Literature and Geography

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é discutir a potencialidade da literatura infantojuvenil nas aulas de Geografia, a qual trata da organização e fenômenos geográficos do/no espaço agrário. A metodologia empregada foi baseada na leitura e análise de duas obras literárias infantojuvenis, que integram uma coleção organizada pela editora Expressão Popular. A primeira obra, intitulada "Semente de letra", tem como plano de fundo um assentamento rural e retrata o cotidiano camponês, falando de temas como: importância da leitura, luta pela conquista da terra e organização interna. "Pascoalzinho pé-no-chão: uma fábula da reforma agrária" é a segunda obra e trata de temas como a expropriação do campesinato, territorialização do capital e migração campo-cidade. Com base nesses livros buscou-se demonstrar que a literatura é uma importante aliada no ensino de Geografia, pois além de possibilitar aulas que não fiquem restritas ao uso do livro didático, fomenta o hábito da leitura e torna as aulas diferentes, podendo contribuir para que o processo de ensino-aprendizagem seja eficaz ao proporcionar um campo fértil para a criticidade dos discentes.

Abstract The objective of this article is to discuss the potential of children and youth literature in Geography classes that deals with the organization and geographical phenomena of/in the agrarian space. The methodology used was based on the reading and analysis of two children and youth literary works that are part of a collection organized by the Expressão Popular (popular expression) publisher. The first work is entitled "Semente de Letra" (letter seed), it has as background a rural settlement and portrays the daily life of the cropper, and talks about themes such as: the importance of reading, struggle for land conquest, internal organization, among others. "Pascoalzinho pé-no-chão: uma fábula da Reforma Agrária" (Little Pascoal, down to earth: A tale about the Agrarian Reform) is the second work, it deals with themes such as the expropriation of the peasantry, the territorialization of funds, migration from rural areas to cities, among others. Based on these oeuvre, we pursued to demonstrate that literature is an important ally in the teaching of Geography, because besides allowing classes that are not restricted to the use of textbooks, it also promotes the habit of reading and makes classes different, while contributing with the teaching-learning process effectiveness, by providing a fertile field for the critical development of the students.
