The current dynamics of information and the recent technological revolution has compelled academic libraries worldwide to embrace web technologies. The focus of this study is to assess the extent of utilisation of social networking tools adopted in the well-resourced public universities in Ghana. The study used quota sampling to select 32 professional librarians from UG, KNUST, UDS and UCC to answer questionnaires. Simple descriptive tools such as charts and percentage tables were used to present the findings of the study. The study exposed that, the most utilised social networking tool used among professional librarians was Facebook then Instant messaging. However, librarians were aware and sometimes use LinkedIn, Twitter, Blogs, Wikis, Flickr, Slideshare, and YouTube, Professional librarians used social networking tools for dissemination of library news, library events, group discussion, general library information, sharing e-resources, and offering library resources. Therefore, i...

Research is commonly referred to search for knowledge. Research is an art of scientific investigation. And it also requires to systematic design, collection, analysis and reporting the findings and solutions. Researchers are adopting various methodologies for collecting data. Under that survey method is one of important tool to collect the data. So herewith in this article let us see the utilization of online survey tools for collecting data. And discuss about how to upload the questionnaire and analysis the collected data with the help of survey monkey. All commercial survey tools are more or less same in feature and techniques. As my research study has been carried out with the survey monkey, here with am discussing with survey monkey tool. Introduction: Due to explosion of ICT, the data collection and analysis are made easier. The prime target of the researcher is to collect the data and analyze the data for findings. The revolutionary innovations of Internet technologies have changed the ways in which people think, communicate and search information immediately. In this context, libraries have great challenges before them. Researchers often do not have sufficient time to conduct comprehensive online searches to locate the latest information relevant to their areas of specialty. Despite an increasing availability of online content and a continuing need to have the latest information easily accessible, a new method is needed to bring ...

In the 20th century great changes took place as a result of experiments and development in broad range of human activities, in economics, politics, and science especially medical science. Medical science is a fast changing field. In fact, the whole concept of diagnosing and treating a patient is modifying rapidly and hospitals of the future will treat patients from all over the world without geographical limitations. It is well said that from the elite class to the general masses, the cultivation of the righteous life is the foundation for all [1]. The library plays a vital role in the teaching and learning environment. Technology is changing the very nature of libraries. This has resulted in digitization. Digital and virtual libraries, which play an important role in e-learning, are fast emerging as a result of integration of varied technologies [2]. The role of the health science library is to provide a learning center where practitioners and administrators can develop the skills ...

Introduction Marketing of library and information services is essential. Libraries have used marketing channels such as the traditional media: newspapers, corporate newsletters, radio, and TV. Many libraries produce brochures, pathfinders, and their own newsletters. It is not surprising to see libraries using blogs as marketing tools as well. A blog is a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order. They can provide commentary and information on a particular subject or act as a more personal online diary. Blogs combine text, images, and links to other related or interesting sites. Readers can leave comments, making blogs interactive. Most blogs are text, although there are also photoblogs, sketchblogs, video blogs (vlog), or audio blogs (podcasting). These are all part of the wider network of social media. The term "weblog" (later shortened to blog) was coined by Jorn Barger in December 1997. The first weblog...

Libraries are increasingly adopting cloud computing, a new technology model for Information Technology (IT) services. Cloud computing is of interest to health care professionals as well as health consumers. Health Science libraries maintain more control over the applications and data repositories that contain sensitive, private information about patrons. Provision and maintenance of infrastructure for web-based digital library presents several challenges. It allows them to avoid locally hosting multiple servers, housing massive equipment and constantly dealing with hardware failure, software installs, upgrades and compatibility issues. This paper describes the concept, current status of cloud computing and its application in health science libraries. Then it proposed to improve current user service via cloud computing.

A study was conducted at Pramukhswami Medical College and Shree Krishna Hospital in Karamsad, Gujarat, India, from June 2007 to August 2007 to assess computer and Internet knowledge and usage among affiliated health care professionals in order to understand their information-seeking behavior. Search habits of Internet users at Pramukhswami Medical College and Shree Krishna Hospital were identified via a questionnaire. Results showed that all respondents used the Internet frequently for various purposes: accessing online journals, downloading text, chatting, participating in discussions, managing e-mail, and finding related references. It was determined that the professionals received quality information through the Internet and that Google and Yahoo! search engines were more widely used compared to other search engines. The study revealed high computer usage among health care professionals at institutions with good computer facilities. The majority expressed their willingness to undergo further training.

From this survey it was found that most of the research scholars i.e. (Doctors, Physicians, Medical officers, Interns, Post Graduate students, Residents) are referring to e-journals, as well as print journals from their departmental library as well as computer center in the central library. The main aim of consulting these journals is for retrieving information regarding research, dissertation, presentations, seminars, lectures, treatment protocols for unusual cases and journal clubs etc and largely to update their own knowledge. However, this study also reveals several inherent problems especially with the use of e-journals e.g. Computer illiteracy, lack of computer training, inability of retrieving particular/relevant health based information via various advanced databases like MD-Consult, EBSCO, ProQuest, Science Direct etc. Other mechanical deficits like slow downloading, slow connectivity, and subjective strain to eyes are also present while using e-journals. Moreover problems regarding subscription for a particular time phase are highlighted....

periodicals were through familiar procedures, and budgets were decided on the basis of years of academic
experiences and research needs of the University as well as on the publishing trends. However, the advent of
electronic resources has transformed the work of collection development and their availability is highly demanded.
The collection development program of Library system has always strived to provide information in the most
