Resumo: Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar a política externa do Brasil na área de defesa do Atlântico Sul, focando na cooperação Sul-Sul do Brasil com a Namíbia. Para tanto, será realizada uma breve abordagem histórica da cooperação entre o Brasil e países do continente africano, destacando especificamente a cooperação com a Namíbia na área de defesa naval. Levando em consideração a aproximação cada vez maior da China com este país, é destacado o impacto da expansão da influência chinesa na cooperação Brasil-Namíbia na esfera de defesa do entorno estratégico do Atlântico Sul. Este estudo utiliza o método bibliográfico para promover uma análise histórica das relações mencionadas e faz uso da técnica de entrevista para obter informações primárias sobre o tema. Por fim, este artigo promove uma análise comparativa das relações do Brasil e da China com a Namíbia, diante da abordagem analítica proposta por Alfred Thayer Mahan (1890), que enfatiza a importância da expansão naval para projeção de poder nacional

Published in cooperation with the National Maritime Historical Society, the selections chosen for this anthology of primary texts and images place equal emphasis on the ages of sail and steam, on the Atlantic and Pacific, on the Gulf Coasts and the Great Lakes, and on the high seas and inland rivers.
The texts have been chosen to provide students with interesting, usable, and historically significant documents that will prompt class discussion and critical thinking. In each case, the material is linked to the larger context of American history, including issues of gender, race, power, labor, and the environment.
