Mobile operators currently prefer optimizing their radio networks via re-homing or cutting over the cell sites in 2G
or 3G networks. The core network, as the parental part of radio network, is inevitably impacted by the re-homing in radio domain. This paper introduces the cell site re-homing in radio network and analyzes its impact on the performance of GSM/UMTS core network. The possible re-homing models are created and analyzed for core networks. The paper concludes that appropriate re-homing in radio domain, using correct algorithms, not only optimizes the radio network but also helps improve the QoS of the core network and saves the carriers’ OPEX and CAPEX on their core networks

Abstract:
Digital age is started with introduction of the personal computer with subsequent technology introduced providing the ability to transfer information freely and quickly. We are in the in the midst of flourishing digital age and the problems of the past are rectified by innovative techniques of the golden digital age especially for the research community. Author Ambiguity Problem was one among the prolonged problem of the research community. But now author identifiers became most powerful rectifier of the problem. By giving an unique ID to each author, we can rectify ‘n’ number of problems regarding ambiguity issues. This paper explains need and various author identifiers as ORCID, ResearcherID and Scopus Author ID and also the comparison of these ID’s.

Anomaly detection has evolved as a successful research subject in the areas such as bibliometrics, informatics and computer networks including security-based and social networks. Almost all existing anomaly detection techniques have some limitations and do not focus specifically on detecting anomalous groups. Anomaly detection is also a crucial problem in processing large-scale datasets when our goal is to find abnormal values or unusual events. The authors decided to survey existing group anomaly detection techniques because there is a need to consider group anomalies for mitigation of risks, prevention of malicious collaborative activities, and other interesting explanatory insights by identifying groups that are not consistent with regular group patterns. In this research, we bifurcated group anomaly detection techniques into activity-based and graph-based methods. The graphical methodologies are then further classified under static versus dynamic and attributed versus plain graph methods. We have also listed the datasets used in various studies to detect group anomalies along with detected anomalies and the various performance measures used to validate the results. Towards the end, we have provided various applications of group anomaly detection and the research challenges that group anomaly detection presents to the scientific community and enlisted some of the future trends for this particular research area.

The primary purpose of research is to enhance the betterment of society by advancing knowledge through the development of scientific theories, concepts, ideas, and new explorations. For attaining the purpose of research-science can be communicated/disseminated in different ways. With the fast pacing age, advanced techniques and ideas for science communication and dissemination have emerged. Academic Social-Networking Sites (ASNS) for Research Communication is one of the major platforms for the scientific community for Academicians and Researchers to share their published and working research ideas. The paper discusses three well-known Academic Social-Networking Sites (i.e. ResearchGate, Google Scholar, and Academia.edu) for Research Communication through the exploratory inductive method.

A cross-cultural explanatory sequential mixed method design was utilized to investigate the implementability of social networking services for educational purposes. It was aimed to shed light on the nature of relationship between the use of social networking services and pre-service teachers’ personality, motivation to use
Facebook, motives to use Facebook, and attitude towards using Facebook. In addition to that, it was aimed to understand the perceived usefulness and feasibility of Social networking services as educational tools and the feelings of the future teachers about
the “appropriateness” of Facebook as an educational implementation. In the quantitative phase of the research, which was carried out in both Turkey and then the United States of America, a correlational study was utilized. For scaling motives,
motivation, personality, Facebook use, and attitude towards using Facebook, five questionnaires which were developed and used in English were translated into Turkish. Multiple linear, ordinal logistic, and binomial logistic regression analyses were conducted for quantitative data analysis. In the qualitative phase, Turkish pre-service teachers were interviewed and a constant comparative analysis was conducted on the transcripts. It was found that personality is not a major predictor of Facebook
use. Pre-service teachers have a positive perception of the use of Facebook for educational purposes in both countries. However, there have been many differences between the two countries’ pre-service teachers in terms of Facebook use and motives. It was demonstrated that pre-service teachers associate Facebook mostly with relationship, communication, and learning and they see Facebook as educationally implementable.

The purpose of this article is to assess the impact of social media on academic performance of selected college students. In this article, the authors raise the actual impact of daily communication of youth in social media. Descriptive research design was utilized to gain accurate profile of situation.Sixty (60) Business Administration and Management Information System students who are actively using social media are the respondents of the study. It was conducted during the summer semester of academic year 2017-2018.Summing-up,social networks becomes an integral part of the students' full life, took up most of their free time.Undoubtedly, in social networks, there are also things useful for the development of the students. In addition, communication with peers through social networks can help a student socialize, find new friends, discuss with them issues related to studies. Thus, it can be concluded that social media have a dual impact on student achievement, and it is necessary to approach adolescents' use of social networks with ultimate responsibility.

This study explored how 26 preservice secondary content teachers perceived their experiences participating in and developing a Twitter-based professional learning network focused on disciplinary literacy. Participants completed blog reflections and anonymous online surveys to reflect on their experiences, which served as data for this study. A phenomenological approach was used to analyze data, and three themes emerged from analysis related to preservice teachers' perceptions: (a) the complexity of posting professional resources and ideas to Twitter, (b) skepticism concerning participation in an online professional learning network, and (c) value in access to multiple educators, disciplinary experts, and classroom resources. Implications for these results are discussed in regard to developing professional learning networks in preservice teacher education to support disciplinary literacy.

ResearchGate and Academia.edu have been increasingly acknowledged as the most popular academic social network sites (ASNS) for scholarly communication. Along with their benefits for supporting communication and knowledge sharing within academic communities, concerns over quality and credibility remain a pertinent issue. In terms of research investigation, ASNS have attracted strong attention for new scholarly practice and their potential for building, maintaining and enhancing reputation. However, a thorough understanding is still lacking of how these sites operate as networked socio-technical systems reshaping scholarly practices and academic identity. This article analyses 39 empirical studies published in peer-reviewed journals with a specific focus on ResearchGate and Academia.edu. The aim is to describe the status of the research and to identify gaps and priorities in the areas of scholarly networked learning and shared knowledge. Results show that the number of studies focusing on ResearchGate was more than double those dedicated to Academia.edu. While both sites have attracted attention in the library and information sciences as deployments for reputation building and alternative ranking systems, such as ResearchGate metrics, there is a dearth of research investigating practices and new modes of communication in the light of a networked participatory approach to scholarship. Most of the studies analysed focused on the general uptake or impact assessment of alternative metrics, while very few investigated individual and collective scholarly practices. This study points to the need for specific research on open and distributed learning achieved in ASNS according to a networked learning perspective.

Social networking is a social structure that allow user to interact and work collaboratively with other users. Today social networking websites are most popular as well as widely used among people of all age group to share interests, information, activities, ideas, thoughts, experiences, or real-life connections. Online social networking platforms have given a new direction in promoting library products and services. However, most of the organizations, including libraries have realized the need of social media networking in their organizations so that social media networking can be used inside the organizations. Now it is time for LIS professionals to embrace a new embedded technology into their day-to-day activities. The aim of the paper is to assess the role of librarians and information science professionals relating to the use of social networking sites in the libraries. This paper deals with concept of social networking and its application to Academic library services for a pro-active awareness and training to educate the LIS professional and the Teaching Faculty, Students and Research Scholars on the invaluable importance of utilizing social networking in academic library services in digital environment.

In the last decade there has been an emergence of Academic Social Networking Sites (ASNSs). Each site offers its own combination of tools and capabilities to support research activities, communication, collaboration, and networking. Given their variety, it might be challenging for academics to evaluate and use them. We conducted an exploratory inductive comparative study of the services and tools of a select set of ASNSs. We argue that maintaining multiple profiles might be time-consuming and propose starting a discussion about how we can make this process less cumbersome. We expect that our findings will help academics and researchers make informed decisions about their choice of ASNS.

This paper analyzes the presence of professors and researchers from the University of Salamanca on two of the main academic social networks: Reasearchgate.net and Academia.edu. The indicators of each network were studied and compared along with the level of collaboration and scientific diffusion of the teaching and research staff at the University of Salamanca. The study was carried out via by analyzing the profiles of 1005 professors and researchers assigned to 28 different departments within the five areas of study around which the university is structured. A transversal analysis was established according to gender as well as the areas and departments in which the professors and researchers worked. It has been concluded that within this scientific community the use of online social networks is limited, with the majority of use purely for diffusion of academic works.

The article works is on impact of social media on the Academic performance of University students in Nigeria. Causal-comparative research design was adopted. The Four tertiary institutions used for study- Nnamdi Azikiwe University-Awka, Delta State University, Abraka, Madonna University Okija campus and Anambra State University. The paper presents how social media platforms can be used as effective tools to
provide innovative library services in a university environment. The data was
collected from both the central and state universities’ websites especially to focus
on the readiness of the university libraries. It is ascertained that how university
libraries integrate these technologies to provide effective library services to the
end users. For the present study, the Global Alexa rankings were considered as the
source for the selection of popular social media platforms. Each of these platforms
is further analyzed to know how these could be used to facilitate information or
provide library services to enhance the quality of the services. The outcome of the
study reveals that the usage of social media in the university libraries in India is
still in the formative stage and needs to gear up to meet the growing expectations
of the users.

There are a variety of platforms that are attempting to become the online faculty lounge where academics can gather to share or crowdsource their research. Along with online profile tools, these sites help to increase your visibility to other academics and also to other people in society who may be interested in your research.  This can result in collaboration with other researchers, increased access to your research work, and increased engagement with the general public, providing benefits to yourself and your academic institution.  The sites enable new reputation metrics  (e.g. inbound citation, readership, follower counts), which may eventually give academics an alternative to the academic journal industry as a means of measuring scholarly impact.

This research presents an overview and historical analysis of academic networks and scientific mobility between Mexico and France. Its objective is to explain how the scientific exchanges between both countries have been developed, from the earliest missions of university professors during the interwar period to the era of the new globalization that began in 1989, with a double focus on the history of science and international relations (from an unusual perspective in science). It tries to emphasize several processes that are manifested in a lapse of time of seven decades: the progressive readjustment of a relationship initially pioneered and promoted by France; the institutionalization of a bilateral cooperation established through key actors, framework agreements, (inter)national programs and various research organizations; and how the Mexican-French scientific cooperation passed from the cultural field to the economic, throughout the decades in which the so-called techno-science was born. It ends with an analysis of the current academic networks between France and Mexico, and their antecedents, using a survey carried out among Mexican and French researchers. 
Through the analysis of archives related to cooperation for scientific exchange between both countries, institutional strengthening is shown, as well as the interests pursued by both nations and their more proactive and equitable relations. On the other hand, this study proposes to observe how the modernization of an emerging country, in this case Mexico, promotes changing its image and power relations, and how a European country like France adapts its diplomacy in order to maintain its influence. At a time when exchanges are increasingly intensified, numerous and diversified, the results of this research show the different stages of scientific exchanges between the two countries, and seeks to define the items and conditions of bilateral scientific cooperation. A diachronic analysis of this term makes it possible to distinguish at least three stages or levels of scientific exchanges. The first, between technical assistance and forms of embryonic cooperation, is characterized by essentially formal and very occasional missions until the beginning of institutionalization (1930-1975). The second teaches us a bottom-up and incremental cooperation, increasingly linked to economic cooperation (1975-1989) and focus on

training. The latter, which began in 1989 after a decade affected by restructuring of the cooperation instruments due to a huge economic crisis, marks a rebalancing of the FrancoMexican bilateral relationship and the multiplication of academic networks, as well as a more intense, and also extended to all scientific areas, circulation of knowledge between both countries.

This study explores the connections between social and usage metrics (altmetrics) and bibliometric indicators at the author level. It studies to what extent these indicators, gained from academic sites, can provide a proxy for research impact. Close to 10,000 author profiles belonging to the Spanish National Research Council were extracted from the principal scholarly social sites: ResearchGate, Academia.edu and Mendeley and academic search engines: Microsoft Academic Search and Google Scholar Citations. Results describe little overlapping between sites because most of the researchers only manage one profile (72%). Correlations point out that there is scant relationship between altmetric and bibliometric indicators at author level. This is due to the almetric ones are site-dependent, while the bibliometric ones are more stable across web sites. It is concluded that altmetrics could reflect an alternative dimension of the research performance, close, perhaps, to science popularization and networking abilities, but far from citation impact.

The current dynamics of information and the recent technological revolution has compelled academic libraries worldwide to
embrace web technologies. The focus of this study is to assess the extent of utilisation of social networking tools adopted in the
well-resourced public universities in Ghana. The study used quota sampling to select 32 professional librarians from UG,
KNUST, UDS and UCC to answer questionnaires. Simple descriptive tools such as charts and percentage tables were used to
present the findings of the study. The study exposed that, the most utilised social networking tool used among professional
librarians was Facebook then Instant messaging. However, librarians were aware and sometimes use LinkedIn, Twitter, Blogs,
Wikis, Flickr, Slideshare, and YouTube, Professional librarians used social networking tools for dissemination of library news,
library events, group discussion, general library information, sharing e-resources, and offering library resources. Therefore, it
was recommended that professional librarians should be encouraged to use the social networking tools for their intended
purposes and observe all ethics regarding it use. Also, the libraries should be stocked with adequate ICT infrastructure and
vibrant internet connectivity to ensure proper functioning and effective usage of networking tools.

This study explores Arab ESL students' perceptions toward integrating web 2.0 tools into today's English writing classroom through survey, interviews, and a classroom observation. It focuses on these research questions; to what extent the Arab English as a second language students have access to social networking websites? What are their perceptions toward integrating social networking websites into today's English writing classroom? Do they think that using social networking websites improves students' writing skills? The study was carried out in an English language institute in Western Kentucky to find out how using blogs and social networking websites develop Arab ESL learners' writing skill. The intended population for this study was a random sample of Arab ESL students in Murray State University English Program in the United States. This study provides answers to some questioning areas of integrating these technologies into English writing traditional classes. Data were collected by surveys, interviews, and an observation designed by the researcher and analyzed by using percentage. The study results indicate that most Arab ESL students agree that integrating social networking websites into today's English writing classroom would improve their writing skills. So, it is recommended to use social networking websites by educators for educational purposes.

My aim is to give a general overview of sources of various information on onomastic studies. Here I argue that onomastic blogs and social network groups may function as an interface between the onomastic community and the public, hence they may be particularly well suited for public outreach and science communication. I will clarify where and how we could be informed about onomastic events and publications, what kind of available sources (web pages, blogs, newsletters, Facebook and Twitter communities, bibliographies, etc.) exist, how they could be used and what kind of developments should be desirable in this field. Working in cooperation with various scientists and new media in pursuit of onomastic information improves the connectivity of onomasticians worldwide. Finally, I will address the issue of the possible onomastic future.

This article focuses on a national study of writing instructors regarding the inclusion of social media in their teaching. The results from this study indicate the field’s burgeoning interest in social media in the writing classroom: as technological tool, as content for analysis, as a composing space, and much more. These findings suggest the value of social media as a pedagogical component and address the potential benefits and challenges for social media’s use in the classroom.

Academic social network sites (ASNS) like ResearchGate and Academia.edu are digital platforms for information sharing and systems for open dissemination of scholarly practices that are gaining momentum among researchers of multiple disciplines. Although ASNS are increasingly transforming scholarly practices and academic identity, a unifying theoretical approach that analyses these platforms at both a systemic/infrastructural and at a personal/individual level is missing. Moreover, despite there is an increasing amount of studies on social media benefits for scholarly networking and knowledge sharing, very few studies have investigated specific benefits of ResearchGate and Academia.edu for scholars' professional development according to a networked learning perspective. This study focuses on academic social network sites as networked socio-technical systems and adopts a three-level analysis related to ASNS as platforms for digital scholarship and scholarly communication. The approach comprises: 1) a macro-level, which constitutes the socioeconomic layer; 2) a meso-level, which comprises the techno-cultural layer; and 3) a micro-level, which constitutes the networked-scholar layer. The study reports on investigations into the technological features provided by ResearchGate and Academia.edu for networked learning that are based on the multilevel approach. The final aim is to exemplify how these digital services are socio-technical systems that support scholars' knowledge sharing and professional learning.

The increasing popularity of academic social networking sites (ASNSs) requires studies on the usage of ASNSs among scholars, and evaluations of the effectiveness of these ASNSs. However, it is unclear whether current ASNSs have fulfilled their design goal, as scholars' actual online interactions on these platforms remain unexplored. To fill the gap, this paper presents a study based on data collected from ResearchGate. Adopting a mixed-method design by conducting qualitative content analysis and statistical analysis on 1128 posts collected from ResearchGate Q&A, we examine how scholars exchange information and resources, and how their practices vary across three distinct disciplines: Library and Information Services, History of Art, and Astrophysics.

The low proportion of women within the subject areas of Theology and Religious Studies has long been observed, and is increasingly recognised as a serious problem for staff and students. In this new study, Mathew Guest, Sonya Sharma and Robert Song chart patterns of gender imbalance among staff and students across UK TRS departments, exploring why such patterns remain so persistent. Drawing on interviews with TRS academics across the country, the report examines the professional life of female university staff, and makes recommendations for how universities might address the inequalities of opportunity and practice that emerge.

The utilization of Social Networking Sites (SNS) for educational reasons is a
contemporary practice that attracts the interest of researchers, particularly as regards
the desired compatibilities and its acceptance. Our study attempts an inventory of
relevant trends that are expanded among the students of Hellenic Open University. In
the research were investigated the factors that affect students’ availability for SNS
utilization, in other words contribute to the shaping of attitudes. The sample was
random. According the quantitative results there are not such influences derived from
demographic traits like sex, age, housing area and level of study, such as also from
experience of computer use. Instead, the use of SNS and students’ aspects on
cooperative learning are strong prognostic factors for availability. Our similar
hypotheses about students’ points of view on risks arising from SNS use and its
satisfaction of studies don’t come true.

Η αξιοποίηση των Μέσων Κοινωνικής Δικτύωσης (ΜΚΔ) για εκπαιδευτικούς
σκοπούς αποτελεί σύγχρονη πρακτική που προσελκύει το ερευνητικό ενδιαφέρον,
αναφορικά, κυρίως, με τις επιζητούμενες συμβατότητες και το βαθμό αποδοχής της.
Η μελέτη μας επιχειρεί μια καταγραφή των σχετικών τάσεων που διαμορφώνονται
μεταξύ των φοιτητών του ΕΑΠ. Η έρευνα διενεργήθηκε σε τυχαίο δείγμα,
εξετάζοντας παράγοντες που δυνητικά επηρεάζουν τη διαθεσιμότητα των εξ
αποστάσεως φοιτητών για αξιοποίηση των ΜΚΔ στις σπουδές, δηλαδή συμβάλλουν
στη διαμόρφωση των στάσεων. Σύμφωνα με τα ποσοτικά αποτελέσματα δεν
ασκούνται τέτοιες επιδράσεις από δημογραφικά χαρακτηριστικά (φύλο, ηλικία,
περιοχή, σπουδές) και από την εμπειρία χρήσης ηλεκτρονικού υπολογιστή, όπως
συμβαίνει με την εξοικείωση στα ΜΚΔ. Σε ισχυρό προβλεπτικό παράγοντα
αναδεικνύονται οι απόψεις των φοιτητών για τη συνεργατική μάθηση, ενώ δεν
επαληθεύονται ανάλογες υποθέσεις μας σχετικά με τις αντιλήψεις τους για κινδύνους
που ενέχει η χρήση των ΜΚΔ και με το επίπεδο ικανοποίησής τους από τις σπουδές
τους.

Purpose: The main objective of this article is to detect and describe disciplinary differences in the users and use of severa
l social networking sites by scientists. 
Design/methodology/approach: Consejo Superior de In
vestigaciones Científicas (CSIC) (Spanish National Research Council) researchers registered in the most currently relevant academic social network sites (Google Scholar Citations,
Academia.edu, ResearchGate and Mendeley) were analysed. 6,132 profiles were classified according the eight research areas of the CSIC. 
Findings: Results show that Academia.edu is massively populated by humanists and social scientists, while ResearchGate is popular among biologists. Disciplinary
differences are observed across every platform. Thus, scientists from the humanities and social sciences and natural resources show a significant activity contacting other
members. On the contrary, biologists are more passive using social tools .
Originality/value: This is the first study that analyses the disciplinary performance of a same sample of researchers on a varied number of academic social sites, comparing their numbers across websites.

Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to compare four popular academic social networking sites (ASNSs), namely, ResearchGate, Academia.edu, Mendeley and Zotero. Design/methodology/approach-Evaluation method has been used with the help of checklist covering various features of ASNSs. A structured checklist has been prepared to compare four popular ASNSs, comprising 198 dichotomous questions divided into 12 broad categories. Findings-The study found that performance of ASNSs using the latest features and services is not up to the mark, and none of the site is rated as "Excellent". The sites lack in incorporation of session filters; output features; privacy settings and text display; and search and browsing fields. Availability of bibilographic features and general features is poor in these sites. Further, altmetrics and analytics features are not incorporated properly. User interface of the sites need to improve to draw researchers to use them. The study report reveals that ResearchGate scored the highest, 61.1 per cent points, and was ranked "above average", followed by Academia.edu with 48.0 per cent and Mendeley with 43.9 per cent are ranked "average". However, the Zotero (38.9 per cent) was ranked "below average". Practical implications-Accreditation agencies can identify suitable sites in the evaluation of institutions' research output. Further, students and faculty members can choose the site suiting their needs. Library and information science professionals can use the checklist to impart training to the academic community which can help fostering research and development activities. Originality/value-The study identifies features that ought to be available in a model ASNS. These features are categorized into 12 broad categories. The findings can also be used by developers of the sites to enhance functionalities. Institutions can choose suitable sites while collaborating with other institutions.

In recent years, several works have been published on the history of anthropology in specific national contexts (e.g., Stocking 1974, 1995; Kuklick 1991; Barth et al. 2005; Ranzmaier 2011) but little on the history of anthropology in Portugal—and the exceptions have largely been written from and for the Portuguese community (e.g., Areia and Rocha 1985; Branco 1986; Pereira 1986, 1998; Pina-Cabral 1991; Leal 2000, 2006; Roque 2001; Santos 2005; Sobral 2007; Matos 2013). Even then, with the exception of some authors such as Guimarães (1995), Pereira(1998),Roque(2001),Santos(2005),andmyownwork(Matos 2013), it has been uncommon for Portuguese anthropologists and historians to recognize the existence of a distinct school of anthropology connected to the city of Porto, originating with the Portuguese Society of Anthropology and Ethnology (spae, Sociedade Portuguesa de Antropologia e Etnologia) and its legacy. This chapter intends, therefore , to contribute to a more inclusive international history of anthropology , as suggested by Richard Handler (2000), who reminded us of the need to interpret past anthropological practices in relation to specific historical and cultural moments.

Soziale Netzwerkseiten (SNS) sind seit der Jahrtausendwende ein zunehmend prägendes Phänomen im World Wide Web, das sich sukzessive über sämtliche Funktionsbereiche der Gesellschaft erstreckt und ihre Kommunikationsstrukturen beeinflusst. Auch das Wissenschaftssystem ist vom Versprechen affiziert, dass ihre ‚soziale‘ Verknüpfungslogik die eigene Kommunikation intensivieren und mannigfaltige Optimierungsmöglichkeiten bieten könnte. Insbesondere Akademische Soziale Netzwerkseiten (ASNS) wie ResearchGate, Academia.edu und Mendeley sind der sichtbare Ausdruck einer Entwicklung, die sich im Rahmen der umfassenden Digitalisierung der Publikations- und Reputationskultur in den Wissenschaften vollzieht.


Aufbauend auf einer initialen Skizze der Entwicklungstendenzen im wissenschaftlichen Publikationswesen wird zunächst die medienspezifische Funktionsökonomie von SNS skizziert und auf die ASNS übertragen. Daran anknüpfend werden anhand der Forschungsliteratur die zentralen Nutzungsmotive und -muster von Wissenschaftlern skizziert, das Verhältnis der ASNS-Nutzung zu institutionellen Open Access-Policies beleuchtet, und schließlich die Konsequenz der ASNS-Ökonomie vor dem Hintergrund szientometrischer Debatten diskutiert. Abschließend wird die Frage erörtert, welche Handlungszwänge bzw. -impulse sich hieraus für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken ergeben können.

Konferenzen, Kongresse und Tagungen ermöglichen Menschen, auch außerhalb ihres eigenen Arbeitsfelds neue Kontakte für innovative Kooperationen zu knüpfen. Durch empirische Netzwerkanalysen konnte jedoch gezeigt werden, dass sich Teilnehmer von Veranstaltungen nicht so vernetzen, wie sie das gerne hätten.

This study investigated student’s use of different social media tools, their perceptions and attitudes towards these tools, their preference of social media for instructional purpose, and acceptance of social media among, pre-service teachers in Nigeria and Rwanda. This study adopted a comparative survey design, and Nigeria and Rwanda were chosen as sample region through purposive sampling. The population of the study included 487 higher education students of the faculty of education; 246 of them were Nigerians and 241 were Rwandese. They comprised of 212 male and 267 females. The findings of the study revealed that pre-service teachers in both countries have adequate knowledge of different type of social media sites. The findings show that the level of preference of social media site is very high in both countries among the pre-service teachers. Pre-service teachers in both countries are willing to use social media technology to support learning. Pre-service teachers in both countries have a positive attitude towards the use of social media for instruction purposes p<0.05). Also, Facebook was discovered to be the most popular social networking site among them followed by Twitter and Google+. Rwandese pre-service teachers used Skype more than their counterparts in Nigeria. Based on these findings recommendations were made that establishment of educational technology units in the faculties of education in Rwanda, also curricular underlying teacher educational programs should ensure that these knowledge and beliefs are emphasized when designing educational technology courses as well as modifying the content the courses so that student teachers have greater engagement in technology. Nigeria still has a lot to explore in the use of social media for instruction purpose therefore further in-depth studies should be carried out.
