Cuckoo

This is an ecocritical approach to Claf Abercuawg, which first questions previous scholarship, which has marginalised the role of nature in the text to having a purely symbolic or textual quality. An alternative interpretation of the first half of the text is offered in which the cuckoo, rather than bringing summer, or sadness, is rather acting as a sentient and benevolent actor and affecting the more passive speaker of the poem.

This paper presents a Cuckoo Search (CS) based algorithm to solve constrained economic load dispatch (ELD) problems. The proposed methodology easily deals with non-smoothness of cost function arising due to the use of valve point effects. The performance of the algorithm has been tested on systems possessing 13 and 40 generating units involving varying degrees of complexity. The findings affirm that the method outperforms the existing techniques, and can be a promising alternative approach for solving the ELD problems in practical power system.

This article introduces and discusses a little-known Latin poem in the 'voces animantium' catalogue genre as a possible new source for the urging cuckoo trope that appears in the Old English Seafarer and Husband's Message. The article discusses the presentation of the cuckoo in this poem ('De cantibus avium') which is extant in three continental codices and relates this depiction to the Old English poems. I argue that the Latin cuckoo in 'De cantibus' may suggest a continental context for the cuckoo motif in the Old English poems in addition to, or instead of, the Welsh sources that are traditionally cited as likely origins.

The cuckoo search algorithm is a recently developedmeta-heuristic optimization algorithm, which is suitable forsolving optimization problems. To enhance the accuracy andconvergence rate of this algorithm, an improved cuckoo searchalgorithm is proposed in this paper. Normally, the parametersof the cuckoo search are kept constant. This may lead todecreasing the efficiency of the algorithm. To cope with thisissue, a proper strategy for tuning the cuckoo searchparameters is presented. Considering several well-knownbenchmark problems, numerical studies reveal that theproposed algorithm can find better solutions in comparisonwith the solutions obtained by the cuckoo search. Therefore, itis anticipated that the improved cuckoo search algorithm cansuccessfully be applied to a wide range of optimizationproblems.
