The distinctive contribution of sociological social psychology can be referred to as sociological miniaturism, a way of interpreting social processes and institutions that is microsociological more than it is psychological. We argue that social psychology of this variety permits the examination of large-scale social issues by means of investigation of small-scale social situations. The power of this approach to social life is that it permits recognition of the dense texture of everyday life, permits sociologists to understand more fully a substantive domain, and permits interpretive control. In the chapter we provide examples of this approach from two quite distinct theoretical orientations: symbolic interactionism and social exchange theory. Abstract: A case study of the chlor-alkali industry in Western Europe and Japan is presented examining the effects of environmental regulation on technological change. In Western Europe, standards were set for mercury emissions from chlor-alkali plants, which were gradually tightened subsequently. Research and development (R&D) efforts were directed to end-of-pipe technologies as well as process improvements for reducing mercury emissions, rather than to clean technologies, which eliminate mercury from within the production process. With a significant reduction in mercury emissions with end-of-pipe technologies, new plants continued to be built that relied on the mercury process. As long as these relatively new plants could be utilized, technological transition to the clean ion-exchange membrane process remained slow. The success in reducing mercury emissions with end-of-pipe technologies, in effect, helped to prolong the lifetime of the existing mercury process. In Japan, the government introduced policies to phase out the existing mercury process. The strict approach encouraged innovative companies to make R&D efforts on clean technologies, instead of end-of-pipe technologies for pollution abatement. Applied in a hasty and inflexible way, however, the stringent regulation initially induced most of the chlor-alkali producers to choose the diaphragm process, which later turned out to be inappropriate. After the regulatory schedule was modified to allow more time for process conversion, the remaining mercury-based plants were converted directly to the most efficient ion-exchange membrane process. The technological transition, however, was costly, as most of the diaphragm-based plants introduced following the regulatory mandate were operated only for a short period of time, with the large investment wasted.

This study used classical test theory to assess the psychometric properties of the Environmental Rating Scale (ERS), a measure specifically designed to assess the treatment programs in residential settings that serve individuals with autism. Results of the confirmatory factor analysis support the presence of a single factor represented by the total score. The reliability of the measure was demonstrated by assessments of the internal consistency, stability, and interrater reliability. Preliminary analysis of the validity of the ERS indicates that this measure discriminates between treatment settings designed specifically for individuals with autism and those designed for other populations of developmentally handicapped clients and family homes. The ERS was also significantly positively correlated with a measure of the caregiver's knowledge about autism and a visitor's global impression of the desirability of the setting as a place to live.

The paper examined the concept of instructional materials and their production for instructional purposes for art based courses. Effort was made to review literature on the categorization of instructional materials from local materials and how they can be developed and produced for use to enhance effective learning.

availability and utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities by Teacher Educators for making their teaching and learning effective in educational institutions. The study population consisted of all (200) Teacher Educators from the universities and colleges in Haryana. Out of 200 Teacher Educators, 138 were selected using random sampling technique. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentage and chi-square. The study revealed that ICT facilities which serve as a major contributor to effective teaching and learning in teacher education programmes were lacking in traditional colleges, Govt., Non-Govt. aided and purely private colleges. Exposure of the students and teachers to ICT facilities was low. There were visible ICT facilities in some of the private and govt. technical colleges and in some of the technical colleges it was excellent though majority of them were private colleges. The study recommends among others strategies for its (ICT) maximum utilization; and that ICT facilities should be made available for effective teaching and learning of teacher education programmes. The present text constitutes a preliminary exercise in investigating the productive consequences for psychoanalysis of a Zizekian reading of Lacan. By providing a new periodization of Lacan’s teaching - one which renders legible an insisting and unresolved impasse in psychoanalytic thinking, tying together its clinical, conceptual and institutional dimensions - we intend to demonstrate how the Zizekian theoretical space is capable of thinking continuous and immanent transformations between philosophy, psychoanalysis and politics. In our periodization of Lacan’s teaching, this perspective renders legible a philosophically instigating emergence of certain intrinsically political concerns at the heart of psychoanalytic thinking itself.

Saffronisation, a neologism that is derived from the saffron robes worn in particular by holy Hindu men, is used to denote the conflation of linguistic, semiotic and political actions taken by the far-right Hindu nationalist brotherhood in India to mechanically alter Indian history so that it resonates with the rest of the Hindu nationalist propaganda and policymaking. The process of Saffronisation, when coupled with westernised pedagogical curricula, has been inculcated within and beyond the periphery of educational institutions since the early twentieth century. This paper explores the impact of Saffroni-sation as a socio-political movement on educational institutions, the changes that have been made in textbooks in the recent times and in a holistic sense, attempts to analyse the effects of a neo-Fascist governance on schooling and how it affects students hailing from backgrounds that have been marginalised for generations. It is also an exploration of the role of the saffron propaganda in enabling otherisation of non-Hindu identities in higher education institutions.
