moreThis paper integrates the thesis under construction “The citizen of the world and the ethical organization of the school” from a comparative study between Brazil and Portugal in the conjecture that interrelationships and social contexts are responsible for the development of human capacities. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate a multicultural and autonomous Brazilian project as a teaching practice that fights against discrimination and includes stakeholders in the process of learning, access, and school permanence.
In this project, the school principal in Brazil responsible for leading the curriculum supports, finances, and enables its implementation and dissemination to the entire educational community. The Young on the Scene project developed at the Professor Antonio José Leite State School - São Paulo - Brazil reveals itself as a case study as an
innovative, multicultural, cosmopolitan, and inclusive practice. The project formed a theater group that features rereading of classics and original scenic works. The students with the teachers create the script, scenario, and costume. Everyone is involved: parents, students, the wider community, as well as businesses and artists. The methodology developed by the researcher is explanatory of a qualitative nature and had direct observation, critical analysis of the narratives of the subjects participating in the research, interviews and public statements by the creators, participants, and artists. This data is compared to the Young on the Scene project’s cultural publications documents that are widely circulated in Brazil and other countries, including a wide range of video recordings made publicly available on the Internet via YouTube.
It is concluded in a qualitative hermeneutic that the realization of this cultural-social-educational project corroborates with a new look at the students as citizens who are build human sensibilities. The Young on the Scene project privileges the interactions between different cultures and social classes with evident advances in learning. Students are motivated and values development of tolerance and respect for multiple identities. It unites the project, school, and community in interdisciplinarity of the Arts and the Portuguese Language, thus becoming an effective inclusive device of pedagogical-social differentiation.
