Se hizo un estudio preliminar para verificar la estructura de una versión de 9 ítems de la Escala Básica de Empatía (EBE), un instrumento que evalúa la empatía afectiva y cognitiva. Los participantes fueron 135 adolescentes entre 11 y 18 años (M=14, DE=1.4) de educación regular, en una región urbana de Lima Metropolitana. Se usó metodología de ecuaciones estructurales para confirmar la estructura, y la transformación Schmid-Leiman para evaluar el modelo bi-dimensional. Los resultados indican que un modelo oblicuo de dos factores es satisfactorio para los datos, la confiabilidad es superior a .70, y no se justifica la interpretación de un solo puntaje tal como anteriormente se hacía. Se discuten las diferencias en la interpretación de los modelos y la valoración de la metodología factorial.

The aim of this study was to test the direction of effect in the relationship between bullying and empathy. The participants were 205 sixth-grade students, randomly selected from urban and rural schools in Cyprus. A six-month, two-timepoint longitudinal design was used in which the participants completed the bullying subscale of the Revised Bullying and Victimization Questionnaire (BVQ) and the Basic Empathy Scale. The results of this study showed that bullying at time 1 negatively predicted the affective component of empathy at time 2. Moreover, children’s affective empathy at time 1 negatively predicted bullying at time 2. The results of this study indicate towards a reciprocal model of understanding the relationship between bullying and empathy.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the factor structure and reliability, validity of basic empathy scale among high school students of Shiraz.Participants were 700 high school students (340 male and 360 female) from Shiraz city that selected by cluster sampling method and they completed basic empathy scale and peer relation and aggressive subscales. Cronbach’s alpha, test-retest reliability, exploratory factor analysis and convergent and divergent validity for data analyzing were used. The results of exploratory factor analysis showed two factors that named affective component and cognitive component. The two factors explained 37/7 percent of total variance and Cranach’s alpha coefficients for scale were ranged from 0.74 to 0.84 and test-retest reliability coefficients were from 0.72 to 0.80. Also, in present study girls showed more empathy than boys.Based on this result, BES is a valuable instrument for assessing of empathy in adolescences and it can be used by mental health and educational professionals
