The paper presents a discussion about the understanding of deafness as focus or matrix of experience. Therefore, it stresses ways of being deaf produced and regulated in deaf educability contexts according to the foucauldian studies in Education. It uses the governmentality as an intelligibility grid, which are inscribed practices of deaf constitution, and operates with the normalization, the government and the subjectivity as theorical-methodological tools. From the discussion, highlighted the description of three axes that constitute deafness as matrix of experience: the production of knowledge about deafness and deaf people, the normativity of their behaviors and their ways of subjectivation.
