The Museo Arqueológico de Ibiza has been linked since its beginning to the
necropolis of Puig des Molins and the research undertaken in its site. Its foundation was due to the success of previous archaeological works carried out in this ancient cemetery. One of the tasks entrusted to the institution at its foundation date was to undertake excavations in that Ibizan necropolis. Throughout its history the museum has programmed excavations, studies and different works in the interest of the preservation and spreading of the archaeological site. It has to be emphasized the works led by Carlos Román Ferrer from 1921 to 1929, the excavations supervised by José M.ª Mañá de Angulo in the 1940s, as well as several emergency excavations carried out in the 1970s and 1980s. The results of the latter allowed us to know
the most ancient phase of the archaeological site. The Museum research activity is still active in this XXI century.
