Anesthetic management of preeclamptic patients remains a challenge. Although general anesthesia can be used safely in pre-eclamptic women, it is fraught with greater maternal morbidity and mortality. The added risks associated with general anesthesia include airway difficulties due to edema (often aggravated by tracheal intubation) and the pressure response to laryngoscope and intubation. However, several studies support the use of spinal anesthesia as first choice reasoning less post-operative morbidity and mortality. To compare maternal outcome among preeclamptic women after caesarian delivery under general and spinal anesthesia in Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Up to 85% of nurses have reported exposure to incivility in the workplace (Hunt & Marini, 2012). The often-subtle nature of incivility toward nurses in a minority population may partially explain why it remains a problem. Healthcare organizations realize the need for civility to counter the high turnover rate, staff shortages, and low job satisfaction reported by nurses, but lack understanding of how nurses of a minority population perceive incivility and bullying. This study aimed to answer the research question how do nurses with minority representation experience incivility and bullying versus empowerment in the workplace? A descriptive phenomenological design used a purposeful sample of minority registered nurses to explore how they experience these phenomena in the workplace. The participants were recruited through electronic communications with leaders of national healthcare and nursing organizations, minority nurses’ associations, and word of mouth via social media in the Uni...

Expanded roles and technology are being incorporated into the domain of nursing informatics. The effects of these roles are visible across all sectors of nursing. This paper explores the field of nursing informatics and presents the relevance to contemporary nursing. Nursing leaders in all areas including research, education and administration and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria have a big role to play in ensuring that nursing informatics is embraced by all nurses in Nigeria. The binary logistic regression result shows that contact with health extension agents had significant positive effect on the decision to use family planning methods at 1% significance level, while the education level of the women and annual gross income had a significantly positive effect, and house type had significant negative effect on the decision to use family planning methods at 5% significance level. However, attitudes on family planning methods and access to Non-Governmental Organizations’ support had significant positive effect on the decision to use family planning methods at 10% signi...

Did you know what it feels like living with and caring for a mentally ill family member? If you have, then this book offers you an opportunity to know similar others’ experiences. This is least expected for a disease like mental illness that is not contagious. The more one gives critical attention to details of care of the patient, the more one suffers stress and sometimes depression as a result of caring for the mentally ill patient. Introduction: Chronic pain is common in the elderly. Distraction is one of the important uses of cognitive-behavioral techniques and humor is one of the distraction techniques used in pain control. The aim of the present study was to determine the impact of humor therapy (HT) on quality and fear of pain in nursing homes. The sampling was of convenience type as well as random allocation of nursing homes to two groups; the one receiving HT (n = 28) and a control group (n = 27) living in two similar nursing homes. The experimental group received 6 sessions of humor therapy over 6 weeks and the control group received the routine care. To this end, pain quality and fear of pain were assessed at the first, after the 3rd and 6th sessions in both groups respectively using the McGill Pain Questionnaire and Fear of P...
