In this study, a simple and effective technique for characterizing Michaelis–Menten apparent kinetic parameters in packed-bed immobilized enzyme reactors is presented. The apparent kinetic parameters of immobilized glucose oxidase on weak base ion exchanger resin (Duolite A 568) were determined for different substrate flow rates in a recirculation system and compared with those for soluble glucose oxidase. It was observed that, for the experimental conditions, the immobilized enzyme K′m values in a packed-bed reactor were less than the soluble enzyme Km value and were flow dependent. The value of K′m decreased with increasing flow rate.

In this study, several samples of Cu-BTC, a member of the MOF adsorbent family, were synthesized following synthesis routes that represent some modifications of published recipes. The sample that gave stable adsorption capacity after several adsorption–desorption cycles was chosen for further study. The equilibrium and kinetic measurements of natural gas and bio gas components, CO2, CH4 and N2, were performed on this screened sample. Single component isotherm measurements of the aforementioned gases were conducted over a wide range of pressures and temperatures using a constant volume apparatus, designed to minimize the required amount of adsorbent. The phenomena of flow reduction and flow enhancement was observed in case of viscoelastic and viscoinelastic fluids flowing through packed beds, respectively. In this study, the pressure drop-flow rate behaviors for the flow of Newtonian (water), non-Newtonian viscoinelastic (Carboxy methyl cellulose solution in water, CMC) and viscoelastic (Polyacrylamide solution in water, PAA) fluids have been experimentally studied and pressure drop behavior compared with existing models for viscoinelastic and viscoelastic fluids. Based on the observed data, an appropriate empirical correlation for pressure drop prediction in case of non-Newtonian fluid flowing through packed bed has been proposed.
