Sažetak: U radu se prikazuju i uspoređuju sheme metapodataka djelomično ili potpuno namijenjeni opisu osoba, nastale u trima različitim zajednicama metapodataka: Text encoding initiative (TEI), nastala za potrebe znanstvene istraživačke zajednice i obilježavanja elektroničkih tekstova metapodacima; FOAF (Frend Of A Friend) shema nastala kao rezultat projekta namijenjenog društvenom umrežavanju i UNIMARC za pregledne zapise, namijenjen upravljanju osobnim imenima za potrebe knjižničnih kataloga. Navedene sheme razlikuju se s obzirom na različite namjene, odnosno potrebe zajednice metapodataka koje ih razvijaju i korisnika kojima su namijenjeni podaci. Unatoč tome, pokazuje se kako sheme imaju i određene sličnosti, koje prije svega proizlaze iz osobina samog entiteta kojeg opisuju (tj. dijelovi imena za osobe, nacionalnost, spolu, itd.). Osim toga, u radu se naglašavaju neke dodirne točke u navedenim shemama koje proizlaze iz načela bitnih za različite datoteke koje koriste osobna imena za pristup podacima (publikacijama, tekstovima, mrežnim izvorima). The Linked Jazz1 project investigates the application of Linked Data technology to digital primary sources from jazz history archives. The central goal of the project is to develop methods for creating Linked Data semantics that help reveal to the network of social relationships among jazz artists.

The Semantic Web seeks to build a global distributed database through the integration of data from independent communities without the requirement for prior agreement on the structure of this data. This basic concept can be applied to the development of online communities. This paper outlines the potential for the FOAF Semantic Web technology to ensure that resources can be defined in a way that promotes their ability for being shared with third-parties with a minimum of integration effort. The paper outlines FOAF’s potential for community-building in conferences.

World Wide Web has revolutionized the means of data availability, but with its current structure model , it
is becoming increasingly difficult to retrieve relevant information, with reasonable precision and recall,
using the major search engines. However, with use of metadata, combined with the use of improved
searching techniques, helps to enhance relevant information retrieval .The design of structured,
descriptions of Web resources enables greater search precision and a more accurate relevance ranking of
retrieved information .One such efforts towards standardization is , Dublin Core standard, which has been
developed as Metadata Standard and also other standards which enhances retrieval of a wide range of
information resources. This paper discuses the importance of metadata, various metadata schemas and
elements, and the need of standardization of Metadata. This paper further discusses how the metadata can
be generated using various tools which assist intelligent agents for efficient retrieval.

The World Wide Web is the largest distributed information source which is accessed by billions of people
all across the world. A unique content source on the web can be accessed by various users for different
purposes. Hence it becomes mandatory to capture specific information requirements of each user. This
paper proposes a multimodal approach to build profile of users in an incremental manner. The approach
proposed in this paper achieves the goal of building user profiles using a hybrid approach. The profile
building process is further enriched with the incorporation of web page segmentation technique involving
page trees and densitometry. The proposed model extracts the requirement context of the user by utilizing
both local and global sources during the profile building process. The experiments conducted on the
proposed model confirm the effectiveness of the approach and highlights the channels which carries an
edge over others in capturing the user interest.
