Information about the mission, and policies related to court and popular ceremonies given in the Relatione, helped to form a vision of Japan embodied in an image of Hasekura that outlasted his Roman sojourn, so that even after his departure people continued to re-experience and discuss what had been seen and said directly in his presence. An important part in this overlapping and resonance of oral and visual memories was played by the images that remained of him, that portray him more or less faithfully: the prints, and above all the portrait in the current Salone dei Corazzieri in the Quirinale and the canvas kept in Palazzo Borghese.
