just to convey a politically correct and trendy message, but, unfortunately, without being interested in respecting the historical truth, based on authentic historical-archaeological and epigraphic evidence, as well as on representations of Cleopatra VII Philopator from the era.

CALL FOR PAPERS IN EGYPTOLOGY AND PARTICIPATION!!!
INSTITUTE OF MEDITERRANEAN AND ORIENTAL CULTURES - POLISH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
President of the Conference: Associate Professor PhD Joanna Popielska-Grzybowska
All scholars with an interest in all aspects of Egyptology are cordially invited to participate in the Tenth European Conference of Egyptologists. Egypt 2023: Perspectives of Research (X ECE). The conference will be held at the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland, from the 12th to the 16th of June 2023.
Some Words on History of the ECE conferences:
The three first symposia of what was then the “Central European Conference of Young Egyptologists” were held in Warsaw in 1999, 2001 and 2004. They were initiated by Andrzej Ćwiek, Joanna Kociankowska and Joanna Popielska-Grzybowska. The Conference was then organised in Budapest in 2006 and in Pułtusk in 2009, while the last three meetings took place in Cracow, in Zagreb, in Lisbon (respectively in 2012, 2015 and 2017), and the last one as an on-line event in 2021 in Trieste.
The original title was due to the fact that the first Conference was held in Poland. In the past few years, however, the organising countries and the nationalities of the participants have varied so much, that it is now time to recognise officially that this is a European gathering, based on the same principles of equality, sharing, and cooperation that have inspired the organisers.
As in the previous editions, the conference is also open to the young generations of Egyptologists (MA required), who will have a great opportunity for sharing their research with more experienced scholars, in an environment that will hopefully stimulate the growth and refinement of our discipline.
The main focus is currently undergoing research in all fields of Egyptology, such as:
✓ history and chronology from prehistory to the Arab conquest
✓ archaeological research
✓ artefacts (analysis, interpretation, iconography, typology etc)
✓ museum collections
✓ language and literature
✓ art
✓ mythology and religion
✓ anthropology, forensic and radiological research
Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures
POLISH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
✓ archaeobotany, palaeozoology and palaeoecology
✓ history of Egyptology
✓ Aegyptiaca, Egyptomania and reception of ancient Egypt
Each presentation shall last 20 minutes. The official language of the conference is English.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is the 31st of December 2022, with notification of acceptance by the 1st of February 2023. Abstracts should consist of no more than 500 words and should also contain 3 to 5 keywords. Please send the application to: egyptological.conferences.ECE@iksio.pan.pl

Deir el-Shelwît is the current name of a small Egyptian temple dedicated to the goddess Isis and dated to the Roman period of ancient Egypt (Aegyptus province). It is located on the western bank of the Nile, in Luxor, 1 km away from the site of the ruins of the Malkata palace of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, and about 4 km south of the Pharaoh Ramses III Funeral Temple from Medinet Habu. Today, all that is left of this small temple is the main building, of small size, and the ruins of the monumental entrance, together with the enclosure wall, of brick, and the well. The exterior walls do not have a wide decoration, but inside the reliefs are well preserved. The temple dates from the reigns of kings Hadrianus and Antonious Pius, and the ruined pylon bears the inscriptions of Vespasianus, Domitian and Otho. The importance of the temple is, on the one hand, the fact that in this area the religious constructions of the Graeco-Roman era are rare, being the only one associated here with Isis; and, on the other hand, its relief is similar to that of the temples at Dendera and Philae, from the Greco-Roman era. Moreover, on the walls of the temple and on the pillar you can see the cartouches with inscriptions in hieroglyphs, with the names of the Roman emperors Hadrianus, Antoninus Pius, Galba, Otho, Vespasianus.

November 4th (Friday) – 5th (Saturday), 2022 online, on Google Meet
In 2022 the history of Egyptology is marked by two brilliant anniversary events, reasons for festive celebrations by Egyptologists all around the world.
September 27th - The bicentenary of the Jean-François Champollion’s major breakthrough in decoding the hieroglyphic system, as a result of the deciphering of the Egyptian signs carved on the Rosetta Stone.
November 4th - The centenary of the discovery by British archaeologist and Egyptologist Howard Carter of the sealed, intact tomb of pharaoh Tutankhamun, a momentous point in Egypt’s illustrious three-millennium history.
In the framework of these international festivities, and based on our academic partnership, the Romanian and Polish researchers from Hyperion University in Bucharest, Romania (Department of Social and Natural Sciences) and the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures of the Polish Academy of Science (IMOC PAS) are honoured to invite all those interested to participate in an academic event that will mark the celebration of the two historical moments and their makers in the very centenary and bicentenary days.

Book description
The fascination of ancient Egyptian civilization lies in its more than three millennia unparalleled achievements. Their main cultural and ideological building-blocks around which a whole complex mythology was woven were: 1) the existence of the divine that pervades the universe through countless manifestations; 2) the emphasis on the belief in the existence of life after death, viewed as a natural process continuation of terrestrial life of the deceased in the invisible realms of the gods. All the ancient Egyptian great inventions and creations are scientifically, artistically and religiously circumscribed to this approach. The beauty of its culture combines in a perfect way the functionality of its art intertwined with its higher aestheticism, all understood as ways to preserve in eternity through materials of high durability the individual essence, the personality, as well as the natural and man-made forms.
The book will be structured in three parts, corresponding to the three themes in the title - The Faces of Life - The Faces of Death - The Faces of Afterlife - and each, will follow chronologically - From Early Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period (ca. 3150 – 30 BCE) – the historical and cultural evolution of each topic.
The term “face” here denotes aspects, representations, manifestations etc. in the general and in the particular way.
Generally, the chapters must stick to the historical-chronological evolution of the ancient Egyptian civilization.
As the title says, the book aims to present the natural and historical process starting with the activities, ideology, mentality, achievements in the first stage - life - continuing with activities, rituals, funerary ideology and related innovations - death - and ending with beliefs, vision, symbols and representations in the last stage - afterlife.
Contributors are encouraged to develop one or more chapters and subchapters that they must present starting from the general to the particular, exemplifying and illustrating them through relevant achievements from a historical-archaeological, scientific, cultural, religious, artistic and architectural point of view.
Priority will be given to those chapter proposals that present and analyze in-depth, on the one hand, technologies or innovations developed by the ancient Egyptians, and, on the other hand, current technologies developed by researchers with which Egyptian artifacts can be analyzed and enhanced as parts of the universal heritage.
Form
Each chapter must initially have an abstract of no more than 500 words and 5 keywords.
Each chapter must include two obligatory sections.
The first section of the chapter must present generalities preceding the chosen topic - framing in the period, presentation of the period and its important features through which it was distinguished from a historical, ideological, religious, cultural point of view, etc.
The second section of the chapter may present, for instance, a relevant case. E.g., an important historical character, famous either for one’s achievements in life, or for one’s funerary inventory (or just an artifact - a coffin or a sarcophagus, etc.) of one’s tomb, or for both.
The bibliography must be included at the end of each chapter.
The Book will be published by an international publishing house.

Abstract: The object E 67 belongs to the Ancient Egyptian Fund in the collections of the “Vasile Pârvan” Institute of Archaeology in Bucharest. It is a singular piece, a wooden ushabti‑box whose funerary utility was to house the statuettes of funerary servants of shabti/shawabti/ushabti type. The lid of the funerary casket is missing. From the inventory records we learn only that it comes from the Mihail C. Sutzu donation (made sometime after 1870). Therefore, it is impossible to determine from which site the piece originates. Furthermore, its typological classification and the identity of its owner are rather problematic, and as a result, this severely affects the possibility of exact dating. The wooden ushabti‑box has been whitewashed then polychrome painted, and it still displays a hieroglyphic inscription which runs continuously, in columns, from right to left, on each of its four outer sides. The inscription consists of the offering formula addressed to several funerary deities: Osiris‑Khenti‑amentiw, Atum, Ptah‑Sokar‑Osiris, Ra‑Horakhty, Wennen‑nefer, Geb.
The inscription is recorded in semi‑cursive hieroglyphic writing. The text is deteriorated to a significant extent, so that in some places the proposed reading can be reconstructed based on the information provided by similar offering formulas, due to the presence of relatively standardized expressions, or by association with other known formulas. In a few other cases, the difficulty of deciphering the inscription is caused by the fact that some hieroglyphs are drawn either extremely cursively, or it is possible that the scribe himself has confused the signs, or they are erased or partially damaged. This is the case of the back curved and shorter side 2 and front curved and shorter side 4 respectively, on which it can be noticed the quite visible traces of some erased hieroglyphs, as well as some other hieroglyphs which have been drawn carelessly.
The inscription mentions the female name of the owner, Dd‑mwt‑i(w).s‑anx. This is a common name during the Third Intermediate Period (the 21st Dynasty and later), if we were to mention here only the case of a well‑known feminine character, the homonymous Priestess with the high rank of Chantress of the God Amun and Chief of Amun’s Harem of Thebes. The tomb where she is interred, MM60, is located at Deir el‑Bahari, in the Theban Necropolis, on the west bank of the Nile in current Luxor. It is also the burial place of several high‑ranking individuals dating to the 21st Dynasty. However, our current information does not suggest any connection between Dd‑mwt‑i(w).s‑anx, the feminine owner of the ushabti‑box E 67 from the “Vasile Pârvan” Institute of Archeology in Bucharest, and the 21st Dynasty homonymous Priestess of Amun in Thebes.
Inscripția menționează numele feminin al proprietarei, Dd‑mwt‑i(w).s‑anx.

In 332 Alexander the Great freed Egypt from the heavy-handed Persian yoke. The Egyptians welcomed him as a liberator, thus Alexander faced no resistance from the autochthonous population. After his death, in 323 BCE, his empire was divided among his generals. Egypt was given to Ptolemy I Soter, whose descendants would give Egypt her final royal dynasty, while Alexandria became the capital of the new Ptolemaic kingdom of Egypt. The country would remain under Greek rule for nearly three centuries to come (323 – 30 BCE).
During this time, the Ptolemaic Dynasty set up a powerful and intricate bureaucratic system in Egypt, which could serve not only the needs of the royal house, but also dealt with the complexities resulting from an increasingly multi-ethnic society. This change in leadership impacted Egyptian society and administration and implicitly its legal system. Ptolemaic Egypt was a multicultural and multilingual society to which immigrants came from all over the Eastern Mediterranean. The Macedonians did not attempt to suppress the legal traditions of the Egyptians. The Ptolemies instituted a highly hierarchical and efficient bureaucratic system, all aspects of which ultimately served the primary goal of generating production and revenue. During the Ptolemaic rulers, Egypt consisted of two main population categories: immigrants (from the Greek and the Hellenistic world) and Egyptians. The two groups were each allowed to employ their own court system: in the dikasteria, Greek judges heard cases involving Greek immigrants; the Egyptian laokritai judged cases involving Egyptians.
While during the New Kingdom the Egyptian judicial system consisted of institutions called qenbet (equating the municipal councils, the courts, and the supreme court), the Ptolemaic dikasterion was a court originally created to settle disputes among Greek immigrants in accordance with a programme laid out by Ptolemy II Philadelphus. In addition, the city of Alexandria possessed its own legal system and courts
Focusing on these different kinds of courts, of the Greek immigrants, and of the Egyptian natives this paper attempts to reveal some of their main characteristics.

The present study aims to present a special part of the pieces from the collections of the Vasile Pârvan Institute of Archaeology of Bucharest, that is the ancient Egyptian funerary figurines (9.26-0D9.2B26-0D79.26-0) coming from the antiquarian donations. While there were some early attempts at doing preliminary descriptions of some of the objects of this ind, hitherto this is the first in-depth study which investigates on multiple levels these funerary figurines.
The Romanian antiquarian collections including ancient Egyptian artifacts and now belonging to the Vasile Pârvan Institute of Archaeology are dated around the middle of the 19th century. The beginning was made by the National Museum of Antiquities of Bucharest, founded in 1864 by the Prince Alexandru Ioan Cua.
According to the 1906 catalogue of the National Museum of Antiquities in Bucharest published by its director, archaeologist Grigore G. Tocilescu, in the cabinet no. 3 in Hall No. 1, also named Mavros Hall, on seven boards there were cult objects from the following collections (chronologically): General Nicolae Mavros, Cear Bolliac, Earl Scarlat Rosetti, Mihail ogălniceanu, and Procopie Casotti. Among these, Tocilescu recorded 151 Egyptian objects to which he gave brief descriptions but upon closer observation most of these descriptions turned out to be rather inaccurate.
Also, he provided no further details about these pieces belonging to the respective collections except those at positions 29-40, donated by Procopie Casotti in 1890. It is nown that the Mavros donation included a small sie collection of Egyptian antiquities (including scarabs, statuettes, amulets, and liely a fragment of basalt sarcophagus).
Colonel Dimitrie Papaoglu made also an important donation of a rich archaeological material which, according to the inventory of donations, included a number of Egyptian pieces.
Other significant donations of Egyptian antiquities made in the second half of the 19th century included those of Scarlat Rosetti, Nicolae retulescu, captain I. Horovit (Orovet). After 1906 the fund of Egyptian objects has increased due to the additions from the collections Len, Solacolu, Sutu, Orghidan (the Romanian Academy collection).
Currently, there is a fund of 151 Egyptian objects in the collections of the Vasile Pârvan Institute of Archaeology of Bucharest. The pieces come from various antiquarian private collections, and cover different inds of media and styles: 32:052,071; ceramic and alabaster vessels; plastic (statuettes of mummiform or
predominantly mummiform funerary servants – of 9.26-0D9.2B26-0D79.26-0 type and fragments of 9.26-0 mummiform % legs); brone statuettes (representing oomorphic gods); integral or fragmentary anthropomorphic and oomorphic
statuettes of deities, having mainly funerary destination, as well as magical and religious one; scarabs; amulets with funerary destination, in mummiform context; of mummiform and cultic context type; adornments (neclaces; bead/axle dis); int pieces; mummies of birds and a fragment of a human mummy (the hand of a woman with a scarab ring), as well as ecofacts (a septarian spheroidal geological formation or a septarian nodule, very similar to a scarab; carcasses of dates).
The collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts of the Vasile Pârvan Institute of Archaeology of Bucharest includes 31 funerary figurines of the 9.26-0D9.2B26-0D79.26-0 type, to which is added one 9.26-0B container covering a period
extending from the New ingdom to the Ptolemaic period. Needless to say, being purchased from dealers by the aforementioned collectors, the history comprising the way of acquisition and the provenance of these 31 funerary figurines also still remains unnown.
The author’s approach is to put in concordance the results of Egyptological research about funerary figurines with the information obtained from the analysis of the thirty-one pieces in the collections of the Vasile Pârvan Institute of Archaeology. This is why the study contains detailed pictures of each figurine, particularly because a substantial part of them have hieroglyphic inscriptions.
Although extensive, the present study is just the first part of a much larger volume which will include the detailed catalogue descriptions of all Egyptian pieces in the collections of the Vasile Pârvan Institute of Archaeology.
The authors aim is to provide an accurate description as detailed as possible of each object, to integrate it from a historical, chronological, societal and stylistic point of view in the wider framewor of the ancient Egyptian artifacts of the same type and, as far as possible, to identify the original owners (the ancient Egyptian ones) of these funerary goods and to contribute to the reconstitution of their funerary treasure, and by means of this, of their role and status in the ancient Egyptian society. Last but not least, another goal would be the identification of the route of origin of the
antiquarian type of acquisition.
The study is structured in two main parts, starting from general to specific. The first part is a synthetic presentation of the funeral components as guarantors of immortality and of the history of the funerary statuettes of 9.26-0D9.2B26-0D
79.26-0 type. This section is essential for understanding of the role of the funerary figurines of this ind in the ancient Egyptian society. The second one is a catalogue of the funerary figurines of this type in the Vasile Pârvan Institute of Archaeology of Bucharest. To integrate them into the general existing typology, two criteria of classification of the figurines were followed: the chronology and the presence or the absence on their bodies of any inscription. In this way the details of each piece will give scientists deeper insights into their specific history and integrate them into the
general typology.

REZULTATE PRELIMINARE ALE CERCETĂRII COLECȚIEI DE ANTICHITĂȚI EGIPTENE A INSTITUTULUI DE ARHEOLOGIE „VASILE PÂRVAN” DIN BUCUREȘTI
ABSTRACT
The “Vasile Pârvan” Institute of Archaeology in Bucharest, through its integrated sector, entitled the National Museum of Antiquities (hereinafter, the NMA), has a minor collection of 151 ancient Egyptian artefacts. Between the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century the collection was established and developed through the donations of the Romanian private collectors. The study of this collection will give a more in‑depth insight into issues such as: the stages of its formation, the interests of collectors regarding the purchase of antiquities in general and of Egyptian antiquities especially during the previously mentioned period; the types and categories of Egyptian artefacts.
Broadly speaking, the artefacts can be dated to the Predynastic Period, the First Intermediate Period, the Second Intermediate Period (the Hyksos Domination), the New Kingdom (the Empire), the Third Intermediate Period, the Late Period (from the 26th Dynast onwards), the Roman Period.
Most of the artefacts have a good conservation state. However, there is also a number of fragmentary pieces (statues of funerary servants, Osiris statues, statues of deities, wooden objects, amulets, mummies, lapidary pieces, a fragment of a mummy cartonnage, a mummy funerary mask), some of which have been restored in the laboratory.
The artefacts are made of different materials, specific to each type and period in which they were made: wood, painted wood, rocks – limestone (alabaster), sandstone, serpentine, basalt, granite, breccia, black stone – ceramics, glazed faience, terracotta, glass paste.
Regarding the typology of the artefacts, the collection includes the followings: lapidarium fragments, epigraphic and anepigraphic shabti, shawabti, ushebti mummiform statuettes, scarabs, statuettes of gods, amulets, necklaces, vases, mummies of birds and a fragment of a human mummy (a hand), Predynastic points and blades, a shabti box, a mummy mask, a fragment of a mummy cartonnage, a headrest, a fragment of a stela/cippus of Horus.

This book is an Egyptological study of particular historical, archaeological, funerary, and religious aspects of the Late Old Kingdom. More precisely, it addresses the general issue of five private elite tombs (rock-cut tombs and mastabas) of the 5th and the 6th Dynasties at the Saqqara cemetery, as an attempt to in-depth analysis and understanding of the various levels of relationship between the elite members of the central apparatus at the top of the Egyptian society, through their tombs viewed as monumental funerary symbols of prestige and power.
It is a three-part study focused in the first one on pursuing the process of the genesis and evolution of the Egyptian central elite and its funerary monuments and symbolism on several levels, as it developed in the complex and profound framework of the socio-political and religious-funerary transformations that marked the central authority of Ancient Egypt and the unified state throughout the Old Kingdom, and particularly in its late part.
The particular features of this phenomenon are exemplified in a detailed presentation and analysis in the second part, where, together with essential information provided on their owners, are described five tombs: two rock-cut tombs of the 5th Dynasty medium-rank elite members Niankhkhnum & Khnumhotepp, and Irukaptah, and three impressive in size and grandeur mastabas of the 6th Dynasty highest central elite, the viziers Kagemni, Mereruka and Mehu.
At the same time, the study also raises the issue of the relationship between life and death in the Egyptian mindset, the latter understood as a continuation of life on an invisible plane.
The third part of the study, in its abbreviated form, contains a minimal yet suggestive selection of photographs the author has taken during her last six-year explorations at Saqqara cemetery, in the area of the tombs subject to research and analysis. Most of them are exterior photographs of the area and of the five tombs with which I chose to exemplify the analysis in its current form. However, I also chose some representative interior details of larger shots from each tomb. Where appropriate, I provided my transliteration and translation of each extant inscription.
Finally, in the last part, the author proposes an EXCURSUS: DEATH IS NOT THE END on the possible links between the latest discoveries in the medical field on near-death experiences and the hypothesis that the ancient Egyptian approach to the afterlife was influenced by this very type of experience..

DEATH IS NOT THE END. My Near-Death Experience Journal is a one-of-a-kind journal book, a project dedicated to all those people who have experienced a short-term death followed by their coming back to life, either in clinical conditions or in the absence of them, a unique experience, called NDE for short. The tremendous events and phenomena these people went through during this experience have left an everlasting mark on their memory and spirit, changing them forever.
The uniqueness of this book lies in the fact that all those NDErs who have not yet written down their unique NDexperiences, have now the opportunity to do so through this journal, which was created specifically for this purpose.
The book contains a foreword and eleven chapter titles preceded by motivational quotes to facilitate and stimulate the reader's desire to become the writer-creator of his own journal in which one can describe step by step one's unique experience in the afterlife, one's return to life and how one's life has changed since then (or not?). In Foreword. This Journal is Yours!, the reader is presented briefly, but with scientific arguments, the huge importance of this type of experience. Then the purpose of this book is explained to them: every person who has gone through such an event has the opportunity to become, by means of this book, the writer of his own unique NDE journal. Moreover, in order to make a significant personal note, the reader is encouraged to write his own name on the front page, under the subtitle.
The book then contains eleven chapter titles preceded by motivational quotes thought out in a coherent development, including each major stage that preceded, constituted and followed one's NDE, a kind of general "template" that can be completed and adjusted by each experiencer, according to one's own experience. Each chapter contains a number of pages with lines that the reader-writer-NDexperiencer has the opportunity to personalize with his own writing.
If the first ten chapters are intended to reveal the creator-writer, the eleventh one stimulates one's artistic dimension, giving people the chance to draw or paint their visual memories of their unique and fabulous Journey in the Afterlife.

"This book contains the results obtained by the author with sustained scientific efforts over several
years. Core to the book is the concept of Hermeticism, its ultimate goal being to provide new
insight into the evolution and development of the Hermetic stream of thought and Hermetic arts
(techniques) as well, in the Eastern part of the Roman Empire during the first three
centuries of the Common Era.
The book is structured in seven chapters, as follows: I. Introduction in Hermeticism.
Statement of the Problem; II. Aspects on the method of approach and investigation of the texts of
the Hermetic techniques; III. The influence of the Near East; IV. Thoth-Hermes-Hermes
Trismegistus. The birth and the evolution of a divine syncretic character; V. Astrology; VI. Magic
and Hermeticism; VII. Occult sciences, alchemy and Hermeticism. The chapters are followed by

Information on Hermeticism transmitted in written form either by Oriental, Greco-Oriental,
and (Greco-) Roman authors or via anonymous epigraphic or papyrological texts revealed by
archaeological evidence forms the foundation for arguments and hence for the conclusions we
have reached. Evidence comes from different regions of the Eastern part of the Roman Empire,
and as such the present book has grown out of an attempt to harmonize all results in a coherent
framework. That fact allowed an interregional cross-cultural study mainly focused on three key
areas. In order of importance the provinces that we have taken into account are: Egypt, Asia Minor and the Roman Near East, which broadly correspond to the Roman provinces (traced through their historical development) Aegyptus, Syria and Judaea, Asia, Osrhoene (or Edessa), Mesopotamia. To these may also be added Achaea, Cappadocia, and Moesia. To sum up, we can say that these provinces taken as a whole define the concept of the Ancient Mediterranean World, whose political, social, cultural, and religious ideas and realities have generally influenced the Roman Empire, and particularly Hermeticism. The latter, seen as an essentially syncretic spiritual stream of thought, influenced by and in turn affecting different philosophical and religious ideas of the time, can only be properly understood if considered as part of the broader Mediterranean framework. This context includes both Hermes Trismegistus, the main imaginary-divine character of Hermeticism, a syncretic result of Eastern religious traditions, and his followers, the Hermetists, technicians and philosophers alike, subjects of the Roman Empire.
Hence, in an attempt to completely understand the realities of that time, we suggest that the
best way is to develop a transdisciplinary and multilevel analysis-based approach of the first three
centuries CE Hermeticism within the Eastern Roman provinces. The chapters of the book
constitute a detailed demonstration of our research. In this regard, while the first two chapters deal with the influence of th Eastern philosophical concepts such as (among others), sympatheia, the next ones offer a detailed presentation of the evolution of the divine eclectic character Thoth-Hermes-Trismegistos. Entering in depth analysis and starting from general to particular, our
research investigates the Hermetic techniques, i.e., astrology, magic, occult sciences, and alchemy. To illustrate our approach we used a rich variety of sources for each of the techniques.
Conclusions
As solution to Man’s spiritual salvation Hermeticism comes up with the achievement of a sympathetic relationship, in which the individual becomes One and All at the same time,
identifying himself with Nature, God and the Universe. The material world is seen as a mediation
and sustaining point which allows the initiate to begin his ascent back to the primeval One-All in
“Heaven”. Hermes Trismegistos, therefore, be it the syncretic archetypal God, and/or the
imaginary divine character which merges with the initiate disciple, is conceived as the Enlighted
One, the All-Encompassing being. As such, the Hermetic disciple becomes his worthy follower
and successor.
We think that the unifying understanding of the two types of Hermetic writings may be
facilitated by a new approach meant to overcome the restrictive and discontinuous interpretations
because of the rigid differences between fields of knowledge. To this extent we suggest as a
method of approach and investigation of both the Hermetic techniques and the Hermetic
phenomenon in general the transdisciplinary method based on the interconnection of the levels of reality, as it has been theorized in recent years by the Romanian scientist Basarab Nicolescu.
That being said, we conclude that both the magical tradition and the other Hermetic
techniques - astrology, occultism, alchemy – represent the operational aspect of Hermetic
philosophy which is rather analytical and descriptive, visual. During the centuries to which we
have referred, the two ascpects, the philosophical and the technical one were working together not only in individual people, but also in schools of thought. In fact, the very dividing of Hermeticism in its two approaches, philosophical and techniqual/operative, is an obvious invention of modern Western scholars which have “translated” Hermeticism into the image and on the likeness of their discriminative minds. This perspective however has contributed to the understanding of certain aspects of the Hermetic tradition, but it has also brought certain limits. The researchers in ancient Hermetic phenomenon came to realize that the “technical/operative” and “philosophical” genres of Hermetic literature are actually no else than pieces and facets of the whole. In this context, the Hermetic magic is an operationalization of philosophy inside the
technical matrix. The same cultural and philosophical elements are assimilated and synthesized in the magical papyri and in Corpus Hermeticum alike. But the magic itself is something that the
individual does, practices or likely something that the individual, through repeated practice,
merges with, becomes, hence, is. It is not possible to achieve magic through contemplation, but
through action only, through motion, be that action one of the ideas, or thoughts, not something
that is contemplated. The particularity - and hence the uniqueness – of the Hermetic system was
that his practitioner, the magician-philosopher realized that by means of a combination of action
(i.e., the astrological, magical, occult, and alchemical techniques) and philosophical reflection (i.e., Corpus Hermeticum) the spiritual essence of Man can be qualitatively enriched and spiritually elevated. With this elevation Man can develop a true understanding of himself and of the phenomena and processes in the universe. Combining action with thought and practice with philosophy, the Hermetist could acquire the ability to understand the essence of the universe hidden phenomena."""
