more"Cette recherche a été engagée dans l’objectif d’identifier les formes que prend la coopération au sein de la cellule acoustique des équipages aéroportés de la patrouille maritime en mission de détection sousmarine, et en particulier, lors du pistage de sous-marins. Cette activité de contrôle indirect d'un processus
autonome et dynamique (l'évolution de la route du sous-marin) est composée de plusieurs phases (préparation du système technique, veille et pistage), qui diffèrent par des délais de feed-back plus ou moins longs (les signaux relatifs au sous-marin peuvent se succéder plus ou moins rapidement).
Nous avons étudié les facteurs qui autorisent le groupe à transgresser la coopération verticale prescrite par la structure hiérarchique de l’organisation militaire, et qui le conduisent à adopter une coopération verticale avec négociation ou bien une coopération horizontale, mieux adaptées au problème à résoudre.
Cette recherche s'appuie sur une analyse de quatre missions d'entraînement. Dans un premier temps, nous avons identifié les caractéristiques de chacun des trois modes de coopération. Puis nous avons vérifié la fréquence d’apparition de ces trois modes de coopération en fonction des phases de contrôle du processus. Dans un dernier temps, nous avons examiné l'enchaînement des modes de coopération durant l'activité.
L’étude met en évidence l'importance spécifique de deux facteurs de transgression de la coopération verticale. Le premier facteur est l'accès à l'information. En effet, la détention de l’information sur le processus permet à certains opérateurs de participer à des prises de décision alors que leur statut ne suppose d’eux qu’une mise en oeuvre des modes d’exécution choisis par l’un des responsables de la mission. C'est donc la maîtrise de l’information qui conduit à passer d’une prise de décision centralisée à une décision d’action partiellement collective (la décision finale incombant dans tous les cas au responsable de la mission). Dans la plupart des cas, ce facteur entraîne une coopération verticale avec négociation. Le second facteur de transgression de la coopération verticale est la nécessité d'optimiser les diagnostics et les pronostics. Dans cet objectif, la cellule acoustique adopte une coopération horizontale essentiellement motivée par la construction d'une représentation partagée du processus.
Les patrouilles maritimes de l'aéronavale font régulièrement des missions d’entraînement au cours desquelles l’équipage doit détecter, identifier et pister un sous-marin dans les eaux territoriales françaises.
Il s'agit d'exercer un contrôle indirect sur un processus dynamique (Hoc, 1989a) : le sous-marin évolue indépendamment des actions entreprises par l’équipe de la patrouille maritime qui doit contrôler cette évolution. Le coeur du travail de l’équipage consiste à déterminer les moyens techniques nécessaires au contrôle de ce processus. Pour cela, la synchronisation entre les membres de l'équipage (synchronisation des actions, mais aussi des raisonnements) est cruciale pour la réussite de la mission : chaque cellule, chargée de recueillir des informations dans un domaine particulier, doit contribuer dans le temps requis à l’analyse de la situation et à la mise en oeuvre des moyens de contrôle du sous-marin.
La cellule acoustique de ces équipages est spécifiquement chargée des tâches de détection et d'interprétation des signaux sous-marins qui sont captés en surface et sous la mer par des hydrophones fixés à des bouées larguées de l'avion. Les acousticiens ne disposent actuellement que de consoles
indépendantes les unes des autres, conçues pour supporter l’activité d’un opérateur seul mais dépourvues de la possibilité d’échanger des informations et de travailler collectivement sur des données partagées. Or il est reconnu que certaines phases de l’activité nécessitent la participation coordonnée de ces opérateurs.
Notre recherche est issue du constat que cette importante part d’activité collective au sein de la cellule acoustique n'est pas prise en compte par les concepteurs des dispositifs techniques destinés aux acousticiens.
Deux axes d'étude ont été poursuivis. Le premier est orienté vers la spécification de dispositifs techniques supportant les différentes modalités de la coopération adoptées par la cellule acoustique. Les résultats de cette étude1 ont été détaillés dans Mundutéguy et al. (1998) et ne seront que partiellement rapportés ici.
Le second axe d'étude, dont nous présentons les résultats dans cet article, a pour but d'analyser les facteurs qui conduisent un groupe à abandonner un mode de coopération dicté par la structure hiérarchique afin d'adopter un mode de coopération mieux adapté à la résolution du problème en cours."
