Introduction: Emotions in the process of information retrieval have a remarkable impact and importance as every human activity and behavior is under the influence of emotions. It is an issue that has received little attention in the field of information retrieval. Therefore, the present study aims to describe the role and application of emotions and emotion theories in information retrieval. Emotions influence our information attitudes and relevance judgments, which in turn influence the decisions we make about information resources. Methodology: The current research has been done by the library method. The necessary data were gathered through the printed and electronic information resources available in libraries and on the Internet, in English and Persian databases. Findings: Emotions are an integral part of all human activities, including information retrieval activities, containing information behaviors (information seeking, information foraging, search strategies, and information use), and human interaction with the computer. Emotions play a significant role in retrieving a variety of text, audio, and video sources. Positive emotions facilitate successful behavior, and negative emotions impede the proper function of a person. Conclusion: Understanding the emotions in different stages of information retrieval and utilizing theories of emotions to understand the causes of emotions and factors affecting emotions would be an important step in controlling emotions and increasing the positive emotions in the process of information retrieval. It will also help designers of information systems and librarians to provide more desirable and user-friendly services.

This study investigates the perceived level and sources of learning Online Information Searching (OIS) skills of the students of business studies. The study also explores the differences in the students' searching skill level of information resources, based on their selected personal and academic variables including gender, age, type of university, level of degree and major academic subjects. A cross-sectional survey research method was used to collect data on a self-reporting questionnaire. Business students of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels from 24 public and private sector universities of Lahore, Pakistan were selected through convenient sampling technique. Total population of this study was 114,500. With the margin error of 5% and confidence level of 97%, the sample of this study was 470 students. The study found a satisfactory level of students' searching skills. There was no significant difference in the skills based on various variables like gender, age, type of university and level of degree. However, short courses and training workshops had a positive impact on the level of skills. There is a lack of research on the topic and this paper will fill the gap in existing literature. This study will be helpful for Library Information Service (LIS) academicians, librarians, professional associations and LIS trainers to design and implement training programs for university students in the area of OIS. This study will also be helpful for Higher Education Commission (HEC) national digital library for selection of appropriate databases for business students.

This study assesses the information search behaviour of medical students when searching for a medical type task. Previous research provide information on the general search traits of medical students. This study shows how medical students search for medical information online for specific medical tasks. It examines the demographic variables that influence medical students search behaviour when searching across varying levels of task difficulty. Detailed aspects of a search session are analysed to examine this effect. Search sessions are broadly classified into: (a) querying details, (b) search results interaction details and (c) querying versus clicking behaviour and task completion time. An interactive information retrieval experiment type methodology (IIR) is used to study the interactive searching behaviour. A total of sixty (60) medical students participated in this study. Personal task and simulated situations were used to invoke the information search process. Results indicate that medical students issued long queries, were active in locating results and were slow and unproductive when searching on a difficult task. Demographic variables did not influence the search behaviour of medical students when searching across varying levels of task difficulty. Results of this study provide an understanding of the information search behaviour of medical students when searching for medical information online across varying levels of task difficulty. It also shows that demographic variables did not influence search behaviour when searching across varying level of task difficulty.

This is the executive summary and an infografic if the study search.find.evaluate.com. The study was carried out by the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (Fachhochschule Oberösterreich) and commissioned by the National Network of Youth Information Centres in Austria (Bundesnetzwerk Österreichische Jugendinfos, short BÖJI), with the kind support of the Federal Chancellery, division Families and Youth (Bundeskanzleramt Sektion Familien und Jugend). The aim was to gain insight into the research behaviour of Austrian adolescents. To this end, 19 young people (aged 12-16) from four federal states were asked to carry out research tasks on a laptop or mobile phone. The search processes were documented and analysed. Subsequently, the young people were interviewed about their approach by means of a qualitative guided interview. The paper contrasts two paradigms of learning, information seeking and use: the prevalent (mainstream) cognitivist paradigm on the one hand, and lesser-known action-oriented approaches on the other. Cognitivist applications on disciplinary learning and information seeking imply a two-stage model of learning, where the student in the first step finds the needed information and in the second step learns from it. At a practical level, this sequential conception has some substantial consequences for information seeking/searching and behavior, some of which are outlined in the paper. The main part of this contribution is a deconstruction of the cognitive assumptions about learning and seeking/searching in the light of action-oriented approaches. We develop two types of action-oriented approach. The first approach, which comes from Critical Psychology, understands learning as a primarily social phenomenon. In contrast to the cognitivist conception, learning is here substantialized through social interactions and conceptualized epistemologically as dialectic. The second approach stems from Agential Realism and brings forward a somewhat radical critique of the cognitivist approach and of the Critical Psychology approach as well. Both have a significant impact on conceptions of information seeking/searching and information literacy.

Problem/theoretical outline During a pandemic situation, searching and retrieving relevant and accurate health information is a crucial factor. Nowadays with the technological development, people have so many different ways to access information in many formats. However, the Internet was identified as the source that used more commonly to search for health information (Fox & Duggan, 2013). The evolution of the Internet provided social media platforms that are very popular among the general public in the creation and sharing information with anyone, anywhere, anytime. Some researchers have identified that people are using social media in disaster communication Sri Lanka is a small island situated in the Indian Ocean with roughly 22 million population. To prevent the disease spreading, the Sri Lankan government announced an island-wide lockdown. As a result of that, Sri Lankans have to rely on online and digital media for searching information related to COVID-19. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine the social media usage of Sri Lankans during the COVID-19 pandemic situation to retrieve information related to Coronavirus. Design Primary data for this study was obtained through an online questionnaire prepared using Google forms. Five-point Likert scale was used in the questionnaire (Always, Often, Sometimes, Rarely, Never). The questionnaire link was distributed among Sri Lankans using Facebook,
