It is a conceptual paper to demonstrate the importance of application of Six Sigma DMAIC methodlogy to a PVC pipe manufacturing process and to realize the role played by measure phase for successful completion of Six Sigma. Measure phase measures the potential of the process. It is important to study the existing process in order to formulate the improvement strategies. It entails a method to execute measure phase in a comprehensive manner so that this phase reflects the actual process. It acts as road map for the researchers for executing measure phase using appropriate tool. A case study has been conducted in a PVC manufacturing plant to execute measure phase to produce breakthrough results in real world environment.

Com grande número de usuários no setor de telecomunicações, as companhias telefônicas necessitam exercer suas atividades com qualidade visando sempre a satisfação do cliente. Entretanto, a realidade neste setor é diferente, são muitas reclaamações na área de telefonia fixa e constantes atrasos na solução de problemas levando ao aumento da insatisfação do cliente. Com o intuito de analisar os maiores motivos de registros e atrasos na resolução dessas reclamações, este artigo traz o estudo e uso das três primeiras fases da metodologia DMAIC para definição, medição e análise dos motivos que geram esses atrasos. Com o diagrama de Ishikawa pôde ser observado que os principais problemas encontrados na empresa estudada são internos e devido a erros de mão de obra, método, medida, material, máquinas e fatores externos à empresa, que se acumulam causando atrasos, insatisfação e multas para as empresas deste setor.

In the current business landscape, customers’ orders compliance with the established delivery dates and the efficient use of resources are two relevant topics on the agenda. In this context, order fulfilment (OF) is a key business process dealing with all the activities needed to define customer requirements, design the production and logistics processes, and fill customer orders. In this paper, a case study developed in a ceramic company is presented. Its aim was to analyse and improve the company order fulfilment process that had been deteriorating after the introduction of a new product line that implied a new production process. Due to the change in the usual paradigm, there were several challenges that hindered customer service. The DMAIC cycle was applied. At the end of the study an improvement in the process capacity, as well as a 30% reduction in the percentage of delayed orders was achieved, amongst other improvements.
