Dread

This article defines and conceptualises the emotion ‘narrative dread’. Most discussions of what we might call narrative emotions – such as suspense, curiosity, and surprise – have focused on film. By contrast, comparatively little has been said about the particularities of narrative and emotion in relation to long-form television series. The article proposes that narrative dread differs from other similar responses through its distinct temporality and level of knowledge. Through a discussion of the series Better Call Saul, the article argues that narrative dread is particularly effectively elicited by the long-form narration that is typical of contemporary dramatic television series.

Budzące groze i obrzydzenie obrazy malowane przez artystę, który był samoukiem znalazły wielu naśladowców by wymienić tylko Damiena Hirsta. O populraności Bacona świadczy ilość reprodukcji jego obrazu przedstawiającego portret krzyczącego papieża, dla którego inspiracją był portret Innocentego X namalowany przez Diego Velásqueza. Francis Bacon należy do najbardziej rozponzawalnych artystów po II wojnie światowej, którego twórczość stanowi źródło wielu analiz i interpretacji. Celem niniejszego rozdziału jest próba spojrzenia na obrazy Bacona z perspektywy kryzysu zarówno podmiotowości jak i humanizmu. Odniesienie się w pierwszej kolejności do dzieł Diego Velásqueza, Tycjana, ale też Eadwearda Muybridge’a będących inspiracją dla twórczości Bacona pozwoliło zwrócić uwagę na jego fascynacje obejmujące temat portretu, ukrzyżowania i ludzkiego ciała będącego w ruchu. Interpretacja malarstwa z perspektywy filozofii Gillesa Deleuze’a, Michela Foucaulta oraz roli jaką odgrywa nieświadomość w ujęciu Zymnuta Freuda pozwoliło odpowiedzieć na pytanie jaką rolę odgrywa izolacja postaci w obrazach. Ta ostatnia została sprowadzona do fenomenu zamknięcia łączącego się z daremnym pragnieniem uwolnienia  mutatis mutandis jak było to w przypadku platońskiej jaskini. Filozofia Emmanuela Lévinasa stała się z kolei przyczynkiem do interpretacji obrazów z perspektywy dialogiczności a właściwie jej braku, co w znaczący sposób uwarunkowało serie „Czarnych Tryptyków”. Przedmiotem analizy jest rola traumy i II wojny światowej jako ewokacja grozy w obrazach Bacona. Rozdział omawia również literackie ekfrazy na przykładzie Tadeusza Różewicza, którego poemat Francis Bacon czyli Diego Velàzquez na fotelu dentystycznym jest syntezą wiedzy poety o malarzu z którym znalazł pewne pokrewieństwo w sferze podobnych zainteresowań i fascynacji.

The Hospital Management Information System (SIMRS) functions as a medium for hospital information and hospital management. There are patient medical record data, which is the result of interactions between doctors and sufferer. Medical records are sensitive data so that the security of the hospital management information system needs to be improved to convince users or patients that the data stored on SIMRS is safe at attackers. There are several ways to improve system security, one of which is by threat modeling. Threat modeling aims to identify vulnerabilities and threats that exist in SIMRS. In this paper, threat modeling will use the STRIDE-model. The recognition with the STRIDE-model will then be analyzed and sorted according to the modeling with the STRIDE method. After the analysis is complete, it will be calculated and given a rating based on the DREAD method's assessment. The STRIDE method's results show that there are several threats identified, such as there is one threat on the user side, the webserver is five threats, and the database is three threats. The level of the threat varies from the lowest-level (LowL) to the highest-level (HiL). Based on the threat level, it can be a guide and sequence in improving and improving the security system at SIMRS, starting from the LowL to the HiL

Standard theories of decision-making involving delayed outcomes predict that people should defer a punishment, whilst advancing a reward. In some cases, such as pain, people seem to prefer to expedite punishment, implying that its anticipation carries a cost, often conceptualized as 'dread'. Despite empirical support for the existence of dread, whether and how it depends on prospective delay is unknown. Furthermore, it is unclear whether dread represents a stable component of value, or is modulated by biases such as framing effects. Here, we examine choices made between different numbers of painful shocks to be delivered faithfully at different time points up to 15 minutes in the future, as well as choices between hypothetical painful dental appointments at time points of up to approximately eight months in the future, to test alternative models for how future pain is disvalued. We show that future pain initially becomes increasingly aversive with increasing delay, but does so at a decreasing rate. This is consistent with a value model in which moment-by-moment dread increases up to the time of expected pain, such that dread becomes equivalent to the discounted expectation of pain. For a minority of individuals pain has maximum negative value at intermediate delay, suggesting that the dread function may itself be prospectively discounted in time. Framing an outcome as relief reduces the overall preference to expedite pain, which can be parameterized by reducing the rate of the dread-discounting function. Our data support an account of disvaluation for primary punishments such as pain, which differs fundamentally from existing models applied to financial punishments, in which dread exerts a powerful but time-dependent influence over choice.

Current threat modeling methodologies and tools are biased toward systems under development. While, organizations whose IT portfolio is made up of a large number of legacy systems, that run on fundamentally different and incongruous platforms and with little or no documentation, are left with few options. Rational, objective analysis of threats to assets and exploitable vulnerabilities requires, the portfolio to be represented in a consistent and understandable way based on a systematic, prescriptive, collaborative process that is usable but not burdensome. This paper describes a way to represent an IT portfolio from a security perspective using UML deployment diagrams and, subsequently, a process for threat modeling within that portfolio. To accomplish this, the UML deployment diagram was extended, a template created, and a process defined.
