Tourism as we know is the fastest growing industry across the Globe in the modern times. It not only generates employment opportunities in a particular region or a country but also contributes spontaneously to generate foreign exchange earnings. This paper noted the remarkable growth in International tourist arrivals and international tourism receipts. It is found that the tourism activities were still concentrated in the developed nations of Europe and Americas, and Asia and the Pacific regions. Maturity of the tourism sector in India was indicated by the high tourist arrivals and tourism receipts and the steady growth rates. The remarkable growth rate in tourist arrivals and tourism receipts are attributed to the technological, economic, social, cultural, ecological, institutional and political developments of the post-World War II era. The Tourism Vision and its types outlined in this paper noted a bright future for domestic tourism in the coming years. The Ministry of Tourism designs national policies for the development and promotion of tourism. In the process, the Ministry consults and collaborates with other stakeholders in the sector including various Central Ministries/agencies, state governments, Union Territories and the representatives of the private sector.

Tourism has strong linkage with the economic growth and development in India. Because of its maximum backward and forward linkages, tourism contributed more in the income and
employment generation in India. However, the development of the tourism sector in India also raises some of the issues related to the environment. This paper is an overview on the environmental issues of tourism development in the context of India Tourism. Observational approach has been used in the present study. In addition, pictorial presentation has been made to highlight the mounting effects of tourism in India. The findings of the study revealed that an environmental issue of tourism in India is different per region or state. From the theoretical perspective carrying capacity, land degradation, pollution, deforestation, climate changes, solid wastes etc have been viewed as important environmental effects of tourism development. A detail study on Environmental Impact Assessment is, therefore, needed in different region of India for the sustainable management and environment protection.

One top agenda of union government is to increase India’s share in world tourist arrivals from the present 0.68% to 1% by 2020 and further increase it to 2% by 2025. Therefore, Visa Online (or called e-Tourist Visa) with Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) Policy launched by the Govt. of India on November 27, 2014 initially for 43 countries and this list is keep on increasing with every foreign tour of our PM. The official figure has suggested that there is 2.4% growth of foreign tourist arrivals between January to April, 2015 as compared to last year. But the major boom lies in inbound tourist numbers which registered a rise up to 1086.3% on-year in January to April 2015 just because of e-Tourist Visa. And total 94,998 tourists arrived on e-Tourist Visa, as compared with 8,008 under the earlier TVoA Scheme last year.

Unsurprisingly, efforts to exploit film tourism have emerged at a national, state and business level. This chapter enhances the understanding of India’s film tourism and efforts to establish a film tourism destination. These efforts included greater coordination between national and state governments to attract and facilitate film production. Added is a tourism strategy emphasis, in part, on film tourism, coupled with the added use of film in tourism promotions. Film tourism is an evident phenomenon around the country, though mostly at film studio locations. Other accounts provide limited support for an effect on tourist demand and lack of film-specific tourist attractions. However, the vast Indian film presence indicates subtle roles in tourism, establishing or reinforcing perceptions and stirring motivations to visit the range of pre-established attractions across the country. Future research on the subtle role of film on India’s tourists and the filmic representations of the people is recommended. Overall, film tourism in India has much emerging potential.
