Going Green

The growth of arts festivals and the extensive number of attendees they attract have resulted in a greater environmental impact on these festival terrains and surrounding host communities. Festival organisers should implement practices that promote greener and more sustainable alternatives such as environmentally friendly transport systems and creative substitutes to reduce waste, water and energy. Implementing green practices is a process that requires a change in the mindsets and habits of both festival organisers and attendees. However, this is easier said than done. The involvement of festival attendees in the greening of festivals, or more specifically, their attitude towards supporting green practices, is crucial. It is therefore important to investigate the inclination of these festival attendees to support the implementation of green practices at South African Afrikaans arts festivals. Understanding which green practices these attendees are inclined to support will provide festival organisers with greater insight into which green initiatives should be implemented. Surveys were conducted at the Clover Aardklop National Arts Festival during October 2015 and the Innibos Lowveld National Arts Festival during June/July 2016. Four hundred and forty-three (443) and four hundred (400) questionnaires respectively were completed and used for analyses. A confirmatory factor analysis was done on each of the festivals' datasets. The five factors for each dataset were labelled as Greener transport, Waste management, Water management, Energy management and Green commitment. T-test analyses revealed a significant difference between the two festivals with respect to waste management as a factor.

The research also throws light on the initiatives taken in this field by Indian companies and how a major progress can be driven in this perspective

Seiring berjalannya waktu, bumi akan semakin menua dan akan mengalami kerusakan. Lama-kelamaan bumi tidak akan mampu memperbaiki keadaannya sendiri. Sehingga akan timbul banyaknya masalah lingkungan hidup yang membuat manusia harus menyadari keresahan bumi yang usang. Kerusakan bumi yang disebabkan rusaknya lingkungan mengakibatkan lingkungan yang tidak mendukung kesehatan manusia. Rusaknya hutan sebagai paru-paru bumi, menipisnya lapisan ozon sehingga menimbulkan pemanasan global yang membahayakan, serta ulah manusia yang paling sering dilakukan yaitu membuang sampah sembarangan. Penghuni bumi lain, yaitu hewan ikut merasakan dampaknya kehilangan sebagian besar tempat tinggal. Banyak hal yang dapat manusia lakukan untuk membuat umur bumi lebih panjang dengan cara memperbaiki lingkungan. Bisa dimulai oleh hal-hal kecil dan paling mendasar yang dimulai dari diri sendiri, yaitu membiasakan gaya hidup sehat. Sehat bagi manusia dan bagi lingkungan. Contoh sederhana yaitu menanami kebun dirumah dengan bunga atau sayuran, mulai mengurangi penggunaan kendaraan bermesin yang menimbulkan polusi melainkan mulai menggunakan kendaraan yang ramah lingkungan, mengganti tas plastik dengan tas kain yang dapat dipakai lagi dan membiasakan diri merasa bersalah apabila membuang sampah ditempat yang tidak seharusnya. Hal-hal seperti itu biasa disebut gerakan Go Green. Gerakan tersebut sebetulnya sudah ada, tetapi masih sedikit masyarakat yang sadar akan pentingnya Go Green. Nah, kesadaran itu perlu ditingkatkan supaya dapat mewujudkan lingkungan yang sehat. Berbagai komunitas juga telah banyak melakukan aksi penyuluhan mengajak masyarakat untuk mengurangi limbah plastik dengan cara mengolah limbah plastik menjadi barang yang berguna dan memiliki nilai jual. Masih banyak kegiatan yang bisa dilakukan agar lingkungan dapat tetap mendukung kesehatan manusia, seperti program sejuta pohon, penghematan air, dan reboisasi. Tetapi, tetap harus menumbuhkan kesadaran diri terlebih dahulu dengan hal yang dapat dimulai dari diri sendiri.

“Going Green—Education for Sustainability,” a German-American blended learning project for the EFL and STEM classrooms, asks students to challenge commonly held stereotypes about how both cultures approach sustainable development. Since the pilot project (2014), over 3,000 secondary school students in Germany and the US have enrolled in a shared learning management system (Moodle), worked collaboratively both online and offline, developed green action plans and shared them with the school and wider community as part of a competition.

This article outlines the conceptual perspective of Going Green that includes the aspects of (a) teaching ‘publics,’ (b) countering expectations and misconceptions, (c) raising awareness of counter-narratives, and (d) expanding the knowledge base of the target culture (sustainable policies in the US). These components together facilitate learning objectives beyond interactional and communicative competencies by promoting learner agency and community-based actions. Attitudinal data drawn from the last two project cycles (2016–17, 2017–18) reflect a heterogeneous view of learners’ expectations and understandings regarding sustainable policies in the US and Germany. Finally, we investigate how narratives and counter-narratives of sustainable development on both sides of the Atlantic can be exploited in the technology-enhanced foreign language classroom in order to facilitate the aforementioned goals.

Pencemaran Udara dan Global Warming Aktifitas industri, rumah tangga, dan sebagainya secara tidak disadari oleh sebagian besar masyarakat dapat menimbulkan pencemaran. Gas CO dapat dihasilkan dari gas buang kendaraan bermotor dan pembakaran sampah. CO bersama gas lainnya (CO 2 , metana, ozon, dan N 2 O) di atmosfer akan membentuk gas rumah kaca yang menyelubungi bumi. Gas rumah kaca ini akan menyerap panas matahari sehingga tidak dapat dipantulkan kembali ke angkasa. Akhirnya, suhu bumi meningkat yang menyebabkan fenomena-fenomena alam yang dapat merugikan makhluk hidup di bumi. Contohnya adalah naiknya suhu bumi. Fenomena alam ini disebut dengan Global warming atau pemanasan global. Pentingnya Udara Bersih Udara merupakan faktor kehidupan yang penting bagi makhluk hidup tak terkecuali bagi manusia. Hampir setiap harinya kita membutuhkan berliter-liter udara bersih yang digunakan untuk aktifitas metabolisme sehari-hari seperti perombakan makanan menjadi energi. Pencemaran udara yang terjadi sampai saat ini karena masuknya gas atau polutan ke dalam udara dapat menurunkan jumlah udara bersih sehingga konsumsi udara bersih pun menurun. Sedikitnya udara bersih yang kita hirup dapat memunculkan berbagai penyakit yang berbahaya. Diantaranya sesak nafas, radang paru-paru, keracunan dan sebagainya. Sehingga jika tidak ditanggulangi dengan segera akan membahayakan kesehatan manusia, hewan, dan tumbuhan.

At the end of the last century Anastasia, the heroine of the "Ringing Cedars of Russia" book series inspired people to create family homesteads in the form of Kin's domains which has turned out into national movement with more than 400 eco-communities of Kin's domains developing now in Russia.

A Kin's domain is a piece of land at least 1 hectare (2.5 acres) in size owned and developed by an individual or a family who prefer living their lives in nature, off the grid, to the hustle and bustle of city life. They provide a sustainable way of living which also helps improve the quality of our planet.
Why one hectare? Because this is a sufficient minimum amount of land sizable enough to sustain the basic life-long and multi-generational needs of each family or domain settler. This is an amount of land that can be stewarded sustainably by the efforts of an individual or family, without becoming too difficult to manage and that can be managed without the need for heavy industrial agricultural machinery or harmful chemicals and fertilizers or pesticides and without the need for reliance on declining fossils fuels.

Each Kin's Domain is created with the specific goal of being a self sufficient area that can support all the basic human needs of the owner including life-long food production, shelter and water supply. Each domain is designed with the specific intent of surrounding the home by a supportive natural eco-system that will additionally support the domain owner by providing the clean air created by oxygen producing plant life, creation of forest land for the optional use of timber for seasonal home heating needs etc and a wide variety of other plant life with a focus on edible perennials as well as plants that can be grown for medicinal purposes.

Each domain settler or family owns their own land. It is not owned by the community. The reason for this is so that they can fully invest in the beautifying of the land by restoring natural systems and commit to making a lifetime long-term investment, first in the initial restoration of the land followed by the lifelong stewardship of their land plot which can then remain in the family and be passed on to successive generations.

A Kin's Domain differs from the eco-village or commune model where each individual is dependent on the collective always functioning and properly working together to meet the basic needs of all its individuals especially in matters of food production. On a Kin Domain each family/settler's goal is to become self sufficient, to stand on their own, with the surrounding domains creating a strong supportive network and community.
Of course, there is a great need for working together in a Kin community, and this vital work must begin before even a single person builds their own unique domain. Much forethought and planning is needed. In each village of Kin's Domains there will most likely be land that is shared by the collective community. This shared land could include such areas as:

* a shared lake or large body of water, * a school, * a community meeting centre, * community agricultural lands or pasture, * a visitor’s centre, * forest lands, * riverside, * roadway access,  and more....
