There aren’t many pieces of furniture made nationally, that marked thePortuguese interiors in the way Bufete did. These tables as well as cabinet(contador) and chests of wave mouldings (tremidos), camas de bilros andchairs of carved leather, are the most commonly produced in Portugal in thelate 17th century, creating a style known as Estilo Nacional.The article aims to study Bufete in depth, by analysing their key-fectures, their origins and their use along the time. It’s also given attentionto the symbolic valorization that today and in recent past has been attributedto the Bufete, as a symbol of portuguese cultural unity in portuguese statecerimonies

Consciousness is variously defined and discussed in literature from different points of view such as biology, neuropsychology, etc. During last decade scientists discovered the human consciousness and proposed some models defining this phenomenon. Despite rapid advances in studies related to this area of brain research, there is no general mathematical equation which defines human consciousness in the whole brain scale. This research is devoted to study of the human consciousness as the result of human perception in order to develop some mathematical equations which are defined in macroscopic level of brain organization. The results of this research are useful not only for the fundamental understanding of human consciousness, but shall be very useful in the areas of brain research such as seizure prediction using brain signals.

Archaeological investigations conducted from 2005 to 2007 in Goodman Point Pueblo focused on ancient Pueblo culture in the Mesa Verde region on factors that stimulated migrations from the area at the end of thirteenth century A.D. This archaeological research 1 was conducted with cooperation between archaeologists and Native Americans, including descendants of ancient Pueblo people. This article briefl y summarizes three seasons of archaeological research at Goodman Point Pueblo and sketches the fi nal period of Pueblo settlement in the Mesa Verde region, a piece of the Pueblo past that has been pondered since the nineteenth century, when archaeological remains were fi rst studied in the area.

One of the main features when dealing with Hamiltonian problems is the conservation of the energy. In this paper we review, at an elemental level, the main facts concerning the family of low-rank Runge-Kutta methods named Hamiltonian Boundary Value Methods (HBVMs) for the efficient numerical integration of these problems. Using these methods one can obtain, an at least “practical”, conservation of the Hamiltonian.We also discuss the efficient implementation of HBVMs by means of two different procedures: the blended implementation of the methods and an iterative procedure based on a particular triangular splitting of the corresponding Butcher’s matrix.We analyze the computational cost of these two procedures that result to be an excellent alternative to a classical fixed-point iteration when the problem at hand is a stiff one. A few numerical tests confirm all the theoretical findings.
