Aztec

This thesis seeks to extract a new understanding of the writing on the Aztec Tizoc Stone through a synthetic combination of Geographic Information Systems processing and the application of new developments in Epigraphy.  I propose a newly established set of Nahuatl toponyms from the Tizoc Stone to drive a GIS analysis of site interactions.  This furthers our understanding of Aztec writing, the Empire’s mechanisms of control, and explores a multi-disciplinary methodology which can be marshaled to enhance archaeological investigations in multiple geotemporal paradigms. 
The results of the study are threefold.  My research indexes each individual glyph and determines that the Tizoc Stone contains evidence of phoneticism and supports an understanding of Nahuatl writing as a logosyllabic system.  I present a new translation for the glyph traditionally understood as Tamazollan and argue it is read as Tamazollapan.  My analysis of the glyphs also presents a uniform data set for future research.
I conclude that the Tizoc Stone is designed to function as state speech which operates on multiple levels: linguistic, religious and political.  The dynamic interplay between the Stone, its glyphs and the observer was manifested as a power relationship which projected both geographic and political aspects of Aztec identity.  The Tizoc Stone defined Empire and acted as a monument to the legitimization of Aztec power.  The central role of the glyphs in these interactions requires us to further our investigation of their activity in the political development of the Aztec Empire.

eminent scientists and researchers of Tatar Turks, the relation between
Turks and American natives is investigated. Ebrar Kerimullin
investigated similar works of the scientists like Otto Rerig, R.
Williamson, S. Rigg, J. R. Swanton, T. Kreber, S. Vikander, B. Ferrario,
G. Dumezil, J. Josselin, N. F. Yakovlev diligently and compared
common words by giving examples both in Turkish and in the
languages of native groups like Siu-Dakota, Timucha, Yana, and
Quechua. Phonetic, morphologic and semantic similarities between
Turkish words and the words taken from the languages of natives draw
attention. The author believes that there is a genetic closeness between
Turkish dialects and languages of several native tribes. The article also
includes information about the music, folklore and ethnography of the  natives and emphasizes on the closeness of those elements with
Turkish music, folklore and ethnography.

Cicero says, in On The Nature of the Gods (De Natura Deorum, 45 BCE), that the word "religion" (Latin religio) derives not as usually thought from re-ligare, which would mean "to reconnect" (e.g. man with god) but from re-legere "to re-collect", "to re-member", "to re-read". In order to have a true relationship with our sacred books, including the book of the world, and the book of oneself, one must re-read them. Re-reading also implies recreation. The following are my re-readings of a few traditional sources.

This paper describes a technique to recognize a Mesoamerican symbol whose shape is extremely variable. We extract symbols from a drawing and we encode them as discrete curves. We perform the recognition using a set of rules that define the correct symbol. One of the rules is the presence of a single symmetry axis. We describe a comparison metric between curves in order to search for symmetries. The other rules used for the recognition concern the morphology of the symbol. The proposed technique proves to be fast and efficient. We present recognition results obtained on various pre-hispanic images. The rule-based approach proposed and implemented here, appears suitable to detect polymorphic signs, a common feature of Mesoamerican symbols. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of pattern recognition into the field of Mesoamerican iconography.
