Forest fire is one of those natural disasters that have been causing huge destruction in terms of loss of vegetation, animals and hence affects the economy. Image segmentation techniques have been applied on satellite images of forest fire to extract fire object and some data mining techniques have been used for predicting the spread of forest fire. This paper proposes a novel approach to isolation of fire region using time-sequenced images, classifying fire images from non-fire images, predicting its movement and estimating the area burnt. Once the images are enhanced, the fire region is segmented out. Feature extraction provides the necessary inputs for classification of images as fire and non-fire images. Linear regression is used to predict the movement of forest fire to facilitate better evacuation strategy. Burnt area is calculated from the difference image. This work is helpful in drafting evacuation strategies quickly by predicting the movement of forest fire and facilitates the kick-off of rehabilitation activities by identifying and assessing the burnt area.

In this paper, a computer generated hologram image was transmitted using a high power blue LED in a visible light communication (VLC) system. At the receiver side, a Fresnel lens was used to collimate the ray of lights with the data transmitted over 1 m distance. The transmitted hologram images were reconstructed using a reconstruction software. The results show that the proposed VLC based holographic image transmission is viable and can be used for future 3D hologram transmission.

The science of securing a data by encryption is Cryptography whereas the method of hiding secret messages in other messages is Steganography, so that the secret's very existence is concealed. The term 'Steganography' describes the method of hiding cognitive content in another medium to avoid detection by the intruders. This paper introduces two new methods wherein cryptography and steganography are combined to encrypt the data as well as to hide the encrypted data in another medium so the fact that a message being sent is concealed. One of the methods shows how to secure the image by converting it into cipher text by S-DES algorithm using a secret key and conceal this text in another image by steganographic method. Another method shows a new way of hiding an image in another image by encrypting the image directly by S-DES algorithm using a key image and the data obtained is concealed in another image. The proposed method prevents the possibilities of steganalysis also.
