Slope stabilization is one of the most problematic issue in Engineering tasks, which require a clear vision of the site environment, availability of materials, durability of the chosen options, economic feasibility and viability of the scheme, and finally a comprehensive Engineering knowledge and judgment is required to choose an option for slope stabilization. Slope stabilization through Gabion retaining wall is one of the option for the slope stabilization along the road, tunnel, dams, and any other structure that may require slope stabilization. In this paper now feasibility study carried out on why to choose Gabion retaining wall, because the site and primary data including characteristic of materials have been considered as assumptions. On the other hand, a complete design of Gabion Retain Wall along side of road is performed as of Euro Code, verifications are made with Design Approach 1A, Design Approach 1b, and Design Approach 2.

Gabions are economic structure widely used in small head works to avoid the effect of large potential energy. The aim of this paper is to study the Energy Dissipation and Discharge Coefficient over Stepped Gabion spillway and a suggested new gabion style. This new style was suggested to enlarge the max head of gabions depending on buttress wall technology. This structure was named as Buttress Gabion spillway. The dimensional analysis was used to correlate the different parameters affecting the studied phenomena. It was found that using of large particle increases energy dissipation and coefficient of discharge. Also as the number of buttress walls increases the energy dissipation coefficient of discharge decreases.

The energy of flow can be defined in general form as a measure of an object's capability to perform work, and it can be done in many different forms. The present study aims to investigate the dissipated energy of flow in the stepped shape of gabion weir with three steps. A set of 25 laboratory experiments and 175 operation tests were carried out by using a laboratory flume channel with different discharges. The tested gabion weir has five different lengths, and the filling material used is natural quarry gravel with five different median diameter. The experimental data have been analyzed to correlate the energy dissipation with the independent dimensionless terms of the other variables. The results of analysis showed that the energy dissipation has a direct proportion with discharge, and an inverse proportion with both the ratio of length of the third step to total length of the weir, the diameter of the gravel sample, and the porosity in general form, respectively. The concluded equation of energy dissipation gives good agreement for comparison between measured and predicted values of energy dissipation.

Traditional solid weirs are a water tight body build of impervious materials across the stream, to raise the water level and control the flow. However, it obstructs the longitudinal travel of aquatic life and other materials causing adverse effect on hydro-environment. A Gabion weir serves as a hydro-friendly structure because of its porosity which allows the Aquatic life as well as other materials to pass through them. Gabion weirs can be used as an easy substitute to the solid weirs in case of flow with low afflux and restricted flood mitigation. In this study, sets of laboratory experiments were carried out in order to study the flow characteristics over gabion weirs. The experiment has been conducted in a tilting flume of length 5.36m, 0.245m width and 0.450m depth, for a wide range of discharge, height, weir length, upstream water depth and different size aggregates for filling gabion. The outcome of the gabion weir were compared with solid weirs having equal size and found that the flow characteristics over solid and Gabion weir is different. A linear regression analysis has been performed to find the equation for discharge coefficient in terms of dimensionless parameters and using the proposed equation the discharge has been calculated over the gabion weir for given range of data and found that the calculated discharge is within ±5% of the observed ones.
