The COVID-19 pandemic has had a severe impact worldwide. Developed countries, such as the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain, had their highly efficient medical infrastructure greatly stressed and suffered from high death tolls. Similarly, Bangladesh, a poverty-stricken South Asian country, is losing its battle against the pandemic, but mainly because of its incompetent healthcare system. The casualties are escalating and public sufferings are becoming unimaginable. On this backdrop, this perspective piece discusses the healthcare crisis in Bangladesh during the pandemic. This article also identifies three responsible issues for the country’s deteriorating health care: 1) poor governance and increased corruption, 2) inadequate healthcare facilities, and 3) weak public health communication.

Health communication, which is as essential as health, needs to be reexamined in developing and changing circumstances. In the pandemic, the health sector was intensely affected, as in all areas. In this process, the need for communication technologies has increased. Some that are already being digitalized have gained momentum and have been subjected to digital transformation. Following this, we are in a period where health care professionals and patients are using these technologies intensively. With the pandemic, old habits have changed, and new ones that are important for digital skills have been replaced. Many digital things have been included in our lives, such as video conferences, events starting with "distance" Therefore, to understand the new communication opportunities in health, these developments in digitalization and health have required detailed analysis. With this study, in-depth information was tried to be obtained by conducting qualitative research about health care professionals and their use of communication technologies. As a result of the analysis, four themes related to technology usage reasons and the perception of health care employees were obtained. Accordingly, the use of communication technologies in health communication has increased. Health care professionals and their patients use phones and tablets to accomplish their communicative activities and benefit from various aspects.
