Depuis octobre 2017, Humanité & Inclusion (HI) a initié un projet d’éducation inclusive au Sahel avec pour but de contribuer à une éducation inclusive de qualité pour les filles et les garçons marginalisés au Burkina Faso, au Mali et au Niger avec le co-financement de NORAD et l’AFD.
Les filles handicapées comptent parmi les groupes les plus marginalisés de la société, en raison des normes sociales et des préjugés culturels liés au genre et au handicap. Pourtant, il existe peu d’études permettant de documenter leur situation et les difficultés spécifiques qu’elles rencontrent. C’est pourquoi, cette étude adopte une approche intersectionnelle afin de penser et d’analyser la situation des filles handicapées en combinant les effets et dynamiques de plusieurs facteurs de vulnérabilité. En effet, en utilisant le prisme des analyses de genre et de l’approche sociale du handicap, cette étude fait clairement apparaître que les filles handicapées sont concernées par la pluralité et l’articulation de systèmes de domination sociale fondés sur le genre et sur le handicap. Elles expérimentent une oppression spécifique déterminée par leur identité indissociable de filles et de personnes handicapées. Cette condition se manifeste dans toutes les sphères, publiques et privées, si bien que les filles handicapées sont exposées à des inégalités spécifiques par rapport aux garçons handicapés ainsi qu’aux filles non handicapées dans l’accès à l’éducation, à la formation, aux soins de santé entre autres.
Les résultats de l’étude serviront d’une part, à orienter l'intervention de HI et de ses partenaires dans le domaine de l’éducation, et d’autre part, de plaidoyer. Les messages clés issus de l’étude seront partagés avec des décideurs, les acteurs de la société civile et les donateurs pour les sensibiliser sur l’importance de développer des interventions d’éducation inclusive sensibles au genre.

Socialization is turned into the meanings of cultural transmission in an anthropological context. The
general observation of the troubles in socialization process of disabled children necessitated this study, which
aimed to delve into the socialization process of disabled children in a school. The aim was to see the route of
socialization which is remained incomplete by the families because of different problems, negative cultural
beliefs and barriers and then could be completed by the school. The research team selected the Jalalpur
Pirwala -a developing area of Pakistan- to understand the cultural beliefs of families where people more
believe in saints and superstitions. There are narrow researches of childhood disability in Pakistan, so this
phenomenological study is the addition in the branch of Anthropology that is Medical Anthropology. Within a
period of four-months, research was conducted in special education institutes of Jalalpur Pirwala. The subject
of the research was 6-18 years old disabled children including deaf, blind, mentally challenged and physically
impaired. Data was collected through the methods such as participation as an observer, unstructured
interviews with staff and in-depth interviews with the caretakers of disabled children who were the students
of special education institutes. Purposive and random sampling were used to select the caretakers of disabled
children and two focus group discussions with teaching staff were also engaged. Results were analyzed
through document and content analysis. As Coleridge (2000) says, “Disability is defined by culture”, similarly
findings show that cultural beliefs regarding disabled children are related to supernatural or divine phenomena
in which causes of disability are Allah’s will, curse or women’s fault. Such negativity (because of cultural
beliefs), problems (such as social, economic and behavioural) and barriers (such as protection and
communication) lead disabled children to be restricted to their homes. So, they have uncompleted
socialization and also they cannot be socialized by other social factors such as school, community or peer
groups etc. Only then Special Education Institutes of Jalalpur Pirwala are helpful to transmit the culture
through education, observation and experiences.

Contemporary approaches to working with disabled persons/persons with disabilities (DP/PwDs) focus on mainstreaming, 1 assistive/adaptive technology, 2 differentiated instruction, 3 universal design, 4 working with support personnel 5 and special educational laws/policies. 6 While powerful in shaping equitable practices, these approaches to inclusion presume that a) DP/PwDs, generally, long to be included into settings built for and primarily by nondisabled persons/typical learners and that b) settings and practices for and by nondisabled persons are neutral, regular and/or the norm. Yet, DP/PwDs who are artists, musicians, poets, community leaders and scholars call for practices and settings built with them from the ground up that value the different approaches to music learning, experiencing music and music-making.

This study explored human rights for Qatari women with disabilities, challenges and means of empowerment as perceived by females and males both with and without disabilities. The Questionnaire of the Rights of Women with Disabilities (QRWD) was developed using the Articles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Results indicated that participants without disabilities, especially men, less acknowledged the rights of women with disabilities. Furthermore, women with disabilities did not emphasize civil and political rights, but highly addressed the obstacles related to the society and legislative and political empowerment. Findings were discussed in the light of the previous literature and further recommendations were provided.

When it comes to disabilities, two of the major challenges in both society and the church are the medical and charity models of approaching disability. These models, which approach those with disabilities as the site of biological curing and as objects of pity, lead to dehumanizing ideas and inhumane treatment. This essay retrieves the Christological anthropology and epistemology of 20th century theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer to build an approach modeled on "mutual encounter," arguing that this approach counters idealistic understandings of the human person and instead points human relationships toward the preservation of particularities in both body and mind.

Teatr, w którym aktorami są osoby ze spektrum autyzmu nie doczekał się jeszcze wielu opracowań. Większość tekstów rozpatruje terapeutyczne konteksty aktywności teatralnej osób ze spektrum autyzmu lub wręcz działania interwencyjne wobec nich przy użyciu technik teatralnych. W artykule autorka poszukuje innego spojrzenia na zjawisko teatru osób ze spektrum autyzmu. Przedstawione badania miały na celu ukazanie działalności teatru "Autentyczni artyści" w dwóch wymiarach: osobistym i społecznym. Zastosowaną metodą badawczą było jakościowe studium indywidulanego przypadku, którym był teatr osób ze spektrum autyzmu "Autentyczni Artyści" z Łodzi. Badania ukazały, że działalność teatralna może być dla osób ze spektrum autyzmu źródłem osobistej satysfakcji i spełnienia. Teatr okazał się również miejscem nawiązywania relacji i zawierania przyjaźni. Zostało ukazane, że działalność "Autentycznych Artystów" posiada również potencjał emancypacyjny, stanowiąc przestrzeń poszukiwania własnych form tożsamości oraz twórczości.

The aim of this talk is to examine the inclusivity of the university sector by identifying a group of disabled international students’ experiences of the possible barriers encountered in their educational life, also citing previous research in this field. I also want to comment on the applicability of ‘inclusive’ education practices within the university context.

This paper critically explores power structures embedded in archival description and re-conceptualizes archives and archival material as assemblages of politicized decisions specifically by utilizing Alison Kafer's political/relational model of disability as a framework. Kafer's model draws upon previous models of disability to open up contestation and politicization of disability as a category. This approach acknowledges that concepts of disability always already intersect with notions of race, class, age, gender, and sexuality. This article argues that cross-informing archival studies and feminist disability studies illuminates the long history that records creation and description processes have in documenting, surveil-ling, and controlling disabled and other non-normative bodies and minds. Furthermore, a political/relational approach makes possible the illumination of archival assemblages: the multiple perspectives, power structures, and cultural influences-all of which are temporally, spatially, and materially contingent-that inform the creation and archival handling of records. Through close readings of multiple records' descriptions, both inside and outside of disability, this paper focuses on the complexity of language and its politics within disability communities. A political/relational approach first promotes moving away from the replication and reliance on self-evident properties of a record and second advocates for addressing-not redressing-contestable terms, both of which illuminate the archival assemblages which produced it. By embracing the contestation of disability , and therefore the corresponding ways in which it is represented in archives, archivists and archives users are able to perceive and challenge the ways in which norms and deviance are understood, perpetuated, and constructed in public narratives via archives. This new book series represents both a contribution to, and a departure from, the academic field of critical disability studies. According to some concerns about that field, disability is the start but never the finish (Goodley, 2013), there is insufficient engagement with the ethical and political issues faced by disabled people, and the work is too insensitive to individual experiences (Vehmas and Watson, 2014). Such concerns are addressed boldly in the new series via a formal coupling of critical disability studies with the research method of autoethnography. The qualitative method of autoethnography acknowledges a researcher's individual experience in the most explicit of ways, from the very start of the process to the finished product that reaches publication. Whereas most traditional research methods claim, or at least aspire to, objectivity, autoethnography owns its subjectivity as paramount. This being so, when academic authors/editors have direct or at least intimate individual experience of disability, the subjectivity of their books can predicate a shift in typology from critical disability studies to what the new series terms autocritical disability studies. In encouraging textual and theoretical work, the series also introduces autocritical discourse analysis and autocritical disability theory to formalise the ethical and epistemological importance of disability experience in many aspects of critical studies. The key point about the books sought for the series, then, is precisely that the individual experience of disability is recognised and positioned as both start and finish. The first book in the series, Metanarratives of Disability: Culture and the Normative Social Order, is in progress and set for publication in 2021.

Society does not see whiteness, nor do they see heterosexuality, able-bodies, or maleness.  Society sees “Other” bodies that do not fit into the categories it has established as the “norm.”  This is problematic. Further, the whiteness we are “Othered” by functions to police, punish, and control our bodies thus creating groups of oppressed peoples, ranging from various races, ethnicities, body types and sizes, sexualities, genders, classes, ages, and dis/de-abilities.

My research and photographs investigate the oppression caused by whiteness by visually smothering those deemed outside of norms with literal whiteness in the form of milky, white paint.  By working with as much diversity as possible to smother in whiteness as subjects, I present portraits to demonstrate the uniqueness of each person being, both covered in whiteness and, homogenized as a singular group of “Others.” The photographs are intended to express the way in which whiteness is oppressing the individual, and also how whiteness causes the added oppression of denying each person validation of individual identity.  The individuals disappear under white paint, under white oppression.

The Academic Network of European Disability experts (ANED) was established by the European Commission in 2008 to provide scientific support and advice for its disability policy Unit. In particular, the activities of the Network will support the future development of the EU Disability Action Plan and practical implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Disabled People.
